Just a thought, you know how akin the alchemers and brandishes are to each other? Each have the 3 deadly statuses of Fire, Freeze, and Shock and plain shadow. I'm curious as to why alchemers have an awesome line, the Prismatech Alchemer while brandishes have the um...awful Cautery Sword. What also kind of puzzling is why the status brandishes deal the same damage as the shadow one while the alchemers (Prisma and Shadow) deal the same amount and the statuses ones significantly less.

If there were to be a Prisma type of brandish line, do you think it would work? I mean, there would probably have to be adjustments to the other brandishes of course, but would it be possible to have one? :o

Eh...

I heard a rumor that with ASI the acheron is faster than other brandishes (just a rumor- otherwise, i dunno). I don't think a Pure ele damage brandish would work since it may overpower the DA (which is statusless and does pure ele, just saying), having 3 swings > 2 swings (if the DA and pure ele brandish had same atk power)

Cautery is the runt of the litter

The Cautery Sword is a rather new addition to the Brandish line, but I don't think it really has much usefulness when compared to the rest of the family since it lacks a 5* upgrade. As an avid user of the Acheron, Combuster, and Glacius (works wonders in FSC), I hardly think the Cautery is worth much mention.

I do see the parallel you're drawing between the Brandishes and the Alchemers, but I don't know if OOO designed both lines with that in mind. There are other swords that deal more elemental damage, so they probably just figured players would use those if that's what they wanted. I mean, if the Brandishes had every type of specialization (or Alchemers for that matter), there wouldn't be much need to acquire other sword lines.

As for the reduced damage that status guns deal out, I believe the Flourish line also does something similar. I believe the theory there is that inflicting fire/shock/freeze will compensate for a lower raw dps.

^Yep

Rigadoon line and Flamberge line upgrades of the Flourish do less damage in turn for the ability to inflict status effects on normal swings. I suppose the same logic applies to the Alchemers?

Just clearing some things up

1) The implication is that weapons of the same series have a base damage reduction if it has some sort of bonus vs. a [hypothetical] 'vanilla' version. (i.e. Calibur to Cold Iron, Needle Shot to Pepperbox.)

There are a few exceptions that come to mind, namely Nightblade and Faust. I believe both deal damage equal to their Elemental counterparts, which is regardless of additional abilities.

2) The Cautery Sword is not a recent addition. It's been there before the Brandish series even had complete lines and the explosive charge attack.

3) The Divine Avenger does not deal mono-Elemental, as was stated in post 2; it is Normal/Elemental.

At this point, I personally don't see much point in making a statusless Norm/Elem Brandish with higher base damage. There's mostly the Avenger for that, and the Rocket Hammer for pure Elemental.
Additionally, the Brandishes only deal the status on charge, so they don't share the risk of an unintentional proc that the Alchemers have.
