So, I've seen topics like this before, but they're all prior to the April updates. If I were to choose between the Valkyrie and Fallen set, assuming a Divine Avenger as a primary weapon, which should I pick?
Thanks!

Assume for the purposes of this thread that not only will I not buy better armors, I actually don't care that armors which aren't these sets exist!
Fallen seems to be the weaker set all around.
It has medium fire and poison resist on the helm, but only low rank in the same resistances on the armor. The armor also lacks normal defense (unless d0gr0ck somehow managed to upload an old picture of the stat block 2 days after posting the new stat block for the helm). The Fallen set does get a bonus to attack speed though, which may make a difference to you.
On the other hand, the only downside of the Valkyrie set, in my opinion, is the vulnerability to fire. The damage bonus against fiends will improve the value of your Divine Avenger somewhat.
Aesthetically I prefer the Valkyrie set, but I wouldn't wear it as my actual armor. I'm definitely gonna craft it as a costume set, though.
are you buying the set purely for looks?
assume for the purposes of my statement that you know about the costume slot, which allows you to wear the appearance of other armors over your existing armor
if you go with this set you're gimping yourself because they both specialize in the somewhat useless shadow resistance
valkyrie has normal defense also, but has a huge weakness to fire status effect, so you'll be murdered at the slightest touch of flame. interesting fact: did you know that the current "endgame" dungeon firestorm citadel is, as the name implies, ON FIRE?
fallen doesn't have any other defense EXCEPT shadow, meaning that pretty much everything except the undead will carve you up for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and nightcaps, but has small resistance to fire, which is okay I guess (also low attack speed bonus. whee.)
so, either way, we're looking at two armors that will get you killed
I would have to agree. Even though we have a gate right now which predominantly has shadow damage from its mid tier maps (undead, fiends, and kats), the shadow element is an under represented damage type. Normal on the other hand is done by everything except some attacks by retrodes, and most gun puppies. It's a bit ridiculous, because it means you're dead if you don't resist normal.
Alright, that normal defense thing was something I wasn't totally aware of!
(And yeah, I'm specifically choosing between two bad armors. I might use a set for looks over something else later, but at the moment it's because I've got a group who wants to tackle content with crappy stuff on)
So, Valkyrie it is.
If you wanted a crappy armor, going full Chaos and using a swiftstrike buckler with a winmillion would be your best bet.
But I've got the recipes for THESE!
It's very important to use the bad resources you have instead of investing in new bad resources at the drop of a dime.
I dunno, I think to be as cool as possible you have to seek out the absolute worst statistical gear available.
