Has anyone noticed that Feron is somewhat unnaturally very big/tall for his size? He's kinda like a giant.
Feron is really tall?
I've heard rumors that his parents put steroids in his food when he was little...
I want my knight to be smaller than it is now :3
All small and adorable
Barrus is actually short for a knight, just his badass-ness makes him appear much taller than he is.
I think a Height change would be interesting, game play wise.../
The larger you are, the slower your movement and attack speed, but with higher defense, with the converse being true for smaller knights.
Naturally there would be a limit, else we would be seeing parties of Vanadukes and Gremlin Knocker equivalents running around.
Or it could all be cosmetic, too.
@Dukeplatypus
I believe you are wrong
But he also looks a bit fatter/chunk than before
Nah, its just the impression he puts off that physically changes his size on your screen. That or he wears stilts and pads his armorial.
I'm curious as to why this is the case. The only people who have larger-than-normal statures are knights with the title Lieutenant. That implies that the armor sets for Spiral Order officers are larger than those for regular knights, almost more of small mecha than powered armor. But this bothers me because I've looked at how big they are and I've realized they're too big for a knight to get his arms and legs comfortably in the arms and legs of the suit, yet too small for the knight to fit in the torso (as many other suits have a space for the pilot there). This means either the "real" knights are much smaller than even the regular knight armor (which violates several rules of evolutionary biology), or ...
This is where I say "You're over-thinking it, Amaki, it's just a stylistic choice to make the important NPCs more noticeable." Still bothers me, though.
Obviously he's wearing out-of date armour that's bigger and bulkier, compounded with the fact that he's taller than average to begin with. He's a bit of a Luddite and resistant to tech changes, and insists his old suit is good enough.
And it is, for the most part. Until a bunch of ninjas shank him, anyway.
Height/Size slidebars, within reason, would actually give a whole new level of customization to this game that could be pretty neat... it shouldn't have any impact on gameplay, though.
If Feron is Hagrid, then Ozlo must be Dumbledor, and if Ozlo is Dubledor then all the players must be Harry's. And if were all Harry, King Tinkinzar must be Voldemort. And if King Tinkinzar is Voldermort were all effed, he probably threw the Horcruxes into the core.
Someone said that Feron and some other NPCs sort of remind them of WoW and they think there's some inspiration drawn from it.
Incidentally WoW will make a few important NPCs larger than life. I remember seeing this chick, Jaina, and she was much huger than my character. Maybe they're following that trend.
Well thinking that Feron wears the Beginner Helm just buffed with accessory, could also say that he's maybe much older than the other Knights.
Which leads us to another mystery... if Knights can grow, that means the HQ are the seniors and we are the younger generation and if this is true, where do baby Knights come from and how are they made o.o
I mean if we are all Robots, that would explain, but what if we are biological robot creature that can reproduce
Okay, maybe they're crafting Babies and they need the energy and mats from 2 specific Knights.
Plutogold, I'm utterly amazed I didn't think of that myself. What's saying that the knights' species stops growing after reaching what would be considered adulthood?
Oh, look, you've got me doing it again. XP
Our armors are'nt protecting us...their CONTAINING us!
That is why we can never take them off!!! we are insubstantial as the air, so we need something to hold us in a shape! :3
So technically, if we did take off our armor, we would dissolve into air, and pretty much be lost forever =0
I wouldn't like it either if everyone were of the same height. :P
Under the assumption that us Spiral Knights are a living organic mass of some sort, I would somewhat agree with Mysticbeam and Plutogold's view of approach that we are possibly cyborgs, or that our armor is simply housing whatever is underneath it. (That's us. Lol.)
I'm also taking in the ideas that Feron and the like are probably wearing older armor that was created by some of the very first that landed. And since they're more accustomed to that armor, they prefer it over the newer armor that we sport today.
Putting a couple different opinions together can create extremely logical explanations for these things, I love it! :D
All in all, it's obvious they're simply oversized because they're NPC's and were made to be idolized by Users who couldn't normally get to appear to be that large.
But story-wise, the possibilities are endless. :)
We are part of the swarm itself, sent to scan the ever changing world of cradle. However, the gremlins saw the ship performing a scan, and dragged it down, hoping to do what gremlins to with technology.
Upon the crash, we all got explosive amnesia! We began to fight the swarm, and the swarm retreated. However, as the swarm did so, we were unable to maintain ourselves without the swarm seed. And the strangers designed the first armor created with crystal energy. This allowed us to thrive in haven, as well as make us faster and stronger than the swarm ever could.
Why would such a species evolve to use tools, wear armor, and fly spaceships to crash on alien worlds? Being intelligent isn't enough, there's some other major qualifications to qualify as an advanced species.
*paid too much attention in Anthropology 100*
It's a fantasy video game, 'nuf said. :D
Edit: But lol no really, c'mon now. From a logical point, trying to put that kind of logic in the game, is like asking, "How is a troll a troll and called a troll and not a human?" I mean, sure, there's obvious reasons pointing to why, but check it, Trolls don't even exist, but they're probably the more socially accepted possibility of a species. It's all fantasy in the end, so why not fantasize the details too?
Honestly, what's wrong with looking at the science behind something? I disagree that it kills the imagination, I think it inspires it.
Hahaha yeah I see your point and where you're coming from but that's just it for me haha.
I think i'll have to agree to disagree with your POV, but I understand and respect your view. :D

Damienfoxy, you gave me a possiblity about the actual end-game of SK (but this game can't end lol)
If the story is like this, then when the knights find out they are part of the swarm, the swarm tries to bring them back and make them destroy cradle, then after a long think the knights decide not to, then some sort of boss fight. :P
Already beaten to it, but I assume the reason some of the important NPCs we talk to are larger than normal is to allow them to be easily spottable in a crowd. When the mission system first rolled out, for example, there was nothing but a sea of knights talking to Feron. Making him taller than the average knight allows to stick out from the crowd, allowing ease of access to talk to him.
This is what is seen in WoW as well, where bosses, important faction leaders/lore characters (who are killable in huge raids), and certain quest givers are scaled larger than the average player. When you're in a large raid or it's the first day of an expansion pack, being able to see quest givers and killable enemies in a large party is just makes things easier. This way you're not spamming the tab button, which cycles through targets, or spam clicking the mouse to attempt to interact with NPCs.
Perhaps Feron and the other Lieutenants were part of a Vanguard/Scout group that first discovered Cradle? They're probably (like said before) using older technology, or general-purpose armor that wasn't designed with the world of Cradle in mind (Perhaps the gravity is higher, and more compact armor functions better).
Also, the fact that they [The Lieutenants] may have been one of the first Knights on Cradle accounts for their high rank in the Order - they have more knowledge of Cradle and experience in battle than most newer Knights, most likely.
They obviously believe in the old "Trust in Rust" adage, and would rather use outdated, trusted armor more than the new fancy-pants models.
Also, first post. Woo!
I wish height adjustment was an option for PCs as well. But then I guess we'd just see a field of giants or something..
It'd still be cool, though.
