I just hit all 4 star equipment about a minute before the servers went down, though it's not necessarily the greatest. Ashtail helm/armor, Dark Thorn Shield, and an Ascended Calibur. Think this would be enough to get me that 5* hammer and bomb, or should I wait until I at least have a few 5*s of my own first? Only reason I'm asking is because I don't want to be a burden on the rest of my party.
How hard is Tier 3 DLC?
If you had a really good team, you could probably do it, but it' going to be difficult. Me and a fully 5* friend tried to duo it, and we got overwhelmed by gremlins (though I think that was because it was our first time trying it and spawned too many gremlins at once) So I would say with a strong team you'd be ok, but without it would be very very difficult to pull it off.
Not "only". Thwackers and Bombers definitely still do partial Normal as well.
Still, elemental defense would be strongly recommended. Upgrade your armor to Vog Cub. Some of the enemies set you on fire too (Mortafires, the mechs in the penultimate depth), so that'd be doubly helpful.
This set is not enough. On tier 3, monsters deal only specific damage which is elemental in this case, and you got no elemental def.
There's also a lot of normal damage in the mission from what I saw. Normal/Element split sounds pretty ideal.
As for difficulty it's probably slightly easier than FSC. You still don't want to be going in if you've only just breached 4 star though, but at least you don't need to think about fire resistance quite so much and the boss strategy is thankfully easier than Vana even if the boss does manage to wipe out most of your health with one of his attacks.
You also need a gun. it's a pain to use respawning pots and hitting switchs with just swords.
Get elemental and fire defense (in other words, upgrade that armor you have to vog cub, vog cub will also help in FSC)
Fire dealers: Some of the mortars, some of the mini gremlins, rocket puppies, fire trail puppy things, fire themed mecha knights and lumber, fire dealing battlepods, gremling incinerators or whatever (the gremling dudes that make fire trails etc), and then (unconfirmed) the boss's hammer smash that causes the orange explosions (but I am not sure about this one, it def. looks like it).
Sorry for the terrible names, I am not sure what they all are >.> In other words, fire resistance helps as well as stun resistance. Thwackers can cause stun.
It's hard and you aren't ready for it.
Im full 5* and I died about 3 times solo on the Teir 2 one solo. Barely make it through T3 with a good group sometimes.
Its still very fun, but stay on the T2 one for a while until you are set for 5*
Ok let me clarify this for you your armor and such do not matter its how you use them 4* is enough if u know how to use it
@ Qror T3 damage is same as T2 its split special and normal
I did it solo with half elemental defense. It's not THAT hard, if you've done the Tier 1 and 2 versions you'll know what to expect. Take it slow, play it safe, attack when you see an opportunity, and don't let yourself get swarmed. You should be able to manage if you're good enough.
With the mission patch they made some gremlins do pure elemental attacks. Granted I don't know how skilled you are, but at freshly minted 4★, I'm going to say you'll take your fair share of hits. And with that set up, you're going to take quite a bit of damage with each hit. Fortunately, Basil in that mission has a very handy supply of recipes of ideal items for the stage, but Vog would be perfect enough, just get an owlite and silent nightblade. You may also want to invest in at least a Blackhawk. The gremlin bonus is nice and you can do a safe amount of damage while staying out of their range, kiting and disabling spawners. Now, I have (involuntarily) carried someone with a worse setup than you, but you want the rest of the party (preferably a party of 4) to be rather experienced and well-armed. Just let others charge head-first into a swarm of mobs. Oh, and buy some health pills, some remedies, and a vitapod from Basil to be safe before you start. From my experience not enough pills drop to be overly useful.
So hard that if you get kicked out of a group, you might as well NEVER do it again, cause its nearly IMPOSSIBLE!
seriously, that just happened to me earlier today, and im really mad! take my word on it or find and freaking recruit me!
Situational awareness is more important than gear. You could get by with your gear, although you do probably want at least one shadow sword.
@ the guy who said you need a blackhawk/sentenza - no. I solo'd it with skolver cap vog cub coat GOS rocket hammer GF acheron polaris. Using a gun against gremlins = doing it wrong.
My setup when I solo'd it was/is as follows:
Leviathan
Polaris
Vog Cub Cap
Skolver Coat
Grey Owlite Shield
Elite Slash Module x2
I have heavy normal defense and light/medium piercing/elemental/shadow defense, and I get by just fine. My sword damage is maximum, so I prefer a more offensive strategy and rely on not getting hit in the first place. The best defense is (usually) a good offense.
I.. wow. I have full Vog and an Acheron and I've solo'd this twice without issue. It's pretty difficult if you don't know what you're doing. Learn Gremlin attack patterns.
And yeah, guns against Gremlins is a terrible idea. They dodge. A lot. I definitely suggest the Brandish -> Nightblade -> Acheron line. If you can get a Gremlin UV that's even better!
@Lordnamechange: "Ok let me clarify this for you your armor and such do not matter its how you use them 4* is enough if u know how to use it
@ Qror T3 damage is same as T2 its split special and normal"
You are incorrect with the damage comment. Tier 3 does pure-type damage. Gremlin thwackers deal only elemental now, their only normal type attack being the hammer throw. Gremlin demos do pure elemental. Gremlin Knockers do pure elemental. The two new gremlins do pure normal. Gun puppies do pure elemental damage as well as rocket puppies and red rovers. The retrode, lumber, and mecha knight that appear all do purely elemental damage. The BOSS does pure shadow, pure elemental (at least I think he does... got slammed by his hammer once... ><), and pure normal (His blast network blast killed me with all that damage. ><).
Vog Cub + Acheron, Polaris, and Shivermist buster should get you through with very little trouble at all.
Gremlins dodge, but since the dodge change they're easy enough to track and keep shooting. Sentenza has three main uses in OCH - gunning down bombers when they've got a carpet around them, sniping menders within a mob, and potshotting Seerus as he dashes around. It's worth making if you were already considering getting one, probably not otherwise.
As for swords, I actually prefer Barbarous Thorn Blade to any of the shadow weapons for fighting gremlins - The wide swings are great for knocker swarms and the thrusts let you carry a bomber away from their bombs, single an enemy out from a pack, and bully ghostmanes into a corner. Acheron definitely has the better charge attack, though.
Status bombs are great to bring, very useful for making mortafires drop their equipment and breaking ghostmane cloaks. Shivermist Buster is the most useful of them, as it also prevents them from running after their gear or fleeing to recharge cloak.
This set is not enough. On tier 3, monsters deal only specific damage which is elemental in this case, and you got no elemental def.
