Was wondering if curses counted as shadow dmg and if so does stacking SR/CR mitigate it?

Status effects go around defenses... They're only affected by resists.

soooo......
I have a bit of fire resist and I notice I don't get set on fire as often as i used to. Maybe instead of mitigating dmg it gives a chance to negate the effect?
Status effects can't be blocked or, as far as I know, reduced in damage by type effects (for instance, high elemental resist doesn't reduce burning damage). I'm not sure if high curse resistance lowers damage from curse however.
