I've got pretty much every gun I need, my 5*s are:

Polaris
Blitz Needle
Storm Driver
AP
Sentenza

So I'm wondering if I should even bother getting a Callahan. I'd much rather demolish a group of devilites or wolvers with my Final Flourish. If someone can convince me why a Callahan is worthwhile then I'll definitely get one.

I'm mainly gun just for PvP with this set up:

Nameless Hat
Justifier Jacket
2x Pentax Heart
Storm Driver
Sentenza
Polaris

Yes...

You can deal with devilites with an FF, and most likely experience pain while doing so... or you can easily take care of them with a callahan. Once you get a rhythm of move-shoot-move, the Callahan is probably the safest way of dealing with devilites.

I dont see any point in getting it. FF hits faster and harder and still allowing you to be mobile in the process

I have played with callahan quite a lot and unless you absolutely refuse to use piercing swords you could use it, else it's just stupid

I've always gotten by with my Blitz and FF or BTB. I picked up a Callahan and I use it occasionally, but ehhhh. It's pretty underwhelming compared to the Blitz and swords (and even if you like it, Blitz and sword is fully workable pierce damage so why invest in something else?) and I don't recommended it if you have other things to spend money on.

Callahan is also a very tankish weapon, used to deal with enemies very slowly while playing defensively. If you're looking to demolish enemies quickly, don't look at Callahan.

Yeah Rawrcake's argued the glory of Callahan in Lockdown to me. I'm strictly PvE so nothing I say applies to PvP.

What...

What... I'm sorry, but the Callahan does not render you as immobile as much as you would think. If you are going two shot, reload, then move... well that is just stupidity on your part.

Moving while shooting a Callahan inhibits your mobility just as much as swinging a sword would. It isn't that bad. FF forces you to move in close, which reduces the amount of time you have to see and react to a Devilite about to attack. Callahan also has a very high chance of hitting fiends (causing them to flinch). When you approach with a sword, they have a habit of either dodging around (Overtimers do this a lot) or leaping backwards to safety. Because the Callahan is both fast and causes enemies to flinch, Devilites do not dodge or flee from it.

Admittedly it doesn't do that much damage (About 75% of the FF's damage per swing), but it is a far safer option than trying to get close. The Callahan takes patience, but rewards said patience with HEALTH. I would rather take an additional 20 seconds per room if it means I walk out with 90% of my health instead of half a pip (or worse, have to CE rev).

If you're a completionist

If you're a completionist anyway, might as well get it and try it out for yourself. I would recommend waiting a bit, though, to see what happens with the upcoming weapon rebalance. Don't remember if the callahan was included on that list, but I know the iron slug was.

Well for PvE we don't have a

Well for PvE we don't have a mobility-while-firing piercing gun. Blitz needle is more powerful, and will aggrivate dodgers more, but it is not as safe to use.

A Callahan is the closest we can get towards mobility for now... so it is the "best piercing gun for survivability"

If you are not rich, I suggest getting a Blitz if you are in groups mostly, and then a Callahan if you solo for the majority of the game. A blitz needle is viable anywhere a Callahan is, just more powerful and much less safe.

Callahan can shine on Vanaduke if you learn how to deal with bad stun and avoid it / even use it to your advantage. It is not built as a DPS weapon, not even at all due to its mechanics, but because of the AP being pure elemental now, Vana kills seem to be going faster with a Callahan (but this is not proven and you should not take my word for it because I am not using hard numbers).

A Callahan's bullet mechanics are desirable for popping dodgers, however. For a dodger, one nice fast bullet will not aggrivate them and make them all dodgey, heck even sometimes not cause them to dodge. One nice hard hitting bullet is sort of what you would desire on a lower-healther dodger (like a Devilite).

I love the Callahan even in parties due to it not aggrivating dodgers (as well as not aggrivating party members :3) and use my Blitz for Battlepods, Trojans, and Vana. The main benefit is survivability. Also because you can hold shift and have auto target on and derp spam bullets while shooting and pausing and eventually everything just drops as you kite in a circle it is hilarious xD Cally is my favorite. Just simply fun to use.

As for Devilites, the we do not have a mobility while firing piercing gun. I suggest (I have stressed this in other threads) to use your alchemer and Polaris against big packs of devilites, especially overtimers. And for the alchemer, especially Hail Driver. Split bullets have this hidden power, and when a devilite dodgers into your alchemer, it can clip two of them.

The key thing to remember is not to shoot straight at a devilite. Get it to dodge into the bullets of your Polaris / alchemer. Much easier with Polaris, as you can fan bullets, but an alchemer is more controlled.

One alchemer shot, because the bullets move slow, WILL aggrivate them to dodge when their dodge is off cooldown, if a huge group of devilites dodges, it just plays out perfectly and one alchemer shot can clip like 5 times. Of course, that doesn't always happen like most alchemer scenarios. Hail driver is stressed because freeze locks down Devilites pretty nice.

Remember to shield cancel after shooting one Callahan bullet isntead of just pausing and back to running. Because it causes loss of movement like swords, shield cancelling comes into play. So change up your shoot-pause routine if you haven't already done so.
