Operation Crimson Hammer!
The first Expansion Mission, Operation Crimson Hammer, has arrived!

Warmaster Seerus is the evil master of munitions within the gremlin's all-powerful Crimson Order. Thought to be the true mastermind behind the Roarmulus Twins and countless other gremlin weapons, he is the Crimson Order’s creator and supplier for their diabolical engines of war.

Recon Knights under the command of Lieutenant Feron recently discovered Seerus’s ‘Grand Arsenal,’ his development center and storage facility for all his weaponry. Now, Feron himself is leading several squads of knights directly into the Grand Arsenal, with the intention of weeding out Seerus and destroying his war machines.

Met with heavy resistance, Feron’s squads require reinforcements and Spiral HQ is sending you in to assist.

Hmm

So you have to pay with real money?
And you can't sell/trade the rewards?
I guess I won't be enjoying these expansion missions or their rewards....oh well.

Somebody post up some pics of the run and rewards
once you get a chance.

They can be traded via the Steam trading feature, so if you have Steam you would be able to trade for them off other players either with CE or games or whatever.

I really don't know what to say.
Free 5* stuff seems good, but it really just depends on the price. Tell me the pack us under $5 and it's a deal.

Seerus for president ^_^

Regarding the whole Warmaster Seerus thing, I'm very curious as to what he would look like in-game.

>shadowy Dark Retribution bomb!
Shadow bomb! Shadow bomb! Shadow bomb!

>Once you have access, select the Expansion Mission you wish to purchase from the Expansion Mission menu and select 'Purchase Expansion. Steam users will be taken to Steam and Web users to the Energy Depot to complete your purchase.
I already knew about this, but it is disappointing that the Free to Play players (such as myself) will not be able to get in on the action.

>Battlepods are now immune to all status ailments.
Bummer. It's a shame that I can't see those battlepods BURN anymore.

>Obtained as a bonus, craftable item, this gunner's mask
Did I just hear the word GUNNER? Well it's something new.

>Boost has been replaced by Kozma.
You killed Boost! Murder! Murder! MURDER!

I officially hate Kozma now.
Oh god here it comes.

EDIT: Also, if one person has purchased the mission, could that person then invite anyone they liked to their party?

Don't care, kind of

Don't care, kind of disappointed. I recently spent money to buy energy last month so that I could do whatever I want when I have time to play, and I can't afford nor do I want to spend even more this soon. Now I have CE that I'm not really using, and now that there is new content I still can't use it, I feel pretty dumb for having bought the CE now.

I guess all the interesting updates are going to be stuck behind a pay wall now though, so I guess that will be my last purchase, I don't really like having bought CE and it now being basically useless to me. :S

This update wouldn't bother

This update wouldn't bother me half as much if the reward items could be unbound and sold/traded. I don't mind people being able to sell these items for higher than most 5* items if it means everyone has access to them. Having new unique items that are only available to people who pay for the expansion seems unfair.

On the flip side, if they're just reskins of old weapons, I'll be disappointed that I purchased it... Eh, not much use speculating, I guess we'll all see soon enough.

Still now words if expansion

Still now words if expansion mission will be tradeable via SK clitent.

We will see in 40 minutes if devs really care for ALL cusotmers or they already sold their souls to the greed and Steam.

Also i wonder how good will those items be in LD, if they will be really good, it seems LD will become P2P playzone where F2P players will be entering at their own risk.

Long, long, long time ago

Long, long, long time ago I've posted about the fact that I don't like seeing Flash Bomb and Greenward available only for P2P. Community ignored my concerns. Well, I knew it will lead to more P2P exclusive weapons. You start with a Greenward and, before you noticed, there's Rocket Hammer.

On a bit more bright side - new gear for gunners is always welcomed. I'm looking forward to Mask of Seerus.

$4 and some change on Steam...

It's $4.34 with tax on Steam right now. 33% off of the $5.95 asking price!

Buy it, support the company that has let us all play free with little restriction on what we can do. This is my first purchase of anything Spiral Knights, it will most likely be followed up by an elevator pass. My $$$ cap is about $15 TOTAL. There are not too many games that are worth more than that, in my book (or steam account for that matter), but I have played 90 odd hours so far, and it's fun, so I will support them... a little.

Just how many levels are

Just how many levels are actually on offer for the pay to play missions? Based on previous level content additions I'm not all that sure if $5.95 would be quite worth it if we're only looking at something along the lines of 3 levels and a few items of equipment.

You know what makes a GREAT F2P game?

You know what makes a GREAT F2P game? The fact that you can unlock EVERY content of the game without having to pay real money.
How can OOO achieve this? make everything purchasable with CE.

Honestly, if OOO made every expansion mission, including each difficulty of the same mission, unlock-able with CE, lets say 500CE, not only will they keep their reputation, they will make more money too. People buy more CE to unlock missions, and this includes F2P, so P2P will be buying more CE than usual.

People should only pay in F2P to speed up their progress in the game, NOT to get OP weapons that are not available to others.

Alynn: Honestly, if OOO made every expansion mission, including each difficulty of the same mission, unlock-able with CE, lets say 500CE...
500 CE is less than the $5.95 price. (Consider: 1600 energy for $4.95.) Actually, it's less than a key to unlock those stupid lockboxes. If they're going to charge 1800 CE for Shadow Lairs, why do you think they'd sell missions for 500? :/ Even if you mean only 500 per tier, that's still only 1500 energy for all three. Get real.

For my two cents, I don't really care. The current (33% off) price is more than reasonable. $5.95 is stretching it a bit for me, but I'm not entirely certain how much there actually is to this, or how long the missions are. If they're a pretty good length, it could be a good price.

That sucks

@ Cobaltstartfire, now that sucks. I almost did the same thing. Maybe you can convince them, OOO, to trade the CE you bought for the expansion, at the proper rates, of course.

But seriously, how many games, that were not given to you as a gift, have you played, for free, that are this fun and charming? I'm a cheapskate, no question about that, but to drop $4 or $5 on a game that you play for hundreds of hours, or more, is pretty good! I have not played all the games out there, but why complain about an expansion fee for an otherwise free game? If everyone played for free, SK probably would not last, and certainly would not have expansions and new content.

You choose to buy it or not, but don't dog them for not giving it out for free.

Uuurgh, dammit. Okay. Breathe.

I hope the gifting-without-Steam thing works out soon, because the weapons rewards are game-changing. Pure ele sword and shadow damage bomb? God, FSC would be so easy with it, and with that bomb, bombers can now actually do damage to all monster type without the flinging/blinding effects of the Nitro--or at least I assume it's more like DBB than Nitro.

If anyone has videos of how the new weapons work, I'd love to see them.

This update is trash. This game is becoming more and more p2p every update. If the new weapons could in some way be transferred to f2p players, it wouldn't be so bad. Hopefully they can be unbound at least.
OOO just lost all my respect. It seems true that greediness eventually takes over. Unfortunately, OOO has fallen victim to this.
They are basically saying "Forget those F2P players, we want more money! How about we introduce exclusive content only to our slave p2pers? Yeah....best plan ever!"

Don't get me wrong, this game was brilliant. Graphics, music, features, social interaction. I love it all. It's just the lowly grabs at everyone's wallets that are annoying.

I don't know what to say.

I am disgusted at the turn this game is taking. The weapons we've cried out for are cash-upfront-or-bust. The new content, bosses, story, we've begged for is cash-upfront-or-bust. OOO/Sega is desperate, and they don't care if we know it. I would be less ticked if it were cheaper, but the asking price is ridiculous. Many other games would offer a TON of more DLC for that price (see: Dungeon Defenders). I'm starting to worry that we'll be charged to enter The Core/T4. This better not continue, but it will if we have people complaining about it, but still dishing out the money (see: Shadow Lairs).

I like this game. How else would it run? The way this expansion goes, it's kind of a drastic change, but it's no differentwith other MMOs, like Runescape, AQ, WoW, Minecraft, etc. Pay if you want an expansion (as for minecraft, someone has to buy the account in the first place). Drastic change from experience before, but it's for their income. We can't keep imagining that this game runs off air. It's OOO's money and they decide what to do with it, and that includes employee payment, game upgrades, or even potential new games. They're a business, not a charity. I agree with Coney that this type of change shouldn't keep going. It will become redundant. All games do that.
