lagged as we stepped onto the party button, gates come down, loose control of toon, get stuck on shadow fire and what do you know the intro screen never goes away. Just lovely. why not leave the gates up till the fire goes away or at least the intro screen....

No, you can.

You hit the Escape (Esc) key.

Same thing happened to me

A couple of days ago this happened to me, too. It didn't look like there was a way to exit the dialog, and I was dead before I realized I had to hit escape. It was a great way to start fighting Vanaduke.

:o

Maybe a nice little bit of text on the bottom-right part of the chat bubble that says: "[Esc] to Exit" would be useful?

It's not really immediately obvious that there's a way to exit the conversation.

I think the dialog should pop

I think the dialog should pop up and go away on its own (after 10 seconds or something), without requiring a mouse click or key press by the player. The player should still be able to control his/her knight while the dialog is on the screen.

i agree it should not take over control of your toon and you should be able to still move, and thanks for the escape key info...a bit late now but yeah just a great way to start off the fight lol

A quick question: How is esc

A quick question: How is esc NOT the number one key to press in a situation like this? To me, esc is the key to press to make stuff dissapear..

@Aragoth

Expecting the user to know exactly which key to press without providing any hints is not how you design a good user interface.

This thread demonstrates that some people react differently when faced with this particular sequence. In my case, first I tried to click around to get the text off of the screen, then I tried to use the keyboard to strafe off of the fire. By the time I hit the escape key, I was dead.

I'm not sure what the problem

I'm not sure what the problem some players are having. Is your knight running while the convo screen is up? I mean, I always wait until the gate drops to move again, to avoid hitting the fire, even before the new conversation.

@Demonicsothe

I'm not exactly sure how I ended up on the fire. I don't remember moving after standing on the party button. When I realized that the noob standing on the fire was me, I was pretty surprised.

@Demonicsothe Sometimes the

@Demonicsothe Sometimes the game will lag slightly when you step on the party button, resulting in your knight continuing to move until it runs into the shadow fire (which is now no longer protected by the gate) and starts dying. It's happened to me a few times, and it's really annoying.

The new NPC dialogue interface really does need a "dismiss" button, though. Plus Vana's dialogue is unique in that, unlike other dialogue, you can't dismiss it by clicking on the bottom response area, since there is no response.
