I'm not sure if this is meant to be here or in a different section.

I saw a topic in the Guild recruitment section and it got me curious. Which 5 Guilds do you see the most around the world of Spiral Knights?
This isn't about the best Guilds or the most famous ones. This just about the ones you have seen the most over say the last week.

Hm... since introduction of missions and Ready Room I mostly see One Knight Stand. I've seen Luna Dial once and probably some EOS here and there.

But that's mostly because I don't visit Haven often any more :-(

It is really strange, I see Dominance almost every day...

ok, in reality, I don't pay attention and I have friends in a few different guilds, so whatever guilds they are in are the ones I see most since I play with them. I always see a few of the "famous" guilds always hanging around the AH, never in the clockworks. And there are a few I always see in lockdown (gunning priests? or whatever their name is)

It depends on your time zone

If you play mostly during East Coast time, chances of seeing EU or SEA guilds are relatively less.

Similarly to Nordlead, I never really see any of the big guild names while diving into the Clockworks, only at the AH or in LD (note; I mainly run PuG). Makes me think they're pretty self-inclusive. Speaks of elitism and selfishness, though I doubt that's what they try to project.

As for what I see the most, I'm not too sure actually. I see a lot of tags.

I think it's more a product of reliability. If you could run with someone who's skill you know and can account for, wouldn't you want to do that rather than run with someone who's skill you have no knowledge of? As far as I can tell it's not really elitism, more just security in knowledge.

As to the OP, I see a lot of my own guild (of course) but I've seen a lot of Unity lately, for some reason.

Like I said, it speaks to, but doesn't necessarily mean anything.

As for security, I find that that sucks the fun out of it most of the time. You really want to run the thing the exact same way a zillion times over? I'd rather risk picking up a greenhorn and having him try his best to ruin everything. Least that's interesting.

I kinda agree with you there, it's quite fun to just run with a random group for stuff like RJP and whatnot, but when i'm doing FSC or something like that, I like to at least know the skills of other players. It's nice because it lets me experiment with new play styles without worrying that if I die, the whole party will wipe while trying to revive me. Not saying that that would be necessarily true, but without knowing, it would force me to play in a style I'm very comfortable and confident using. I've been experimenting with a gunner build lately and I've been having a lot of fun with it, even though I've been dying quite a bit, but I know i can rely on my guildies to back me up.

So I guess the security lets me try new things rather than making it less fun. Doing speed runs, and generally messing around is easier when you know that if I die stupidly they'll make fun of me, but then will be able to revive me. And I've found the most fun runs are when I talk a lot, and that's more fun with people I feel comfortable around.

Obviously Kage no Senshi first.

Beyond that, it varies dramatically. I know the game places you in Haven instances where you have friends, but I don't see large groups of Devilite Inc or Valkyrie Knights members very often. Probably because the friends in question are usually in FSC.

As a guess, the ones I see (or at least notice) most often besides my own guild are Knightmare, Jempire, and (for some reason) Stairs Club. This is only in the Haven Town Square, however, I notice no pattern whatsoever when adventuring. Probably for the reasons Guyinshinyarmor pointed out.

You know, this kinda speaks to a wider problem. That most people in a guild assume that everyone in public games suck, that running with them will always result in a failure, or in you having to carry the team. And if this mindset is pervasive enough, it becomes a self-fulfilling thing.

I can play in a chaotic manner in my public groups, and not worry about having to carry the team all the time, or even at all. Haven't had to worry about people not being able to get me up or murder everything either.

Mind you, you still find some dud runs where *everyone* is in subpar gear and ability, but those are rather rare. This could also be easily avoided by running with one friend/guildie and letting the other two slots fill up with randoms; that way ya got two points that have to fail in a group instead of one. It'd give guilds far more of a presence in the Clockworks at any rate, and perhaps promote random guild integration that doesn't have to be organized in a friend-of-a-friend way. Maybe break the self-inclusive illusion.

I get where you're coming from for sure. I mean, I didn't join a guild for a LONG time, i spent essentially all my time in PuG's or just soloing, because that was easier for me. This is my first MMO, so it took me a really long to kind of "get it." And by it I mean how to not be terrible.

As far as just doing random parties, part of the reason I don't is because I've had bad experiences with people begging, kicking me, etc. It's not necessarily that I expect random groups to be comprised of lower level players, I just don't want to have to deal with the associated stuff that goes with random groups. And I didn't know anyone in this game when I joined the guild I'm in, I wasn't even tier 3, I was struggling as a mid range tier 2 player, but they took me in and helped me out.

I certainly know I will never be carrying a team unless I happen to do a T1 random group run, and then only because it would take about 15 hits for me to die there. I have no illusions about being a highly skilled player. But at the end of the day, I'd rather run with people who I know won't beg from me, and will make jokes and be people I've built a rapport with, rather than new every time. Playing with friends, both IRL and people I've met online (because of my guild and because of just stuff I've done) is just more fun for me, and that's what keeps me playing.

In havens I see the most of Dominance (oddly the same as Nordlead) followed by guilds that include friends. (Its almost like they try to dump you into havens with people you know). I rarely venture into the clockworks, but in Lockdown I see Apathy and Impervious consistently. Also, Sir-Pulse (Grundel Warriors, sp?) who for some reason knows me by my radar signal and comes to shoot me for easy points.

Uhm, I'm in Guild and a veteran player and I typically run with PUGs, even for things like FSC. I do like a bit more of a challenge than running it with people who have a mechanical memory of the whole thing.

1) TAO - I'm in TAO and do a lot of FSC guild runs
2) Coup De Grace - I have several friends that are in Coup De Grace who I play with often
3) Impervious - I see them in LD a lot
4) Jempire - Same as above
5) Hunter x Hunter - I see them walking around Haven. Usually they are the ones shouting random trade offers.
