What is auto aiming/auto targetting? Does it only apply to guns?

Another example...
"Big" swords typically have a nice arc on their basic attacks, so sometimes I'll want to swing BETWEEN two enemies to hit them both. With autotarget going, my Knight will turn to face one or the other, typically leaving me open for attack from the one I'm not facing.
It shows up as a little reticule over the unit that is being targeted. It applies to sword and gun attacks and makes you face the mobs that is being targeted. This can be nice to ensure that your attacks land or very frustrating if you are getting stuck autoattacking a big enemy while a healer of some sort sits there spamming heals and your character can't figure out that he needs to be killed.
In the keybindings menu there is a keybind for autotargetting. Holding down that key (default shift) will turn off autotargetting for as long as it is held down. At the very bottom of the menu is an option to turn off autotargetting all together, and then the keybind will turn it on for as long as it is held instead of off.
