An Ally System

I know there have been a lot (and I do mean a lot) of ideas for people having pets in the game. A lot of them have been over posted by other suggestions and are way long back in the pages, so I thought Id bring out my idea behind it. I like the idea of having a pet, like a wolver or a lichen, but then another idea came to me. Why leave it at just that? Why only having monsters?

I have an idea for an ally system, where you can get more than just monsters to help, like another knight or a gremlin from Emberlight to join you. As you can see from the missions, we've already begun with rescuing knights, they've fought with us, and we summon mecha knights from vials, so why not add this as well? I haven't thought about whether you can just have one ally entirely, or many, but as you gain more of a team, they can be based at your guild, using a machine to keep track of them and power them up. There can also be another knight in the bazaar that sells ally armors, trinkets, accessories, and (depending on your ally) weapons. Like our equipment, each one has its own good and bad affects to the person.

In missions and arcade, you can use 5 energy to summon one of them and fight with you the rest of your entire run, but it will make it more difficult, just like when another person joins a party. They can hold extra items for you, like capsules and vials, and they can revive you when your down, but only once a level. You can program them to do certain things, like if they have a capsule, you can tell them to heal you or themselves when their health is low, or use the shout system they have to set them to go ahead and fight, or stay behind and defend you.

Like our equipment, our allies and their equipment can power up from the heat we collect, but they can only get it as long as they stay with you on the battlefield. Once they've become maxed from their heat, you can be able to use materials and CE to "morph" them into a more powerful version, like this small wolver transformation chart.

Wolver -> Wolver Tier 2 -> Wolver Tier 3 -> Alpha Wolver -> Alpha Wolver Tier 2 -> Alpha Wolver Tier 3

As they become more powerful, you'll have to either upgrade their equipment or buy a version that fits them. Unlike ours, their equipment cannot be bound to them, so you can sell and trade it. In the auction house, you can trade and sell tags (monsters) and contracts (gremlins and knights). You can even remove them from your inventory, but if they've spent a lot of time with you, and you've showed a lot of compassion towards them, they'll refuse to leave.

If you'd like to add more to this, or if you have any questions you want to add for me to add to the system, I'd be happy to hear them. If you want to just disagree with the idea, go ahead and say it. Every idea has a negative vote to it :P

I think

That the biggest problem with this idea, is that the current AI for "allied" NPCs is horribad.

Too true, but I'm sure over time, they will have it upgraded into a far better version

Some Spontenous Ideas I Thought Up Just Now

You know, if they try to revive you once per level, people would use that to save money.

They could be summoned for 10 to stay the entire time, and could participate in bosses. However, when they are defeated (Yes they should!), they should return for the rest of the dungeon. You are only allowed to equip a knight with one type of weapon. Make classes for your contracted knights so they are more diverse, and it promotes gaining more knights to help you too. You can only summon one of your knights so it would also promote choosing smart, and keeping you from flooding the place and overpowering one knight. They'd only get level 5 equipment and draw indirectly from your heat gains. That would mean you could keep gaining the full amount of heat for your stuff while they get about 30% of the total you and your party gets.

I think as far as item holding goes, they might waste them, and this would make dungeons less strategic. Which item do you choose? The Fire Vial to deal more damage? How about the Poison Vial to stop those annoying healers?

I like the gremlin thing though. They could heal you once per 30 seconds and could repair Mecha Knights you are using, or keep them from going spastic witih shock and hurting you. They could also support your Contracted Knights with buffs...

Lastly, there should only be two support characters allowed to be summoned by the party. What if you overpower the enemies? Possibly, they could lag the place out, or maybe it'd just be too easy...I like challenge! ^_^
