The Core.
We all now by now that our main goal as Spiral Knights is to reach The Core and discover its mysteries. Is it really a prison for something else? Is Alpha Squad really inside? Will we finally leave once we manage to reach it?

All questions aside, what will happen after we reach The Core? Not exactly story-wise, but to the game in general. As an MMO, we know there simply cannot be an end to the game. There always has to be new content to keep the game moving and the motivate players to keep playing.

So my real question is what do you all think will happen after we're done with The Core? Where do you want the story/game go? Do you think there is a larger issue out there int eh world of Spiral Knights? Do you think we will ever leave Cradle, or do you think there's really more to Cradle than just discovering what's inside The Core? Please discuss! I'm interested in hearing what you all think!

My personal speculations and things I'd want to see:
I'd like to see us expand on the world of Cradle itself. There's more to the world than just the Clockworks. The whole outer shell of Cradle is a world within itself. There's mountains, forests and all other kind of biomes to explore outside of the Clockworks. I'd like to see what kind of wildlife, adventures and story the world outside of the Clockworks has (though it's hard to think that there's something more dire than what The Core contains).

A more far fetched idea is that we will eventually be able to create a mode of transportation between planets, or at least find a way to travel to Cradle's moon and discover the mystery of why it's perpetually crumbling.

Well [SPOILER ALERT] Alpha

Well

[SPOILER ALERT]
Alpha Squad is indeed in the core, alive or not. In the Artifact you get after The King of Ashes mission, it says a darkness was about to kill them, when the core opened and they went inside. I'm guessing the darkness referred was definitely the Swarm, and the core, radiating Mist Energy, must have some sort of defense against it. But the core was sealed for reasons unknown.

My guess: Core was sealed with the Swarm, or... Idk right now. Can't make a good guess with what's given. Prison to the Energy, or to Swarm? and by who? NEED MORE SHADOW LAIRZ.

[SPOILER ALERT]

Nothing will after we reach

Nothing will after we reach core (by reach i mean open core, gain acces, since we already almost reach core by descending to D29). The false conviction that we will some day open, reach, discover secret of core, i dont know where it comes from? The though that someday core will open is like a carrot on the stick that keeps players in playing this game with false hope someday something will happen with core

This is how its going down.

From what we have learned is that the Clockworks operate as the tumblers for massive safe that is the core. Prisons aren't always designed to keep bad things locked away but things too dangerous locked away. By sealing off the Core, it may have been a last ditch effort to prevent the Swarm from acquiring something potentially equivalent to a world ender. Also, if you listened to the conversations you've had with the other knights while you are on missions you will learned the crash may not have been an accident but a distress call from the Core. We were pulled down b/c the Swarm has become too dangerous and now threatens the Core itself. The Sanctuary speaks to us that the planet feels threatened that the Swarm will swallow all of the planet if it is not stopped. So our actual goal is to unlock the Core to gain the necessary power to stop the Swarm. To do so, we need to find the correct combination for clockwork levels to unlock that massive safe. We just gotta find it. What follows after depends on what we find in the core. My guess, we find some kind of god-like being who radiates energy from his being (as the opposite to that of the Swarm's demonic-like form). We end up fighting the source of the Swarm in some super battle where this being gives us practically auto revive (since he just is radiating pure energy) and win but of course the enemy has no truly true form and creeps away into the corners of the clockworks and we continue our never ending battle with it. This is all speculative of course.

Left =/= Added

That was left in the game files as opposed to being added.

Kind of like the old Valkyrie armors and Tortodrone.

Sigh...

There's a lot that can be done even after the core opens, Asuka, so the doomsaying I see in every single post of yours is grating on my nerves. Especially now with the mission system. Cut some slack, better to have awesome content later than crappy content now.

If the Core opens we still

If the Core opens we still have to deal with the Swarm and prevent that it infects the Core, also the Core could be a more intricated maze like the Clockworks, who says the Core is a straight path to the Entity?

As I always said, this game reminds me a lot of Phantasy Star (Online) saga, and if you played Phantasy Star 1 and I think PSO1, you know the concept of the Core may be similar to the basic story there. So expect more challenges in the Core, it isn't going to be an easy path at all into that facility even if it shines like holy. Expecting also in there "holy" damage that pierces all armors from security systems.

You know how cradle is built from patches of different worlds?

The planet will simply grow bigger and bigger while absorbing more worlds to proetct itself and make the gap between the core and haven bigger and bigger making for easy excuses to keep playing in a never ending game -Until it aquires enough mass to collapse itself and crush everything.

The End.

That's actually an interesting idea, and seems plausible for the most part. I'd love to see new worlds being added to Cradle.

Anyone else thinking what I'm thinking?

please please pleeaaaase let the future story/path to the Core involve the Arcade/Clockworks gates and not the missions system.

@Mejezfeld

I think the story will always be told through the Mission System, since it is the the best way OOO has right now to clearly portray a story. That's just how I see it, though.

It'd be nice, however, if the Arcade's levels changed in the future so there's no so much repetition bouncing between the Mission's levels and the Arcade's. Or maybe vise-versa, where the Mission's levels are more relative to the actual missions.

Regardless, what I'd really like to see are more natural environments in the future. Kind of like how to move from your crashed shuttle on the outer shell of Cradle down into the Clockworks. I'd like to see what more the outside world has to offer. It was nice seeing something less mechanical and static, but rather being a little more open and connected to something bigger than just tiny worlds cramped into small biospheres.

Opening the core will be a mistake.

Why?

Think Dead Space.

Or Halo (The Flood specifically)

@Psychodestroyer

That's exactly what I relate The Swarm to, is The Flood. They seem like practically the same concept, which could take Spiral Knights in a lot of different directions if OOO starts making them a more prominent enemy

read previous similar topic: theory of core

*warning SPOILERS on all the Shadow Lair modules*
http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/33444

there was a similar thread. some of the feedback was quite interesting.

I think i'll stick with theory = Core houses God or Godlike creature within who doubles as the power source for clockworks.

Boom.

I think the core would go boom if we found some thing in it that would set it off. destorying some part of the world, so our mission after that is to find a way off the planet. my final answer. "drop microphone and walk away." PEACE.

probably a whole new game?

well maybe after we get inside the core, its a whole new world, like more realistic, and less chibi like characters?, or the elevators were just short-cuts so that we wouldnt have to spend a lot of time trying to connect each elevator to another, but when we get inside the core, there is a core inside the core(coreception?) but the way to the core inside the core is not yet discovered so we would have to make a way, and when we get to the core we could also have different characters,mobs,npcs,accesories,,armors(like head,body,legs,boots,gloves.stuff like in RPG) but still keeping the great gameplay system or changing it a bit and more bosses and quests and pets not the ones that are just for showing off but pets that give you advantages in-game like a love puppy healing you, or a gun puppy giving you firing support (they could be floating around?) and some other types of mobs giving you all sorts of advantages, and probably even pets that boost def, atk, and stuff, and when in the core more places, like the market(for trading purposes specifically),pub(for in game quests instead of the mission hub) and an area to go to for pvp and a map! :D a map for different types of elements and mobs with each zone for a specific type of monsters(they can probably disregard this one) and a bigger haven or probably even upgrade it to a colony :D

IMO, they just wont release the core because of the obvious story-wise dead-end. If they do, they may do more stuff on the surface, they still have to do all of the Nine + Trinkzar (Except, of course, Seerus).

I like turtles.

Well with the way things are going, the core DLC will be about $19.95. What do you get? A core crest, a new recon module, and boxes with a chance to get previously rare accessories but will most likely end up being confetti and a UV ticket.

On a more seerus note, there have been countless amounts of threads discussing this and discussing the "story" behind Cradle. We have no real way of telling what is in there, so only time will tell.
