...so why isn't anybody concerned yet?

I'm talking about the Swarm.

Although many of us have yet to partake in the relentless gauntlet that is the shadow lairs, we've heard tales of (and perhaps seen videos of) the cruel, twisted monsters that inhabit them. But that's not what I'm talking about; I'm talking about the Swarm as a whole.

I've been led to believe that the Swarm isn't just a family of twisted monsters that inhabit shadow lairs. From what the mysterious entity in the sanctuary says to you, the Swarm is like a giant, sentient organism; it has "many eyes" and "many arms". Although the sanctuary acts as a reprieve from the shadowy depths, it makes sure to inform us that the Swarm is after us now.

So... why isn't anybody worried about this? A giant enigmatic being that inexplicably exists within the Clockworks wants us dead for escaping its clutches, and seeing as the locations within it are terribly malformed, we have no idea what will happen if it's suddenly able to escape whatever mysterious boundaries the sanctuary mentions and make its dandy ol' way up to Haven.

Just food for thought.

It's because the Swarm can't

It's because the Swarm can't afford to pay 1800CE to purchase a Haven key to enter the Haven Lair.

@Griseolar

I have no problem with shadow keys being so expensive in terms of CE (especially since it means an excursion cannot be taken lightly), but I still laughed pretty hard. Well played.

My main question is, is the Sanctuary Being the source of the Core's power, or the Swarm? Or both?

We don't exactly need to

We don't exactly need to worry about the swarm until the devs add new content relating to it more.

Even then, it is probably going to be contained in one mission where it never reaches haven, but you have to actually go after it yourself by hitting a start mission button.

Food for thought

@Iron; Oh dear lord, THAT

@Iron; Oh dear lord, THAT would be terrifying.

I think it would be interesting if the swarm dungeon starts in a Darkfire Vanaduke stage (level based on UFSC), moving to a corrupted Emberlight, goes through an Ice Queen then Red Twins stage, Corrupted Moorcroft, Rabid Snarbolax Stage, then the final level is a horribly corrupted Haven, forcing you to go through darkened and broken versions of the Arcade and Bazaar, with the Boss hanging out where the Square's fountain would be.

Everything would be Tier 3 Shadow Lair level in Difficulty of course, and each are would be a battlezone, Basically playing out like Operation Crimson Hammer in the way the dungeon flows. Each successive level would be darker and more fragmented, ultimately ending with Haven becoming like the Unknown Passage.

It works like a mission, only able to be accessed upon reaching The Core and speaking to Vaelyn after beating every Shadow Lair once. Vaelyn tells you that the Core team has lost contact with Haven and the Subtowns and requests your team to check it out, also showing the last message recieved- a Swarm corrupted image of Emberlight. Same as with the Shadow Lairs, Party lock upon forming, the differences being that the revive rate is reset and not Shadow key required, because hey, not only did you have to beat all 4 Shadow Lairs, you also need to go through around half of Tier 3 to even have a shot.

If and only if

this game had a better sense of story and actually delivering it, I would have some emotional ties to it. However, this game does not deliver, although the story concepts are pretty neat.

Now is not the time.

We are concerned, but right now we have more pressing issues to deal with. The skylark is down, some gremlins that want us dead, we have to maintain good relations with the strangers (so far our only ally on this forsaken planet,) and we have to eek out an existence until we can get off this rock and send in the reinforcements to conquer... erm, map it properly.

But, the swarm is a concern. I suspect it will become a problem once it starts to spread into the clockworks proper. We could send in squads to try to exterminate it now, but seeing as how our weapons seem to be ineffective against it's pure form (the turrets and the swarm seeds,) it's best to study it and develop weapons that are effective against it first.
