take down the forum for two weeks. reopen and see where the economy crisis stands then.

i feel like the forum is just making things worse, and theres too much fighting going on (which was fun for me to start crap in at first, but now its just exhausting). im sure two weeks isn't long enough, but I need a break from all the energy threads, and I'm sure others feel the same way. i like the normal stuff thats posted on the forums (or used to be), but those posts are (to paraphase the /b phrase) "the cancer that is killing spiral knights"..

(joke suggestion, but feel free to seriously do it)

Even though this is a joke, I

Even though this is a joke, I agree. The General Discussion forum is a disease. It's full of infighting about CE prices and doesn't actually discuss much. It's more of a Rants forum at this point.

Nooo...however will I find

Nooo...however will I find new people to randomly party with? >:/

Besides, that just means those people will be quiet for two weeks. Then a random new player will say something about energy and bam, let's start it again.

I do kind of know why they're not imposing law on the topics right now, trying to allow free speech and whatnot, but they might just want to take a lock all energy topics stance for awhile instead. We DO have other topics to write about. But they're getting buried.

Another solution

We need an active forum moderator. While I'm all for giving people a warning or even two since 'one strike and your out' for a rule that you didn't know about is kind of harsh, even if that rule is pretty much common sense. I'm a soft touch that way, I guess. But the amount of vitriol and disallowed words being thrown around in certain threads is getting out of hand. On puzzle pirates, such threads are very quickly locked, and repeat-offenders in violating the forum rules are soon forum-banned.

It may, however, be the case that the support staff doesn't exist to read those hundreds of posts and find the offenders, in which case I strongly suggest hiring someone. Constructive discussion is not really possible in the General Discussion forum at this time.

I can be your forum termina... I mean moderator.

Change General Discussion to Energy Discussion.

Ban anybody that posts there.

Problem, solved.

Let it go.

It's better to just let it all play out.

If you kill the forums with fire for two weeks, then that's just two weeks people have to bottle up all of their thoughts about it. Then when we get them back, people will be exactly as they are right now.

So my advice is to just let it go.

Eventually people will be sick of just saying crap about energy left and right. It's how all early controversies in MMO's work.

i hope you're right.

if i was a new player and walked into the forum and read through the "discussions" in general discussions before actually playing the game, I would probably be pretty turned off and might not even bother. its not really good publicity, considering whats going on there, so yeah.. would be nice if we had some more active moderators. though i probably would've gotten banned last night lol.

I sure hope so, but looking at some of these threads... certain users are really capable of hammering the exact same points home in every single post using the most offensive language possible. I'm not sure it's possible to tire them out when they seem to do nothing but sit at their computer and rant. War of attrition is always a tenuous tactic.

Cancer

New players don't need to visit the forums to be turned off from the game. There is a cancer killing Spiral Knights and it's not the energy threads on the forum.

But, alas, I know that when it comes to making changes to a system which directly affects a companies income (even if this change would be beneficial in the long run), companies will just ignore it until the proverbial #$%^ hits the fan but by then it's most likely too late.

How does someone not randomly walk in on a thread then? Do I have to be one of the first 3 posters and everyone is considered to have randomly walked in? How about first 5 posters? First 10?

@stardrinker - 2012 IS REAL, WE ALL GUNNA DIE!! ENERGY CRISIS 2011 PRECIPITATES THE GREAT UNRAVELING OF THE MAN, BEWARE!

There is, actually, a very real potential for an energy crisis in the real world. Not likely to happen in 2011 but the threat is there, funny you should mention it.

Also...

"the cancer that is killing spiral knights"..

These are actually your words, or rather, words you brought into this thread from another forum.

Stardrinker, by "walking in

Stardrinker, by "walking in randomly" I mean "posting something off-topic"; basically, gate-crashing a thread.

But you know, I'm a mite, really; what do you or anyone else care about what I think of a post of yours? I find it quite strange that you felt you had to respond. Then again, I'm responding, and I really should stop.

I don't really think I went off-topic at all, especially since this was pretty much a joke thread.

You really should work on that self-esteem of yours. Actually, it's quite strange that someone would come out onto an open forum and belittle themselves. Unless, of course, that person was just seeking attention, but I'm sure you're not that kind of person.

To be perfectly honest, posts

To be perfectly honest, posts that attack or complain about the people who are complaining about energy are just the same: Counter productive and not helping the situation.

Just as there are multiple threads regarding energy issues, people keep making threads going "stop talking about energy issues". Both sides are coming out with some nasty words and causing the forums to devolve into a mess of spam, and that needs to stop. It is easy to say it, but it still counts: Constructive criticism is what is needed, and players should be able to approach each other without the insults.

We need active administration and a consolidated place to talk about the issues of energy, if need be.

@catuscat222 -- I'm agreeing

@catuscat222 -- I'm agreeing with the fact that both sides are making things worse by arguing and getting emotional. And anytime multiple threads pop up for the same reason its annoying, on this topic or any other. If you think this falls into that category, I apologize for contributing to the noise polllution. It just has to stop or cool down. The forum is losing its fun factor since those threads are getting harder to avoid. I am fine with constructive criticism, but I'm sick of players who don't understand the game, or people whose personal who think SK falls out of their definition of F2P (so I'm more sympathetic to players defending the game). but no, we dont need 50 threads on either side of the issue.

@stardrinker - lol that was hypocritical of me, sorry. we just didn't want to get into energy debates all over again in here. just more of a "these schenangins need to stop" thread. also i was originally going to quantify it as "the cancer that is killing the spiral knights (forums)", because I think they game is going to procede whether those people like it or not, whereas the forum will likely be a mess until someone steps un

i'm sure everyone here

i'm sure everyone here appreciates it. its just a bad way to sort of introduce yourself to the forum. you just sorta, appear, seemingly hating on the game because of its limits. you must enjoy the game though and want it to get better, which is something we all agree on. i just think we don't all agree on what parts of it are broken.

and again i apologize on my attitude towards you and the nasty remarks. they were offensive, out of line, and just not good for the forum in general. i was just trying to get a rise out of you because you were pissing me off.

I don't understand people.

I don't understand people. CE exists so that the creators of the game can recoup costs of making the game in the first place. Yet everyone is all, "OH NOES, I CAN'T PLAY FOR FREE. REMOVE CE." It's annoying and a disgrace to the staff who worked so hard on the game. So the barrier to entry will be a bit harder for new people (who refuse to play with any cash). Sounds like their problem. Most real mmo's cost $30+ JUST TO START. Spiral Knights has a $0 entry barrier. So really. Comon guys.

Needs more destruction.

djbiznatch - a forum wipe would be better! Seriously, the amount of narrowminds, like the one below... is really causing an issue. I don't even see any decent threads now. They're all tainted and ruined! Implode the forums! The big red button~ Selfdestruct? Anything works.

zazabar - When you stop letting your money do your talking, only then would you be worth listening to. Is it really annoying for people to give the staff feedback or even complain? User complaints can change a game. Proof? It changed Mabinogi. A 'free' game that was given 'classes' and restricted everything, reverted to boosts instead of restrictions. We're the players, if they really didn't want us to say anything, then why do we have a suggestions forum? Or even "General" Discussion? So you're saying we should just play the game and say nothing? You know nothing of developers, do you? They're people, too. Guess you don't understand the same people you're trying to bring up, huh?

And, 75 cents isn't exactly recouping the cost for this game. Yet, many people can't even get that. And simply a bit harder? The prices slowly approach 5k, and 2 days of play may not even be enough to make that up for a new player. It's the inevitable truth. For new players, it's going to become unplayable. And, CE isn't the only way they can make money.

GodofSkype1 - the longevity of this game, huh... at this rate, it'd probably last a year, 3 years tops. Maybe it's a bit ominous that SEGA is part of it, since SEGA killed off PSO/PSU. Granted, those were P2P, but still.
@NegimaSonic - we do have other threads, but they either get ignored or caught in the crossfire. Besides, even if new players did, that's a good thing. Here's a different way to look at it - we're getting input from new players.

It's hard to be part of a community when it's not really a community. Couldn't even bother to post anything because there'd be another troll or two, or some spoiled brat going on about how they have money to blow on energy, and that "if no one else can get it, too bad".

Stardrinker, My apologies

Stardrinker,

My apologies for what I said. The whole energy debate raging across the forums is getting to me. There have been people being impolite on multiple sides, and I let that get to me, and I shouldn't have. Ugh. Entirely my bad.

Anyways, people who know me know that I do belittle myself in public, mostly because I don't really have self-esteem, and when I do put it to the test, I never feel very good about it—whether I end up in the right or wrong. And that's probably why forum arguments tire me out and make me snippy, especially when both sides start acting out.

And then I feel worse. Logic, how does it work.

@Gator
but in two weeks, those same spoiled brats and/or trolls will still be there for the second a new player says anything, so they can offer their tired advice in favor or against energy. Some who may have even been using that time to "perfect" their arguments. I like the suggestion from another thread, merge everything into one topic, delete/lock any further discussions. Keep the free speech while keeping it in one spot.

Also curse you for bringing me back into this topic and it having nothing to do with cupcakes...the cake is supposed to be a lie...not the cupcake >:/
