i dont really understand why this game is called "spiral knights"! Even journey to the center of the earth sounds better! Is it something to do with the fact that sega likes sprials?
WHY IS SPIRAL KNiGHTS NAMED SPIAL KNIGHTS?
1. There are lots of spiral drawn everywhere... the floor, the moon.
2. Just a name they like. Why are you Kreeara?
Actually, I've always been curious about this, myself. Why is the game called Spiral Knights? (Okay, the Knights part is obvious, but why the Spiral?)
I would love to get an official answer from one of the developers on this one.
Because they explore the Clockworks by spiraling their way down. That, and you can rapidly move your mouse in a circular manner around your knight to make them spiral on the spot.

I don't know but it really reminds of The Order (an organization of knights) which founded the Dark Angels (Space Marine Chapter) in Warhammer 40k. Part of The Order's training involved walking a large symbolic spiral. Also, the primary function of The Order was to protect the people from the beasts of Caliban (which were monstrous Chaos-spawn).
Another fun-fact that strengthens this relationship is that we were almost Space Marines instead of Knights in the early phases of development.
LOOK AT THIS IT MUST BE IMPORTANT SINCE I WAS HOLDING DOWN SHIFT WHILE I WAS TYPING THIS
Is there no way to quote on these forums? Gah. Little bit annoying. Anyway...
"Because they explore the Clockworks by spiraling their way down. That, and you can rapidly move your mouse in a circular manner around your knight to make them spiral on the spot.

^ Exactly my thoughts. The descent into the clockworks can be extremely roughly called a spiral. And the mouse thing is what my boyfriend joked as being the reason. =P
I always assumed it had something to do with the fact they're from another planet ...
spiral galaxy
Pay attention next time you choose to go up at an elevator.
Also, +1 to Derpules.
It was originally Project X AND it was named Spiral Knights BEFORE the Sega merge.. (when only 3 people worked on the game)
@Second poster
How the heck does the OP need to proofread?????
His words were almost entirely spelled correctly, and you can easily read it and understand his tone and the meaning of the message he is getting across.
It's actually called Spirak Knights, the 'L' was just a mistake that caught on.
Because of the imbaness of TENGEN TOPPA GURREN LAGANN.
keh heh heh
I approve.
I think this game could really do well with more spirals.
By which I mean drills.
By which I mean swords.
By which I mean spiralling drill swords.
Spiral Knights do not exist on this planet, we crashed here with the skywhatsitsface ship thing.
Just because there are spirals in THIS planet doesn't mean there were.......
MORE on our ORIGINAL planet!!!!!
I believe Spiral refers to Spiral Galaxies, in the sense that the Knights are obviously space-travelling Crusaders (read Space Marines) who got shipwrecked on a faraway planet and have no way to leave or call for help.
It's because we go downwards, into the clockworks. Spiral, downwards. Hurr hurr.
Also, drills spiral, which fit the underground theme.
PS - The last boss of the game is totally totally going to be something called the Anti-Spiral and we will fight him in drill vs drill combat.
PPS - Totally.
PPPS - BELIEVE IN THREE RINGS, WHO BELIEVES IN YOU.
GIGA DURILU BUREIKU through into the core.
S/he needs to proofread so s/he can avoid hilarious and unnecessary errors. Come on, is it not at all amusing that a post about SK's name misspells that name twice in four sentences?
"Needs" is hyperbole, of course. No one "needs" to do anything in particular on these forums.
The bottom of the elevators are spiraled... and the whole thing just kind of fits.
So you think Spiral Knights is called "Spial Knights" because Sega likes "sprials"?
I know this is is a forum post, not an essay, but geez, take a few seconds to proofread.
