I'm looking for advice on what T3 shadow armor/shield to get. Primary use would be against devilites and in FSC.
I'm primarily a swordsman, but I'm slowly getting better with guns so gunner armor suggestions are also welcome.
I'm aware that a Snarby set would probably be best, but I really don't have access to that yet.
Advice on T3 Shadow Armor needed
Plus:
I used Skelly for my general Shadow set (only recently upgraded to Snarby). Skelly is good for this roll & about to receive a buff by having its Fire weakness taken away:

As far as FSC goes I would also recommend Vog set + Grey Owlite Shield. This is how I started, then when I was more comfortable I swapped out a Vog piece for a Skolver piece (and later a Snarby piece) and dropped my Owlite in favor of BTS. I usually Shiver-lock though, Gunners tend to for a Swiftstrike Buckler once they are comfortable in FSC.
Yeah, you'll still miss out on the fiend bonus, but not having that huge fire weakness (which angelic will still have) makes up for it, IMO.
BTW, the shield does not have a fire penalty even now. I don't think any shield has a penalty.
The Dread Skelly Shield is a great general purpose Fiend/Undead shield, especially for SL GWW.
I don't see any reason to bring it to FSC though (unless it is just all you have), especially since the CoA has Shadow/Normal/Fire/Shock.
Divine Veil, not Divine Mantle, has the fiend bonus you want. But if you're into crafting specialized sets, then I don't recommend going this route. Instead get pure shadow armor (Skelly, Valkyrie, Fallen, Deadshot, etc.).
Divine mantle doesn't get the fiend bonus, only the veil.
Maybe Shock and Fire on the same helm, combined with that fiend bonus, are worth giving up that normal resistance. Thoughts?
I derped. Ya, it' the veil with damage bonus.
It depends on if you want the best armor for a specific situation or if you want a general armor that is good/ok for many situations. There is still plenty of Normal damage to be suffered in T3. If you are talking about a set for FSC, keep in-mind that Vana's hammer does Normal/Stun/Fire and Slag Guards & Trojans do normal damage.
Okay, so there IS lots of normal damage in T3? I haven't been a T3 player for long (got vog set not too long ago), and I was under the impression that everything outside of SL's dealt pure specialized damage. Vog seems best for FSC.
Does anyone use the Divine set, or just the veil? The fiend bonus/shock/fire resist sounds nice, but the lack of normal resist makes me wary of crafting one. Anyone have good/bad experiences with it?
Also, how about gunners? Dunno if I'll ever be one, but I like to plan ahead. Shadowsun is going to have shadow resist now, and a damage bonus. Deadshot gets ASI. Thoughts?
but here are my thoughts anyway.
You always want some normal. I personally think the Veil is worth using, but I'd definitely pair it with normal. Preferably Vog, with a normal UV on it if possible.
I think any gunner on a budget is going to want MoS for an FSC helm. That leaves the armour. A gunner probably shouldn't be taking shadow damage, so go Nameless for ele resist against Vana's ranged attacks. For non-FSC shadow strata, I'd go for Shadowsun. Deadshot's undead bonus is nice, but fiends are at least as bad as kats, and zombies aren't worth thinking about.
I personally like the divine mantle, and its my go-to choice vs devilites/greavers, as both of its defenses are higher than normal (usually armor has 1 weaker defense) and it has several excellent status resists. The damage bonus is universal, and its a great piece of armor for fiends. However, I wouldn't recommend it if you're new to FSC, as Vanaduke's mace will nearly instakill you without normal defense on both armor pieces. Its definitely useable, and I ran FSC many times with it before picking up a volcanic demo helm, but you have to be twice as careful with the trojans, slags, and vanaduke himself.
As mentioned earlier, Mantle has no fiend bonus.
Divine mantle has a fiend bonus, along with shadow defence. Skelly armours are a good default shadow set, but has a fire penalty which will hurt you in fsc.
So for general shadow defence, skelly is fine. You'll want fire resist and elemental defence in fsc, simply because zombies are terribly easy, and the occasional hits will not kill you. Stuff like vog, nameless, and the magic set.
For shields, skelly is again a good choice. The other popular shadow shield is crest of almire, an upgrade from the 4* almirian seal reward blackened crest. The main difference between the 2 is the status resist. CoA has fire and shock. Skelly has poison, and I think freeze with a fire penalty? Don't quote me on it though.
For fsc, owlite serves better in the vana fight, either works fine in pre vana levels. The difference is whether you get stuck in huge zombie mobs and require shield walking through them. If skelly does have the fire penalty, it is not so good for being locked in slag breath.
