This is my first forum post so if i do something wrong please bear with me.
Anyway to the idea.
A massive chainsaw.
Im not very good at names so here are some random possibilities.
2* - Buzzing Chainsaw
3*- Vicious Chainsaw
4* - Ripper
5* - Deadly Ripper
Normal Attack is a revving forward stab followed by a uppercut then a spin.
While charging your character revs up the chainsaw then increases attack power for a estimate of 5 seconds (something different).
Chainsaws could be a combination of Normal and Piercing (similar to the DA and GF build)
That is all.
Heavy Piercing Sword - Chainsaw
As you were writing that, i added more detail, and even if its not Gears of War, as it is Spiral Knights is a mashup of lots of games as it is.
Combo shouldn't be forward -> Spin -> Uppercut. I think it should be Foward -> Uppercut -> Spin.
A temporary attack buff? How long would it last? The programming for an attack buff is already in the game, so it's possible.
And yes, I think this needs a lil bit of help on the naming system. Something to get away from [Adjective] Chainsaw, [Adjective] Chainsaw every time.

I dont see how a chain saw deals piercing damage. Piercing damage implies it has the ability of quickly impaling an object or in simpler term stabbing right through them.
for example tank piercing bullets pierce through the armor with ease.
How else would you define sawing something?
It's a bunch of teeth rotating at an insane speed...seems like piercing to me.
~Sev
I didn't really think this through just a random idea because the only piercing swords are Flourishes/BTB.
And yeah i reckon your right ill add that on and rethink names. :P
definitions of piercing as a verb
1.
to penetrate into or run through (something), as a sharp, pointed dagger, object, or instrument does.
2.
to make a hole or opening in.
3.
to bore into or through; tunnel.
4.
to perforate.
5.
to make (a hole, opening, etc.) by or as by boring or perforating.
A chain saw rips and slices through, the only way i see a chain saw piercing is if you tried to jab it through something with out cutting it in half.
Just saying, a chainsaw will not cut anything in half because it would be really annoying to actually implement that and it would probably change the whole games rating xD
BECAUSE SMASHING SOMETHING WITH A MASSIVE METAL/ICED BLADE CAN FREEZE STUFF.
And jelly resists piercing, so our forks are useless.
Zombies exist.
Wearing a warm coat gives you sword powa.
A planetary system host to dozens of life forms can exist while holding a central core of energy of massive magnitudes and not release it thus incinerating the planet and all existing life forms on the planet while we venture down to open Pandora's box having no-idea whatsoever we may be getting ourselves into and may actually upset a delicate balance that was worked hard to achieve because we didn't listen to anyone and just KILLED EVERYTHING WE MET THAT COULDN'T SAY 'Hi' OR HELD A WEAPON OF SORTS.
Logic on the interwebs: That words EXISTS here!?
Definition 3 = Chainsaw.
@Psaro:
Random names I came up with, don't feel obligated to use them, I just thought I'd attempt to come up with something...
2*: Grooved Reciprocator
3*: Rend-O-Matic (lol)
4*: Serrated Ripper
5*: Scarifier
EDIT: @Psycho Not much else to say.
But you made my tomorrow, since it's past Midnight.
~Sev
@Severage I personally like the 4* and 5* names :O.
@Psycho I think you need a chill pill to take you down a notch O.o, but its true, if you wanted to you could grab a Flourish like sword and make it shadow if you wanted to (the computer doesn't have a mind of its own to stop you).
tell me how does a chain saw which does this

do definition #3 which is this

(if you try this and succeed and get it on tape I'll take everything back and call the nearest asylum to you)
@Scrolax Psychodestroyer has answered your question. 'Nuff said.
Chillax bro, Scrolax and I are friends, I'm not TRYING to offend him, only live up to my namesake.
Wasn't trying to insult, just stating what you said, this is starting to feel more like a full on conversation going off topic then the Chainsaw idea... :\
Where did you get the idea I was even offended?
I was actually referring to your post where you asked me to take a chill pill; an understandable reaction, considering the post it referred to.
So no worries.
Now get back on topic before I use my new hammer to bump you onto it >:D
I love chain saws but it would make more sense if they dealt normal damage since there pretty much good on any thing (especially lumber, it be fun to chop off there arms).
@psycho anything is possible in a video game, my friend once told me that when it comes to video game may all logic be damn. However we can only tolerate so much fantasy in a game.
@psaro how about double chainsaw like this one http://cache.kotaku.com/assets/images/9/2011/02/xlarge_madworldjack.jpg
That's a crappy chainsaw. That's like a handsaw. I'm talking, a chainsaw with 12" Needles on all ends, not some rubber belt on the outside.
How to get image #2 as result: Easy.
Step 1: Take Chainsaw and rev it up.
Step 2: Make sure chainsaw is well-oiled and has unrealistic spikes on all sides.
Step 3: Point the chainsaw directly at the tree, and walk forward...slowly.
You have now bored directly into the stomach of your average Mecha Knight.
You know, the front of the chainsaw can cut stuff.
EDIT: THAT chainsaw is much better!
~Sev
Just thought of a nice name for another chainsaw:
Jack's Lil Friend.
~Sev
I know it can but that is ineffective way to use considering that the chain and the blade in the saw are in motion.
Beside chainsaws are typically used from the sides
Great now i feel like getting a chain saw to how that would work, next stop home depot.
@Severage That could be some sorta Halloween special! xD
@Scrolax thanks for sharing your knowledge on the workings of a chainsaw but i think i like how i thought it up.
The Gremlin Stalkers already have a weird buzzsaw like hand weapon.
Maybe it can be adapted from that?
Or just go the good ol' Warhammer way and make CHAINBLADES.
Instead of a combo, i was specting just raise it forward and stay motionless while it chews the enemy.
If you're gonna swing it around and spin like a sword, then meh. It's not a chainsaw, just a fancy retextured brandish/avenger.
Yeah...but that's boring...
Especially since there wouldn't be any um...
Flavored...animations.
~Sev
Then it should be more like a sword with teeth than a massive chainsaw.

What the?
I've beaten Skyrim up and down, gotten many skills to 100, and completed probably most of the quests in the game...
But what on earth is that weapon? O_O
~Sev
Yes, this is Gears of War.
No, we are not Knights.
Yes, we use Chainsaws.
All that aside, this needs some more detail.
