So here are some videos the new content, a Project Crimson Hammer run by the Gunslinger Priests alongside some training hall demonstrations of the new weapons. Remember to watch in HD in the expanded video players for the best quality!

Project Crimson Hammer
Storming the Walls
Silence the Guns
Flank the Frontlines
Clear the Gatehouse
Engines of War

Definately a really fun stratum overall, I must say that I'm extremely impressed by the way Three Rings implemented the story elements without it feeling at all at odds with the experience. I'll write more when I'm done uploading all the videos, but to summarize my thoughts briefly;
+Really like the story elements
+The presentation as a whole is excellent, the music is superb and I love the atmosphere throughout; particuarly during events like the escape and the stalkers showing up
+It feels like the perfect balance of straight up fights, "puzzle" battles and environmental hazards with a load of cool and unique events throughout. I'd certainly say it's far better put together than any of the existing boss stratums.
-The boss fight is a bit chaotic and I still don't quite grasp what it is that triggers the center Battlepod to lower its' guard; I presume it's a timer?
-Only pays around 6500cr per run, although I realize as an Expansion Mission it would be unfair to make it payout more than FSC.

Weapon Demo
Warmaster Rocket Hammer
Dark Retribution
Dark Retribution vs Royal Jelly

Just some basic demonstrations of them in the Advanced Training Hall. Both are excellent weapons, especially DR which I watched with glee as it ripped gremlins to shred in our second run of Crimson Hammer. Seriously DR may actually be overpowered, with max dmg each individual hit interupts certain enemies meaning you can chain them to death, it's fundamentally no less safe than Nitro/DBB chaining however it's much faster.

Anyhow if you've got any questions about them ask here.

Dammit was hoping I'd be able to fix the mark-up quickly before someone spotted that, but alas the forums lagged D:

Anyhow I've fixed the links. On another note I presume we need wiki screens?

@ Ironskullkid

The T1 rocket hammer appears to be functionally the same as the 5* version.

So the first part of Operation Crimson Hammer is up, I'll be uploading the rest tommorow considering the time. Apologies for any frame rate drops that occur, as you can see there's a lot on-screen, especially with Paweu spamming his fancy new bomb lol

Are. You. Kidding. Me.

...Really? Really OOO?

You know, I started wanting to write this post at the peak of rage, fuming with divine hatred and various vitriolic substances en masse. I really did.

In the time it has taken me to log in through Steam, I am significantly less irked. Not entirely. So props to Steam for that, I guess.

And I really would have been fine with this whole update if it weren't for the new gear.

Completely fine.

Perfectly fine.

But you had to do it, didn't you?

You had to divide, what is now arguably the best dps bomb in the game[Pure shadow damage, something bombs have been craving forever? AND it multi-hits, and is fast enough that one can potentially stun-lock everything?] and sword [Pure elemental, heavy sword... with maneuverability?], to a strictly paying crowd. Steam/otherwise trading does not a fractured community fix.

You have literally bit the bullet here, blew every other sword and bomb out of the water with these new things. They are simply too good. And thus lies the problem. These things are exclusively payed content. EXCLUSIVELY.

What the [heck]!?

FAKE EDIT: Just came up on my twitter feed. From Nick, OOO's kindly CEO. I'm sure you all know him well.

'Just got a new xbox with a Kinect and I don't know what to do with it!'
https://twitter.com/#!/NickPopovich/status/175057565519065088

On the day of a new, controversial release. Stay classy, OOO.

Daniel James (Cleaver) is OOO's CEO, not Nick. Cleaver is barely involved in Spiral Knights (if he is at all), though, so your point still stands.

Considering I just went in a

Considering I just went in a 3 man team through RJP directly after nabbing DR, and completed it in about 10-15 minutes including loading times, i would agree with you OP. Max CTR with my Demo armor is just monstrous. The king went down in about 45 seconds with on poison vial at the beginning.

And that was with me as the only bomber.

That hammer looks alarmingly

That hammer looks alarmingly overpowered. Double charge, high mobility on a heavy sword, PURE elemental? Why use any other elemental sword?
I'll have to actually try it out before any final conclusions, but at first glance my DA feels outclassed.

Why use any other elemental

Why use any other elemental sword?

Nowhere near as much crowd control, and it arguably takes a lot more skill to use because of the nature of the second hit and the charge like the Troika's requires decent aim. Essentially speaking I don't think it outclass the other elemental swords persay, it's "different" enough that there's reasons to still take a DA or Brandish line.

DR however is essentially a must-have for a bomber. Not that I'm complaining as a bomber-main, a crazy dps bomb is something I've been longing for, for a very long time. It's worth considering DR has no knockback so Nitro still has various utilities over it, and RSS remain relevant by being dps against Undead and Fiends. I dunno about DBB though, would depend a lot on how well DR can take on Beasts. Honestly after testing it, I'm more worried that DR will usurp dot bombs, since besides shadow resistant targets the aoe damage DR provides renders Ash essentially irrelevent. Although this is ultimately early speculation based on limited anedoctal experience, I still need more time to actuall test it out.

On another note part 2 of CH is on the way~

I basically see the DR as a

I basically see the DR as a haze bomb that does shadow dmg instead of inflicting status. It's slightly less effective then Agni, because the DPS doesn't follow the mob out of the bomb's radius, but we haven't had a real shadow DPS bomb, and I'm just glad it's a good one.

I'm seeing the hammer as troublesome to use though. The movement and targeting system makes it feel like I would be using a spur with a bigger movement boost or something. Though I guess that's the problem with all fast weapons in the end. I just keep feeling I'll be on spikes alot. Probably will stick with my GF or FoV.

And is it just me, or does anyone else see potential for the hammer to be bomb food in lockdown? Specifically the RSS?

DA vs Rocket Hammer: DA does

DA vs Rocket Hammer:
DA does 400-500 (or was it 500-600? don't remember now xD ) for 2 swings
RH does 200 (+100?) and 300? for 2 swings (possible small explosions, works best in a corner)
Generally, RH is superior when you fight zombies in FSC one after another, while DA is superior when you fight a crowd of zombies.

To get CTR VH on Rocket Hammer you might need to spend... 40-60k ce on rolling a single UV (rolled over 20k ce on normal server and didn't get a single CTR High+, ASI High+, only meds, rolled over 200 times on test server, had to roll over 160 times in a row to get ctr vh).

I loved the expansion myself, and guess what? I'm selling that mask you can craft from pieces of boss on auction now, current bid 65k crowns, go bid on it xD

By the way, about the hammer:

By the way, about the hammer: if used correctly, it can get you out of a tight spot. But it won't help you move faster, you rush roughly at the same speed as other people run. I rushed by the side of someone running straight and we went with more or less same speed.

Then again, you said that thing about damage bonuses and low lvl heat

I am going to say no, it is not overpowered on him I don't think. So that is out of the way :3

Just checking

Are those 5 stages the entire part of Crimson Hammer, or just the Tier 3 part? I'm just curious, so I can gauge whether I want the content or not. I'm leaning yes, but it would rock to have more info.

This is just the tier 3

This is just the tier 3 version, although from what I understand all three tiers have the same layout, just different tiers of enemy and more enemies as you move up the tiers. And of course different rewards.
