This is just a small fiction I decided to write 1) because Tev gifted the expansion to me and 2) I'm trying to get better at writing so I can make The Kradel even better. Now, if you don't have enough time to read Chapter One, heres a little blurb:
A distressed Vanguard leads a newbie squad who deems him untrustworthy, and dangerous to be around. But they must all make sacrifices, because when the siege camp is overrun, Iota Nine is the only squad capable of destroying the Grand Arsenal and putting a stop to Warmaster Seerus' plans.

OTHERS COMING SOON AS SOON AS I CAN SORT THIS OUT
As Frostrex walked into the gigantic red mission control room, he saw Knights running about, in all directions. He could see some Recons briefing the others on the mission. The commander looked up as he aproached. "Ahh.. Vanguard Frostrex?"
"Yes, commander," Frostrex saluted.
"Okay, well listen up. Lieutenant Feron has chosen you, specifically, to lead Special Squad Iota Nine into the Grand Arsenal and take down all defenses and bunkers. There are more details when you get to Feron, but right now, the question is whether you accept this mission. Do you?"
"Yes, commander."
The Vanguard quickly and purposefully strode from the lift. He saw Feron and Feron saw him.
"Sir." Another salute.
"At ease," Feron said, in his loud, gruff voice. He also saluted. When they were both finished with the military stuff, Frost said, "So, sir, what exactly is the main plan?"
"Your squad will move through the defenses, killing anything that dares to stand in your way. I don't know why anything would."
The tales of Frostrex's actions at the Chimera Plant, saving Vot somehow, at the Gates of Zos, for reasons he dare not say, and the Campaign against the Followers of Zos. Of course, alot of the legends were far-fetched. And they weren't good tales. They did not match what happened at all. He didn't really listen to what people said about him. Vot was the hero, he was just a deadly sword. But a little less ever since BlizzardHale and Furzor fell into blackness. At least, BlizzardHale did. Furzor turned black.
"You listening?" Ferons deep voice woke him from his reverie. "Uhh, yessir."
"I hope so. If you mess this up, I don't know what'll happen."
"Don't worry, sir. I'll be fine.
"Good. Now, when you encounter bunkers, and trust me, you will," Frostrex guessed he'd already been in, "I want you to destroy them. That is what your bomber is for. I need you to get to the artillery guns, and take them out. You got me?"
"Following, sir..."
"Then get further in, and hold a position here," he pointed to a map on the table.
"How did you get these?"
"Many good men, Vanguard, many good men..."
That was good to know. No, really.
"Yes, sir."
"Now, hold that position until the second strike squads get through. If you leave some Grems alive, it might take them a little longer. And try to clean up a little of the barbed wire."
"Copy, sir."
"Now, you ready to meet your squad? Fresh outta training," Feron had a gigantic grin on his face.
"Wut?" Frostrex just blinked.
"Who's our leader for this mission?"
"You mean killing fest, right?"
"What?"
"It's a killing fest. I don't think there'll be any strategy," said the squad's bomber, Soldier Rotrian.
"I'm pretty sure we're going bunker bustin', and destroying the artillery. That means, Rotrian, that the squad leader needs you," Knight Ram, second in command, told the eager bomber.
"I'll be sending you reports from behind the lines, anyway. Couldn't I just pick them off?" Recon Knight, Squire Jensen said.
"No, you can't," said Frostrex, Lieutenant Feron behind him.
"You've got to be kidding me... Frostrex? You're putting us under the command of Frostrex?", Zire, Squire Guardian, looked on with a dumbfounded look on his face.
Striker Soldier Reddich said, "So, isn't that a good thing? I've not heard anything bad..."
Mase, Soldier Comms Operator, shot Reddich a look. "I'll tell you later..."
Frostrex saw him, but didn't do a thing. He knew why they we're talking about him like that. He knew what he'd done. No, it wasn't his fault... "Back to the real world, Vanguard?" He should've stopped doing that. "Sir, I just came up with this, but why don't we hold the siege? Starve them out?", said Jen.
"You weren't the first. Unfortunately, we don't have enough Knights to properly hold this area. And I want to avenge those who fell..."
"Sir, may I brief my squad properly?"
"Yes, you may..."
Feron walked back to the planning table. "Look, I know some of you know what happened, but the past is the past. We need to focus on the present."
"What, so you can abandon us too? Leave us to die?", questioned Mase.
"You don't understand, it wasn't my choi-"
"That's what they all say!", shouted Zire. A few Knights looked their way, eyebrows raised. "Move along," Frostrex told them.
"Now, you don't think I spend every single minute, of every single day, of every single month, thinking about what I did? And, anyway, I didn't do it..."
"Just shut up, and lead." Zire was acting tough. Like a True Guardian.
"Just because you're in almost untouchable armour doesn't mean you're untouchable... Keep that in mind." Frostrex was very, very angry. "Guardians...", he shook his head.
Iota Nine walked quickly to the defenses, checking their gear. Frost drew his Leviathan Blade, the custom silver blade shining, and pulled his Ironmight Plate shield from his back, hauling the larger customized body in front of him. His team looked at him.
"Nervous already?", he asked them.
"Shut up...", Zire said angrily.
"Jeez..."
Iota Nine waited for Feron to give the signal... three, two... one... They ran in, with only Zire and Frostrex shields first.
Once they'd moved the jacks out of the way, the fought their way up to the first barricade, blocking the shots from the Gunpuppies and the flying hammers from the Gremlins. While this was going on, Frostrex watched everything his team was doing, checking if he could help them with their fighting styles. He blocked another hammer, and looked at Zire. He was staying at the front of the squad, stepping between them, blocking for Jen, then moving to Reddich, back to Jen.
"Zire, support Rotrian and Ram more, Jen's a Recon and Reddich, a Striker! They're harder to support and can defend themselves!
"Argh.. Copy, sir..."
Huh, Frost thought. He actually listened.
He turned to Jen as Zire rushed over to Rotrian and Ram bunkered down behind some sandbags. Jen was standing on the roof of one of the bunkers and sniping some Gremlins with her Blaster, while Reddich was taking out the Gremlins coming from within the bunker.
"Reddich, charge into the crowd and take out the ones with the launchers! Jen, use your recon abilities and get to a higher vantage point!"
He turned to Rotrian, who was tossing bombs into crowd. "She's supposed to be taking out the damn bunkers. What is she doing?
Rotrian!"
"What?"
"Take out those bunkers!"
"Copy!"
"Ram, with me. Zire, fortify this position, and support Mase!"
"Whatev-"
BOOOOOOOM!
"What the hell?!", Ram yelled, ears ringing.
"Sorry!" Rotrian.
"Warn us next time...", Mase told her.
"Okay, you got about three seconds to cover your ears."
BOOOOOOOM!
"Dear god," Ram said.
"That's all?", Frostrex asked. He didn't want anyone going deaf.
"Yessir. That is all."
"Good. We'll try and move further in. Mase, Zire, stay back and try to get rid of this wire and all the jacks, okay?"
"Copy, I guess," said Mase.
"Vanguard, I've set up a few bombs to get us into the guns facility," Rotrian told Frostrex, who was looking around a wall for some reason. "No need, I've got us another way, much more quiet," he said. They saw what he was looking up at. A vent. "Rotrian, pack up your bombs, you'll need them for later. We're going in."
"Ram, move up further," Jen complained. "You got your damn shield in my face."
"Well, sorry you can't afford a Defender like mine," he retorted.
"That's not what I was saying, and my Defender's fine," she added.
"Quit it, you two, you want to be heard and cornered in here?", Frost quietly yelled.
"I know I don't," Reddich complained.
"Everyone, just shut up... I'm trying to listen..."
Frost could here voices below him, "Seerus, sir, we've been pushed back by the Knights," a Gremlin said.
"How many?", the Warmaster boomed.
"Seven, sir..." It was as if he was expecting something bad.
"Are you serious?! Seven lousy Knights?! You're got kidding me!"
The Mender was almost blown to the ground from the shockwave of the massive Gremlin's voice.
"Sir, I've just been told we've located two Knights just outside the guns facility."
Oh no, Frostrex thought. Must be Zire and Mase... Think Frost, think!
"Good, try and take them in, and if you fail this, it will be your last assignment. Do you understand me?"
"Yessir, Graydi out." He walked off, barking commands at other Gremlins.
"Seerus out..." Too ominous. The image of the Warmaster looked as if it had spotted Frostrex. He shook the thought off. "Come on."
"This is ridiculous. We coulda blown our way in, but we go for cramped and claustrophobic?", Rotrian snapped.
"Don't question my method," Frost turned around. "Jen, I'll move to this side vent and Ram'll move to the one beside him,"
"And? Why do I need to know this?"
"Because your going ahead, and doing your job."
"Yay, finally," Jen jumped with joy. At least, she tried to.
"Idiot."
"Shut up."
Jen moved to the front and moved the vent out of the way, cloaking as she did so. "Better have my back..."
"I think I know why he put us with the crappy job," Zire told Mase.
"And-UGH-why's that?" Mase asked, carrying a bundle of barbed wire over to their fortification.
"Because we're the ones who hate him the most."
"Probably."
"Why don't we just sabotage the bunker?"
"Because that would be taking it too far and would probably end up killing the ones we actually don't want dead."
"Whatever..."
The bunker they were building was a repurposed Gremlin shelter that they'd cleared out a few minutes before and were now fortifying so the siege camp could be moved up and still be protected from Gremlin Thwackers and Gun Puppies.
"You done on your end?!" Zire shouted across to Mase.
"Yeah!" He said as he just finished off placing the barbed wire next to him.
"Guess we just wait?"
I'm looking forward to seeing how this pans out. Looking good so far!
