So I finally got my Sealed Sword, got it to level 5, now I'm just wondering to myself... Faust or Avenger?
Can you guys gimme the pros and cons of each?
For one, I already know that Avenger is really slow since it has the same attack speed as the Sealed Sword I think. After two attacks I needed to wait a second to be able to guard which is HUGE.
Is Faust much faster?
Also is the chance to curse yourself slim or at a decent chance?

Thanks!

Avenger or Faust

I am currently heating a Faust sword and my friend is working on Avenger. I can tell you the only difference between Faust and Avenger is the color and a few monsters its stronger against.

Avenger / Faust

Avenger has a good charge move. And its good vs undeads and such.

Faust is shadow and more of a swing weap, also it can inflict curse on your enemies.
It wont curse you if you dont charge it.

Atk speed wise theyre the same

Upgradeability

If you can afford it, the Divine Avenger is well regarded as the superior weapon between itself and the Gran Faust. Much easier to afford is getting both Avenger and Faust and using the one more suited to whatever strata you're currently running.

Avenger = Elemental = More Useful

I went the Avenger route because I wanted to do extra damage to Constructs, which is weak to elemental. Goodbye Gun Puppies and Retrodes! As a bonus, it also does extra damage to undead, but they don't bother me much.

When I checked to see what the Faust would be strong toward... Slime and Gremlins... I don't really have a problem taking them down with other weapons. On top of which, the Avenger is weak toward Beasts and Gremlins... again there are better weapons than a big slow sword for those types too.

Even so, I'll eventually make a Faust just so that I can go around cursing things. That looks like fun.

i have both and a magnus -

i have both and a magnus - this way everything is weak to me regardless of where i am or what im fighting. its working out great.
the speed isn't much of an issue because you'll be wearing vog cub (most likely anyway, as a sword user) which speeds it up quite a bit. also you can attack once, block, attack again, block...its actually probably faster attack speed doing it that way.

i just love having the bonus damage on everything i fight, plus the massive knockup. i also like the range on the swords. if things are you grouped up you can hit 3-4 wide and 2 deep, knocking em all back too...its great

Little late..

But I use both the Divine Avenger and the Gran Faust, and I use the Gran Faust a lot more. Tier 3? Not as much, but being able to curse and push large mobs while still doing lots of damage makes up for the fact that the Gran Faust isn't usable on a few mobs.

I won't run Jelly King with out the Gran Faust, and I won't run the later stages of Tier 3 without the Divine Avenger.

Good luck.

If you where to ask me

If you where to ask me personally I'd say without going into specifics that

Avenger < Faust
Divine Avenger > Gran Faust

All though honestly its all about WHAT you want to do with the sword.

And the Curse on self is only on the charge attack, not the swings.Excuse me if you already knew I just got the feeling you didn't.

lawl...

NOT.
You can curse mobs with Swings too, pretty often.
Got: Gran Faust + Divine Avenger = Best Combo in game.

I can also confirm that

I can also confirm that normal faust swings curse. I've done so on the jelly king's throng of cubelings. Self cursing is also only on charge attacking, and you can just switch to your secondary weapon if the faust gets cursed. Only one weapon can be cursed at a time, and subsequent curses override the current one. I got cursed half a dozen times over a run and on the few times the faust got cursed, I simply switched to my bombs and played crowd control.

Gremlins have never been a problem for me either, but they're annoying and sometimes painful. And since the most prevelent healer in the game is the gremlin version, it can heal at range, and later it can revive, I'd rather have the faust than the avenger. Undead and fiends aren't commonly an issue, and my kamarin ruined either quite nicely, so "normal damage plus cursing" isn't that big of a deal.

As for attack speed, the faust is significantly faster. Not on the second swing (though yes, it is a bit better), but primarily for the first swing. You can swing and block cancel very quickly, which makes dealing with gun puppies (and jelly king!) much safer and faster.
