THE RENT IS JUST TOO DAMN HIGH

If I hadn't seen all this before, I would assume it was an impossibility, or at least a singularity.
However it appears stupidity is infinitely more widespread than I have been led to believe.

I'm going explain some things to you people, which I hope you have the mental capacity to comprehend.

There is no problem with the economy.
The economy is not broken because of Energy, it's not broken because of a decline of players.
It's not broken, period.

What's happening is the same thing that happens with any game that has a content cap.
The price is rising because people are less willing to sell Energy.
People are holding onto it because they have nothing to spend it on and can hold out for higher prices for their Energy if they do want to.
It's that simple.

There's no reason for these people to spend their Energy once they reach the end, there's also no use for crowns except to buy more Energy from the exchange.
As a result, the people who buy it, can afford to buy it at a higher price, and do not have any need to put it back into the market.
This makes it less accessible to newer players.

They don't need to cap the market, they don't need to get rid of the exchange. They certainly don't need to give you any more Mist Energy.
All they need to do is make it more appealing to spend Energy and Crowns.
Currently, there are no incentives to spend your Energy. All Energy does is craft you gear and get you down elevators.
And if you're smart with what you buy, your Crowns can just be turned into excess Energy.

Back in the preview, Energy skyrocketed to 35,000 crowns per 100 CE.
Simply because people could afford to wait until it sold for that price.
Admittedly, the game was very different to how it is now, but the reason is the same.

Complaining about the current state of the market is nothing, because it will just continue to rise until content is added.
There's nothing OOO can do except add content and money sinks.
Doing anything else will damage the game infinitely more than slightly overpriced Energy ever will.
For those of you that don't know, the game is being made by seven people. That's the development team.
A whopping seven people.

So, if you can, keep that in mind.

The price of energy isn't a

The price of energy isn't a problem so much as you actually need energy to play. New players won't be able to play and acquire energy via crowns because eventually no one will sell to them. And 3500 CE does not go far (35 hours of gametime based on 100 CE/hour dungeoncrawling).

Yes, you do need Energy to play. Good work Sherlock. You are an investigative genius.
But how does a free player acquire that Energy?

By paying Crowns, you say? Well then logic would have it that the Crown cost of Crystal Energy would be an influential factor in how much a free player gets to play the game, depending on their Crown earnings.

So the price of Energy is a problem.

"And 3500 CE does not go far (35 hours of gametime based on 100 CE/hour dungeoncrawling)."

I bought $50 (20,000 CE) worth of Energy in the preview. It lasted me nearly 4 months.
I played just about every day.
It only lasted that long because I was smart about my Energy and Crowns.

I haven't seen the 35k ce prices

I haven't seen the 35k ce prices, but as of now it's considered low for anyone who buys ce.

Way to go with the explaining!

Oh God I'm laughing so hard.

You have literally been arguing with me in ~4 other threads, and I said exactly what the OP said, just in different words.

How is it you think I'm wrong, but he is right?

So you're essentially saying that every time I called you out on being an illiterate troll that takes things out of context just to be a nuisance, that I was right?

Bravo.

Kudos to the OP for saying what he did in such simple terms.

The problem with this is that

The problem with this is that I doubt OOO will add content quickly enough to keep energy costs down consistently. A %-based auction house fee would be a good way to start adding gold sinks since everyone needs to sell things.

Maybe some kind of guild level-up system would be a good way to have players sink crowns. In DFO, guild members could donate gold to level up the guild and get it more skills/privileges, etc.

As it stands now, guilds aren't good for much of anything other than communication and having a private meeting area.

Fees

A %-based auction house fee would be a good way to start adding gold sinks since everyone needs to sell things.
There is a 2% fee for selling crystal energy for crowns, which is a more substantial crown sink than it may seem at first glance, because crystal energy may be bought and resold several times by speculators before it is finally bought by someone for the purpose of spending it in-game.

I agree that an auction house fee (if there were an auction house) would help the economy stabilize in the long run and it's probably a good idea... but it will cause outrage. Minimal outrage, though, if trade channel is left in place for those that wish to handle things on a knight to knight basis.
