Tier 3 and I: A rant

I've been accepted into tier 3 for almost 2 weeks now...and honestly, it's quite painful.

By no means do I have the best gear in the game*, but I'm not entirely unsuited for the content either!

Yet, when I get hit (don't tell me you can dodge everything, YOU try dodging crossfire from T3 Puppies with the 5-6 beam spread multiplied by 7 puppies when you're frozen and surrounded), it feels like my very soul was rammed head on by a truck...attached to an equally sizable truck...attached to a freight train...attached to...you get the point.

I'm not saying it's not fun (maybe I am), but it's considerably less fun than tier 2. Less fun, more pain, and not that much of a gain.

Gain as in crown/heat. It is less lucrative in terms of Heat when venturing down into the lower depths of tier 3 than tier 2. Crown gains? I have a hard time keeping track of that, but in my opinion, it's not worth it.

Gaining rare material? Maybe...MAYBE worth it, but not by much.

Scale down the damage! The top two tiers are great! I'm having a BLAST with this game! I love it!
Make it more forgiving! If I have the appropriate gear, I want to feel somewhat powerful, not shivering in my flaming boots (with the exception of graveyard levels, yeah, I scream when I get chased by 5+ phantoms with their Divine Avenger-fied Gran Fausts, LOVE IT, HURTS SO GOOD!). BIG SWORD GO BASH BASH. Or make it more lucrative! More rewarding! I like being rewarded for going through the depths of he--...clockworks and being able to come back in one piece.

Maybe I suck, I don't know, but right now for an average player, the lower depths are too painful to be worth venturing.

Blah, whatever. Point is, tier 3 isn't fun. Not for me anyway. Not by a long shot.

It's not just Puppies, Tumble! It's the whole tier and the damage scaling!

Touhou is quite addictive, btw. =]

Well... I sort of agree and

Well... I sort of agree and disagree.

It needs to be tweaked around a bit, because I find T3 either extremely hard and borderline impossible or extremely easy. I'm talking about doing an arena and getting 12 of those electric jelly things blowing up your 5* shield in half a second and then killing you in the next second. It seems almost impossible to do certain things like that, however other things like soloing up to the second last firestorm citadel stage is really easy. I think that they should tone down some things and possibly also work on certain mobs, but not all of T3 is super duper hard.

RE: StevenMagnet

I entirely agree with you, Steven!

However I'd like some consistency?

Soloing Firestorm Citadel isn't hard at all, maybe a little too easy (with the safety gates and the trojan friendly fire).

I like a fun challenge as much as the next player, but being torn to pieces within seconds by making one mistake...it's a little...harsh.

Some tweaks would be nice, totally agree.

To be honest, dodging

To be honest, dodging puppies' bullets is easy. I have more trouble with Kats than Gun Puppies.

My main problem with T3 is profit. T3 is pretty much the only point in the game that you can ever actually die at, even with amazing gear. But the loot, heat and crown wise, just doens't make up for difficulty. Arenas and danger zones are insanely hardcore and the only way to complete them is pretty much to get five star gear and some specific weapons. (usually, combos of haze bombs) Their loot is what, only ~20% better than T2 ones, which are much easier to do?

Not to say Quicksilver Arenas. Those aren't difficult, those are plain ridiculous. I tried one at depth 20 yesterday - Four waves with 12+ quicksilvers each in a relatively small room. (It was a Center Brambles) It took me about 8 T3 health pills (from quitting party members, myself and monster drops) to actually complete it without dying, and even so I was at about 10HP after I finished. (Had total of 36 health) There wasn't really any exciting loot - The heat meter didn't even get to the final stage.

But in particular, the problem isn't really T3 - It's just all those ridiculously faulty system the game is based on currently. I mean, if you want to profit, you have no choice but to run Royal Jelly Palace if you're a T2 player, or Firestorm Citadel if you're a T3 player. No other gates or levels can offer as much profit and heat as those, except for maybe doing tons of danger zones and arenas past terminals - But as I said, those are not viable options until you're pretty much at endgame and have all the correct armor and weaponry. And besides, there's no specific stratums that creates a lot of arenas or clockworks, it's completely random. Take a look at current gates; No stratum has more than two arenas. Some have none. The most arenas I have seen in a single stratum post release were about three. (Two in a single depth) And clockworks, aswell - It seems stratum-specific levels such as Jigsaw or Dark City end up being more common than actual clockworks.

But my main complaint is how ridiculous damage is on T3. You can easily lose 30 health in 4 seconds if you're careless - Being frozen by lumbers, stepping on ice-traps, (Spikebox Danger zone - The ice-traps in those zones can freeze you and potentially cause tons of damage, however they do not break freeze, and shields get easily broken by then - Meaning you're pretty much dead if you step on one and no one rescues you) getting grabbed by a zombie's lunge while facing the opposite direction, (impossible to hit the zombie and escape - forced to take damage) getting cornered by trojans, and etc. I don't think I even have to say more than that, it's already obvious how unbalanced those things are.

Another major complaint would be the way the status effect system works. There's no complete immunity, no matter how much resist you get, and even if you hit the maximum resist amount, it won't really give amazing protection, just decent/great. And considering status effects can refresh, (Being frozen, hit, freeze breaks BUT you're instantly frozen again, for example) shock and freeze can be really lethal on solo. If you find yourself surrounded by shock mobs, and get shocked, for example, it's instant death - Shock ticks remove the invulnerability time you have after getting hit, so you can essentially be hit again, shocked again, and the tick repeats.

To sum it up: Devs are still terrible at balancing! Those issues are all thread-worthy on suggestions, but I have no real incentive to post them myself - Ever since release, the devs have been mostly silent around the forums, and I don't think any of them has answered suggestions, and it doens't seem like suggestions are actually getting added.

Not to say that even in CB, when the devs would actually answer and there were way less threads, they did even answer in some of our threads - But nothing ever got done, balancing-wise. No matter how good the suggestions or ranting was.

You're missing the point..

We need an area that murders people, forces them to train harder, buy better equipment, and work together as a team. If you don't have that, what's the point? To grind? Sell a lot of digital goods and have a bigger energy count than the next guy?

This is a game based on exploration. I haven't been to Tier 3 much, but the only reason why I even bother working toward better *stuff* and training with my friends is so that we can dominate the game and see all of its secrets. And then help other people achieve that goal.

Besides, you get a few obvious rewards on Tier 3: access to buy better equipment, bragging rights, knowing you've run tier 3 for that gate.

I seem to recall a discussion

I seem to recall a discussion between one of the devs and a friend of his... it was along the lines of:

"He's kind of tough; there's almost no warning before his attacks."
"If he's visible, he's attacking."

hahahahahahah, resist!

pffffffftttttt, what resist?

I'd like immunity if I have maximum resistance against anything. That'd be nice. Yeah. I earned it.

I agree! We should get more

I agree! We should get more crowns and heat in tier 3 because it is so painfully difficult! For some reason, I make a lot more money and heat when playing tier 2 levels! What is that all about?! Isn't the rewards supposed to be more rewarding as you progress through difficult levels? This is insane!

It's a lot more fun that the boring Tier 2.
The rewards are crap though.

The game is meant to be hard

The game is meant to be hard at T3, but even so i feel that average enemy damage needs to be lowered by about one bar across the board and certain monsters need to be either weakened or made to spawn in lower numbers.
I can understand the design of each monster, i get why they have the abilities they have, and that they are beatable.
The problem is when too many spawn, it does become a touhou game.
This isn't meant to be that kind of game, and i don't understand why it should be.
But i also agree some levels are MUCH easier than others.
Trying a T3 fiend stratum is suicide, but a poison stratum is a walk in the park.

My View

Honestly T3 is not so hard, but after terminal its better having a person with you since its needed....

Crowns and Heat - T2 Jelly run gives more crowns and heat tbh...I got T3 status my 4th day playing or my 3rd day...regardless I did about 25+ t3 runs and about 50% of them were recipe runs just because yes I get good materials, but low heat...I rather farm Jelly King and level up my gear and once I am finished I will enjoy T3...

Have you attempted not to solo and go with a friend with T3 gear?

T3 is too hard for what it gives. Should probably give a lot more rewards for the difficulty.

I have a feeling

You would scream bloody murder in the T3 Aurora Low Garden.

Let's just say if you see an Energy gate on the way back from the Key, and you don't play Touhou, don't go into it.

It's... it's... *Shiver*

Imagine Gun puppies, flanked by heal bats. As for the exact number... well, leave it to your imagination.

Illyria

I hate that area. three rows of spiral gun puppies, 1 healer bat at the beginning, and 3 in the middle? *ow*

Gun Puppies

I try to take those Gun Puppies out with collected fire, curse and poison viles to lessen their numbers and run out of aggro range. Sometimes, I keep dragging back more viles and keep a pool of the viles ready. Viles and tossable items have a very long range--much, much longer range than any gun. Once the Gun Puppies are at manageable levels, I try to sneak around their blind side and take them out one by one. If I can't, I run out of aggro range and let them sleep, rinse and repeat strategy.

If you have a partner with you, one of you can distract and redirect fire from the person bashing them from behind.

Gun Puppies are not that hard.

The only thing I really

The only thing I really despise in T3 are Quicksilvers. I think the majority of my deaths in my entire experience with this game has come from them and Oilers. I'd rather Alt + F4 than do the Quicksilver danger room.

Honestly I'd wish they had

Honestly I'd wish they had more "fancy stuff" like Cidatel(with less bugs and exploits) it makes things fun my problem like many others is the only real reward is the possible rare materials you get from them.

I have no problems with it being hard, all though I kinda do feel that Equipment just doesn't scale as well you would think with those levels at least the defensive stuff.

Also >Divine Gran Faust Phantoms on T3 graveyard , that stuff is just not worth doing for a reaper rib or 2

Maybe the gate my guy and I

Maybe the gate my guy and I had gone into was strangely easy, or T3 scales down if you go in ungeared, but I think T3 is too easy so far.

I do not have clearance for T3 yet, but my guy just got it so we decided to check it out. It was terribly easy, I mean if I didn't change my behavior it would have been hard (generally speaking I just charge in swinging even if that isn't the best idea). So yeah I had to stop doing that in T3 and do a bit more shooting, and shielding. But we made it all the way down to the midtown without much trouble. he's only just barely in 4* and my only 4* is the caliber, and owlite shield., so it's not like we're especially set up to do well in there.

My main impression right now of T3, is that it is easier than T2 if you play careful, and it pays less than T1, so what is the point of even going into T3, frankly I'm disapointed so far. (Was excited when I saw everyone complaining it is difficult, only to learn it really isn't at all).

You haven't went to the fiends yet. Once you go there, you'll be doomed. The only tip I can give people is use the blocks as cover when those fiends throw stuff at you. The Kats, you just have to knock them back.

Well, yeah

but I'm not Ian McConville. If I were, I'd be 1. more successful, 2. a much better artist, and 3. married.

And then I'm sure I'd find SK to be a walk in the park.

Statistically speaking, I'd probably also refresh the 3PS page less. That might be a good thing.

.

I enjoy the difficulty of tier 3. Sorry that I didn't have much to add to the discussion, but I've found others who do as well, and just wanted that to be brought up.

Three reasons why I enjoy it:

1:It is hilarious listening in vent to "RUUUUUUN, OH SWEET JESUS *^#* RUN!".

2: The feeling of accomplishment that comes from tackling difficult things with friends is great.

3: It kind of goes with #1, but there is a TON to be said about wandering somewhere unexplored and actually being afraid of the monsters one encounters there!

my usual 'Oh my god I'm on fire' from tier 2 is sufficient.
