I have some retextures that I want to use, but I know that retextures are a form of modding, so will they get you banned? I just want to know before I get myself banned. Sorry if this is the wrong section to put this thread in, I know what goes where, but I wasn't sure about this, so I thought this would be the best place.
Can attempting to retexture something get you banned?
Well, technically yes and no.
Ask Ailment from Knightmare on this one. Talking about it I know can "ban" you, but doing it is beyond OOO control, technically.
Plus all it does is make you look prettier :P
Officially, yes. I advise against it, but if you do choose to do so anyway, just don't mention that you've done anything of the sort in open conversation. The same rule applies to sound files and basically anything under the Spiral Knights directory you may have on your computer - if you are found to have tampered with or edited game files, you can be hit with a temporary ban. I've never heard of someone getting permanently banned for texture swaps though.
Thanks, I probably wouldn't have told anyone anyways, but knowing that I won't retexture anything just to be on the safe side.
You can still use spiralspy to take pictures of it, but I wouldn't recommend doing it in game.
I believe that the mods posted the answer to this one a couple of months ago.
You may not mod the game. Period.
I assume that means that modding the game will get you banned.
I've always wondered why this is the case, however - Spiral knights is not all that competetive, and even then, there doesn't seem to be a way to change the models/textures of the game to give you any sort of advantage. TF2 has more ways to mod the game to your advantage, yet valve allow it.
Can an admin tell us why? :V
(also, don't say that you can use it to get acsessories for free, half of the enjoyment of buying that shiny item is showing it off, and you can't do that with mods)
As for the reason, I believe they said it has something to do with
- Ensuring the quality of their product (including perceptions like what others see when they look at youtube videos, etc.)
- Not bogging down tech support trying to troubleshoot third party apps
- Ensuring the security of their code
And there are probably plenty of other reasons too. I'm too lazy to look up the original mod post, but it's somewhere on the forums. Basically, modding would open a can of worms that OOO/Sega does not want to deal with. And it's their code, so we should respect that.
Wow. Thats kind of harsh... I was even thinking about making a couple of retextures to submit to the suggestions forums, but I'd rather not get a temp ban for "modifying game files"... I suppose I wouldn't ever have to use the retextures, but I'd rather not risk it either.
Yes, sadly.
So don't do it.
Though I'd be curious to see them c:
