They're going to take this anti-toothpick armor and make it weaker? Gunners will NEVER have a good place in PVP at this rate.
PETITION vs Shadowsun Stetson Defense Change From Piercing to Shadow!
nobody in the right mind would chase someone with a gran faust or DA. rigadoon? rigadoon is bloody piercing, and is a toothpick, which currently the armor has defense for. ASI doesn't help much on guns especially 2 shot guns (callahan, alchemers). and you think if you change it to shadow, would it save you from a rocket hammer?
do you even play lockdown? more like, are you even a gunner?
your argument is pure invalid. i stopped caring when i read rigadoon, which is a piercing toothpick. that just proved that you didn't even read my post.
If someone complains that it will no longer be good against toothpicks - Remember, you don't need 2 trinkets for MAX damage. Use a health trinket, if you need to.
As I mentioned in the original balance thread,
The increased damage will let us free up a slot to to have a heart trinket to get max gun damage. Or you can settle w/ VH damage and have 2x pentas, which would work well too.
Having more health (even 1 penta) outweighs having the pierce defense. You're still better off. The shadow defense will be useful against sentenza and the odd GF.
While I would also prefer it to be pierce, it would be too similar to a skolver. I am okay with this change.
@ Stingz
The justifier isn't really a replacement for PVP since it won't let you stack damage. You can get ASI through UV's making the justifier completely useless.
they could have just kept it piercing and add the buffs. would have been better.
I like the change
I never use piercing armor in PVP and I dont have trouble with toothpicks
I think it's fine. Shadow armor is much more useful for PvE and fits the theme of the armor better. They don't have to base their decisions on the current Lockdown metagame, and if a future Shadow weapon becomes the dominant weapon in Lockdown, it'll just make it that much more powerful.
"A dashing hat for duelists who prefer to get their work done at midnight, rather than high noon."
"An evil duster that is said to harbor a great power that feeds off of the unforgiven sins of its owners."
Now tell me that doesn't sound like a shadow armour.
I'm a gunner and i've brought shadowsun to LD. You still get 3HKO'd by toothpicks in nameless and shadowsun alike. Honestly, GF is a bigger threat to a recon gunner. You get 2HKO'd by it and I'm glad for the shadow resist. You can equip a penta and take another hit from all sources.
Holy crap.. why would anyone complain about an upgrade. You die in 2-3 hits of a toothpick even with the pierce defense.
Honestly I rarely see any gunners besides myself using shadowsun in PvP anyway... this thread should be deleted.
The upgrade is fine as it is. Keeping piercing just for LD is a waste and it will be really good in PVE and fsc.
so -1.
Lockdown should be the last reason to have gear changed for everyone. I'd say the serious T3 lockdown players make up about 5-10% of the entire community (most likely less), and I'd say the majority of people are looking for something that they can take to FSC in their endgame.
The overall look and description of the set does make it seem like it would be a shadow defense set as well.
As a gunner, I would really mind it being pierce though, since it would essentially make it one of the best sets a gunner can bring to UIMF, and since deadshot already gives a bonus to half of the enemies that deal shadow damage anyway it wouldn't really hurt to have another pierce set other than justifier (which I'm not a fan of, even with the new changes). So I really wouldn't mind either way.
But for the reasoning you're giving, I'm going to have to say I don't support it.
The 6 extra hp you can get from a pendant is much more beneficial than having piercing def.
Bighondo: The 6 extra hp you can get from a pendant is much more beneficial than having piercing def.
Really????? the problem is thar skolvers players in ld have pendants too
then THe shadowsun will be useless versus a skolver set with piercing resist and 2 hearts pendants
THe set justificer has piercing resist too but not gun damage.
In other words with this buffer will be means the end of the gunners in LD.
And the super poblation of skolvers sets.
you should petition for Justifier to be that armour. (For instance, by swapping around the ASI and damage bonus on the two sets.)
PFfffffft, don't complain about a good thing.
Piercing defense sucks for gunners. The reason being that gunners use guns and thus keep a distance from their target, but there are only two piercing enemies with ranged attacks: polyps and lichens. The former can be dealt with using a Polaris and the latter is extremely predictable.
On the other hand, there are lots of deadly shadow ranged attacks. Devilite projectiles, Kat bullets, Howlitzers (bullets at first, then the kamikaze once their health gets reduced to zero), Greaver bullets, etc.
@Derpules
I'd rather keep ASI on Justifier as the set that is often combined with extremely slow Callahan.
@Metagenic
Not only Lichens and Polyps have piercing range attacks - actually almost all piercing attacks are mid/long ranged attacks:
- Jellies underground thorn attack is mid-range attack
- Toxigel spikes are long-range attack
- Salamander/Tundralisk/Virulisk/Electrolisk spits are long-range attack
- regular Chromalisks have mid-range attack
- teleporting Wolvers haven't got ranged attacks, but as they are able to teleport you can't keep them at distance all the time.
Actually only small lichens haven't got any sort of mid or long range attack and one can easily keep them at safe distance.
Don't take me wrong - I'm not saying that piercing defence is more crucial then shadow defence, or that I'm supporting this thread. I'm just saying that both defences have theirs uses :-D
Merethif you wont get hit by most of thoose except spikes / ground thorn
- Jellies' underground thorns don't count because they don't actually shoot at you
- ...Toxigels are lichens
- Status-themed Chromalisks' saliva does have range, but it's just an area denial attack and doesn't do anything to you unless you actually step on it
- Regular Chromalisks...yeah sure, but it has very little range
Not trying to shoot you down, just saying that against ranged attacks, shadow defense is disproportionately more useful than piercing.
The piercing defense aint gonna save you from a toothpick if it gets up close. Shadow makes it more viable for the clockworks

@Katta
Assume that an LD gunner wants max damage bonus. Right now gunners in LD need full shadowsun + 2 elite trueshots to get max damage bonus. This update will allow them to get max damage bonus with just full shadowsun + 1 elite trueshot. The other trinket slot, can thus be used for a health pendant.
Skolvers have 2 health pendants and piercing defense in both situations, the difference is that in the future one gunners will lack piercing defense but will have an extra 6 hp instead. I'm saying that this 6 hp will help them more than any amount of piercing defense can.
The end of gunners in LD? Far from it, I expect us to get stronger
They do not need to encumber the clockworks goers just because the toothpicks are overpowered. This game is originally meant for PvE.
It's called nerf the toothpicks.
This is going to go through, and I am going to make sure Shadowsun becomes shadow.
-1 to the OP.
If this change goes through, i may end up quitting the game, since there's no guarantee that i'm not just wasting my time, effort and money on working toward getting an advertised set and having it completely altered down the road.
Posted this elsewhere, but obviously relevant to topic:
"I must say, i feel like the victim of a bait-and-switch.
After spending months looking for a Max Poison UV Gunslinger and Hat , i was finally able to craft a Shadowsun Set that wasn't completely hampered by it's deficiencies.
It took me a while, but i finally had a set with pierce defense that i was very fond of. Now that's all out the window.
And i'm left without a pierce armor and forced to buy a different set.
Bait Advertising as defined by the Federal Trade Commision.
"Sec. 238.2 Initial offer.
(a) No statement or illustration should be used in any advertisement which creates a false impression of the grade, quality, make, value, currency of model, size, color, usability, or origin of the product offered, or which may otherwise misrepresent the product in such a manner that later, on disclosure of the true facts, the purchaser may be switched from the advertised product to another."
I paid upwards of 6000-7000 CE to find the Max UV's, buy the recipes, and craft the items to make and fix the item that they inititally advertised as part of the game and now OOO's decides to change the item and force me to spend more CE :( "
@Poetry
Your really trying to sue or pressure OOO with that statement. OOO can change any content they want in the game.( dunno if it's on the Statements and Agreements thing)
I understand that your mad about wasting your money on a game. But I don't think an item in a game is considered a product. And they did not actually advertised that item.
Another lawsuit?
Oh god what will OOO do
Besides, it wasn't a bait n switch. It isn't as if they are nerfing shadowsun. It's getting a buff, with the damage bonus.
But anways. By your logic, no game should ever have updates. I paid to play this game as is, not with more contents.
OOO Y U ADD CONTENT
Ahahahahahaha.
Sorry, I'm forcing myself not to cry from laughing so much at Poetry's post. Attempting to take a mediocre subsection of a law in regards to counterfeiting and apply it to false advertisement is not only stupid, but it's outright insulting to all parties involved.
Do keep us posted on how any lawsuit that develops from this turns out.
"Your really trying to sue or pressure OOO with that statement."
No i'm not.
But as a savvy consumer, i've used the FTC, BBB, CPD and Office of the Attorney General when i've had issues with companies that needed to be resolved. I'm not one to just let people take my money.
That said, no, i'm not going to "sue" OOOs...hehe. It would be way too complicated and frankly silly.
"But I don't think an item in a game is considered a product."
Not yet, but the internet is still in its infancy. Eventually, they'll be considered real products.
"Do keep us posted on how any lawsuit that develops from this turns out."
You don't have to take people to court to get results. You simply have to talk to the right people. Most people are content with taking a loss, not me, i'm persistent. When i feel slighted, i go all out.
No offense or anything, but if you are feeling slighted and is going all out over something on a game, it is ridiculous. SK isn't even a big or popular game.
But do keep us posted on what you are doing in order to change your gunner set back so your swords can enjoy the benefits of the pierce defence.
"No offense or anything, but if you are feeling slighted and is going all out over something on a game, it is ridiculous. SK isn't even a big or popular game."
I think you misread my post. I was responding to different people, the comments aren't meant to be read like a narrative, they're all self-contained. Read them one at a time.
My final statement was just to remind Ret that (in general) you don't have to go to court to get results. I don't intend on pursuing the matter. Like i said, it would be silly. I don't generally feel slighted when i consider something silly.
With regard to the change in the armor, i feel like i wasted a lot of time and effort, but it's not a real slight, as far as i'm concerned.
"But do keep us posted on what you are doing in order to change your gunner set back so your swords can enjoy the benefits of the pierce defence."
Probably go back to wearing my Grey Feather set in all situations like before.
But if it so happens that they change the way the Shadowsun Set works, i'll probably quit the game. I don't want to risk spending time and effort if the expectation is that sets can be altered without warning.
People already quit from the DLC, and now (potentially) this. Hopefully the designers are reading this.
Though in a business standpoint, hardcore gamers (for this game at least) generate less profit for them compared to casuals, so they might just go ahead with this because the hardcores are the minority, and more people want the change. People could quit and they wouldn't care that much. For a business, I do understand that the ends always justifies the means, no matter what way you put it.
Besides you two, I havn't seen anyone or heard of anyone who wants to quit over this. I've heard mostly happy things in haven when I pointed out in /z that gunner armours are getting buffs. I also mentioned the defence change.
This is honestly the first time I've seen anyone so serious about changes being made to a game. And I've played League. I know the nerfs and various stupid things they do for no apparent reason. There's the usual, you made this useless, or you made this op. But never have I seen someone saying they'll quit because a game dev changed something. Not because it was changed to something useless or too strong, but just because they changed something.
@ Demonicsothe
"Besides you two, I havn't seen anyone or heard of anyone who wants to quit over this."
"But never have I seen someone saying they'll quit because a game dev changed something. Not because it was changed to something useless or too strong, but just because they changed something."
Despite being a long-time gamer (not counting the long sabbatical i took after college), this is the first MMO i've ever played. If i'd known that these "questionable practices" were typical of MMO's, i never would have started playing.
Think of it this way. I'm seeing it with fresh eyes. I'm not used to putting up with, what i perceive to be "questionable business tactics or practices", but longtime MMO gamers must be so resigned to the fact that it always happens, that they seem content with letting it happen.
It's like the allegory of the cave. Most people here, i suppose, are just used to it.
Most people are indeed used to it. Change is what makes players come back. If it was the same thing over and over, it becomes tedious to play a game. And that is not the point of games.
Yes, this is what MMO's do. I'm sorry if this doesn't appeal to you, but it works. I wouldn't say resigned. You seem to hate change, which is perfectly fine. But don't label a majority of a gaming community to be mindless sheep, playing w/e the company wishes them to play. That irks me, the way you call MMO gamers to be somehow less than regular people who can think.
But again, if you wish to believe that you are somehow above everyone, with your method of thinking and your beliefs, feel free.
@Poetry
"Not yet, but the internet is still in its infancy. Eventually, they'll be considered real products. "
I dont think that they'll be consider real products since they aren't real.
"I'm not one to just let people take my money."
They didn't take your money, you gave it to them. What will you do if they close SK? Are you going to sue OOO?
And you should read the terms of services.
"You don't have to take people to court to get results. You simply have to talk to the right people. Most people are content with taking a loss, not me, i'm persistent. When i feel slighted, i go all out."
I feel as if you're greatly overstating the amount of influence you have in this situation. In fact, I feel like you're greatly exaggerating just how much you personally know about business law, or just the general applications of laws and your comprehension of FTC standards. On the note of you quitting, it sucks to see people leaving because of one particular thing being changed, but honestly if people leaving makes room for members who aren't so uptight about a single stat change, then I say it's probably for the better to begin with.
But to be back on topic - I personally feel as if this petition is founded on personal bias more than actual data and research on why Shadowsun should stay Piercing and not be converted into Shadow, and as such, I will not support a petition to have the changes reconsidered.
@ Demonicsothe
"You seem to hate change, which is perfectly fine."
I don't mind change. I'm always eager to see OOOs introduce new product lines. But what i don't like, is when they take a shortcut, and dress up an old product and pass it off as a new one. Especially if i've already purchased the old product for its inherent qualities and later on it's altered. When that happens, nothing is sacred. They can change anything. And since i wasn't aware of that, i'm now weary of acquiring any new items at all, since it might be that further down the line they'll change something else that i invested time and effort and currency to acquire.
"But don't label a majority of a gaming community to be mindless sheep, playing w/e the company wishes them to play. That irks me, the way you call MMO gamers to be somehow less than regular people who can think."
Again, i don't really know anything about the typical MMO gamer, not really; i know there are certain stereotypes, but from my experience with this game, they don't seem to be wholly accurate or even accurate at all.
I'm just commenting on what i'm seeing on the forum. Although i'm not putting it as harshly as you're implying or limiting it to just MMO Gamers or making an effort to permanently ascribe a certain quality on a group of people.
@ Retequizzle
I'm not taking any action against OOOs or attempting to assert any influence on the situation, simply commenting. I think you've misread my tone.
You made a snarky comment about my potentially going to court over this, and i simply stated, when i have an issue IRL, i use the resources that are available to me without having to resort to the trigger-happy legal button.
I was basically giving you advice, in case, for instance, you needed help in getting a refund from an online retailer or a cab company or an airline, since from the tone of your post...
"Ahahahahahaha."
...it seemed that you weren't aware that these resources are available to you and in my experience, a little influence can force a refund out of a deceitful company. Not that OOO's is deceitful, mind you.
And nowhere was i suggesting that i would attempt to pursue the matter against OOOs.
But because you either read my comment too quickly, or combined seperate thoughts into a single comment, you misinterpreted my statements. Maybe i should be a little more specific next time.
"On the note of you quitting, it sucks to see people leaving because of one particular thing being changed."
I just don't like the idea of buying a product if it's going to be changed later. When that happens, i can't trust that other items won't be altered as well.
Here's the thing Poetry. You say you have no intention of taking up any action against OOO. And yet, you say that you can. That can be taken as a threat to take action, whether you do or not. If you weren't going to do it, and was not going to pressure OOO into doing something, why not just state you are unhappy about the change, instead of going into all your qualifications to take an action?
"Here's the thing Poetry. You say you have no intention of taking up any action against OOO. And yet, you say that you can."
I never said that. I feel like i'm speaking in a foreign language.
I can't very well break down every post for you guys, but i basically said this:
When i have a problem in real life, instead of resorting to the courts (like a child would suggest), i use the resources available, those that are in place to help consumers, to help me. <<< But this comment wasn't directed at OOOs.
^ That comment was meant as advice to Retequizzle with regards to matters in real life.
I also said i thought the issue regarding the Shadowsun set was ultimately silly...hence not serious...hence, i wouldn't pursue any type of action or complaint against OOOs and never suggested i would.
I don't really think those consumer protection avenues are applicable in this setting. The waters are too murky here.
I am not saying that the damage bonuses buffer on shadonsun stetson it is wrong, this is a very good improvement, but what I want that the piercing defences keep in there, not shadow.
What do you think if the skolver sets it is buffered to shadow defence? do you like it? this would be good to??
NOTE: This is not any personal request, actualy I have Justificier hat and suit, I dont have the shadowsetsun, and also, I dont play PvP very much, I like Pve more than PvP, but, I see Whit this buffer a super population of sets skolvers in Lockdown like the only vial to win (more than aready has) I am thinking in the balance of the lockdown game.
Well good luck with that, but you did agree to an EULA which states taking consumer action against them forfeits your account.
"Well good luck with that, but you did agree to an EULA which states taking consumer action against them forfeits your account."
This finally made me laugh because i was reminded of how i would always get complimented on my reading comprehension skills when i was younger and i always shrugged it off like it wasn't a big deal.
Again...as i stated above, several times, i never said that.
A threat is a threat, doesn't matter how empty it is.
"A threat is a threat, doesn't matter how empty it is."
I never made a threat. I made a comment.
I have this gun here, it has bullets in it and in real life I use it to shoot people who don't give me what I want.
I'm not saying I'm going to use it or anything, it's just there.
Shoebox/Poetry, quit changing from Frostbreaker to Magic Hood to Argue with yourself.
"Slightly paraphrased version of what you said."
Let's face it, i'm pretty sure most people don't even bother to read previous comments (or read them properly) before posting. I can't be held accountable for what other people THINK i said.
What you think you said and what you actually wrote = Two different things.

Shadowsun still wont save you from a Gran Faust, Avenger, Rocket Hammer, or Rigadoon (Edit: 1/16 Stun).
Let it change to shadow already, give it more use in the Clockworks, and use Justifier for PvP.
