I often notice new players asking me questions in-game. So I decided to start a question-answering thread here. I'll attempt to answer every question to my fullest abilities. And if it's an opinion question, I'll be sure to include the opinions of a few anonymous friends who have played the game as long as I have. Although I appreciate any additional help players provide on this thread, I'd like to keep it to the point where only I answer the questions, to avoid confusion. It's not that I don't value your opinion, it's just that it keeps the thread more organized. Also, I will most likely post useful skills to use with certain weapons. I'll try to answer questions ASAP, but the wait time is sometimes a day long.

/salute

Just clarifying something.

I actually do intend to keep this thread running as long as people post questions. As for it being "just another veteran thread", I suppose it is. But is every veteran thread going to answer the same question with the same answer? I put this here partly as a helpful resource for those who need a second opinion.

so i was thinking about grabbing a 3* shockburst or fireburst in AH then finish the upgrades myself.

is this a good idea or its better use mist to craft some brandishes myself to try getting an UV?

if first option is better, what is a fair price to buy it?

or either will do then someday when i have spare money i get the UV from Punch?

Brandishes

Shockburst is a PVP reward. If you do want to buy it on the AH, you still need 100+ Krogmo Coins to finish it. Fireburst will be easier to upgrade.

Normally the 3* Brandish lines are SLIGHTLY cheaper to buy than they are to craft. A good price is about 15,000 - 16,500 crowns at best, to about 18,000 being the approximate price to craft your own.

I dont suggest ragecrafting. You have to funnel a lot of crowns into getting the materials you need, which is difficult at the beginning of the game. I have a Ragecrafting alt going, and it costs about 9,000 crowns to maintain it weekly. Of course, I get a good amount of said crowns back (1,000 per Brandish, 2 Brandishes per day, about 5,000 net profit).

Recipe

You forget the recipe costs something. If is he going to craft it on his own, he will be buying his own recipe.

well im doing about 2~3 blast network games a day at least, as i find it very funny. so the shock version being from krogmo im aware.

but as you said its cheaper to buy the 3*, so i ll do that.

the only problem is shock one 'price', as im paying about 200cr per game if i win every game it ll be around 10k cr to get the recipe (100 tokens right?), with 20k being the max. so in the end is that worth or the benefits over the fire one are minimal to care about (as i dont like PvP)?

EDIT: oh i forgot that you get money back if you win, so from the shock one im GETTING money to get the recipe if i win a good mount of games.

@Traevelliath - that isn't

@Traevelliath - that isn't rage crafting, that is mistcrafting. Ragecrafting is crafting a whole ton in a short timeframe. Crafting 2 a day is not a rage. It is easier and extremely close to the same exact cost (I did a cost analysis a while ago) to punch as it is to ragecraft.

If you want a specific UV, your best bet is to out right buy it on the AH. You can buy a brandish with CTR Med for ~60-100kcr depending on the day. That is 3-5 punches. Odds are not in your favor to get CTR Med within 5 punches. If you don't care about which UV you get, I'd craft from scratch. Yea, it might cost a few cr more, but in the end it will hardly matter and it increases your chances of getting a UV (2 extra crafts).

Which is better (combuster vs voltedge) is totally up to personal preference. I prefer Combuster over Voltedge because I inflict shock via Voltaic Tempest and because Combuster inflicts fire which does not stop monsters from riding the wave of explosions. Shock (and freeze) can stop monsters from moving which stops them from hitting each explosion as it happens. I do have a voltedge though, and I use it in any fire themed level.

oh i never knew that if the monsted gets froze or shocked it stops going back and getting hit by the explosions ._.

but in the end with this statuses its easier to hit them a second time...

Profit

About the ragecrafting, I agree with Nordlead. I craft 2 caliburs everyday I have not much time to go on, and I then sell them if they don't have my desired UV (ASI or DI). I normally make 300 cr profit from selling if I sell one with no UVs.

Cradle's Best Firestorm Citadel Fun Park. Help?

I have got my whole loadout ready for FSC, except for one thing... I can't decide on which shield to use. I have a Dark Thorn Shield and im planning to upgrade it to the Barbarous Thorn Shield. But i hear the Grey Owlite shield is good as well... I'm decent at dodging and i normally move away from the enemy first and blocking if i have to. So Barbarous Thorn Shield or Grey Owlite Shield?

Thanks in advance

Grey for FSC, you'll need the ele/fire resist on it to survive the environment, especially if its your first time doing FSC

My guess is heat zinc.

Every time someone revives you, they get 30% of the heat you got that level. They probably are either inviting you so you die a lot and they can get some extra heat, or they just really like you.

Or, they could just be completely stupid and invite anyone they can to join them in FSC, without either asking or thinking about what said person is doing.

Does the Defender Line suck?

Or is it a good all purpose shield?

Defender line

If you only want the defenses it works fine.

There is no true "all purpose" shield; arguably having pure normal defense with Plate or Omega Shell lines means having defense against everything, but against projectiles you have no specialized defense on it and your normal defense barely matters. If you have to use your shield more at close range go with something with high normal defense, otherwise Defender/Owlite/Skelly suits general use better.

Bristling Buckler has slightly less defense than Defender line but gives a sword damage bonus.

Agreement

I agree with luguiru. The defender line is good line for people who want defense and/or hybrids. The bristling buckler is an shield for Swordmen.

The Snarbolax shield is if you want more damage for swords. Otherwise use whatever you want. See here for my shenanigans.

To answer an earlier question about the "best" armor, there is no "best" armor; go with what you want. Unlike some other games, Spiral Knights allows everyone to do whatever they want and still be good at what they do. For example, Wolver is nice for sword damage bonuses, but if you are a bomber you want a Demo line. If you are a gunner you probably want Gunslinger. The Seerus masks are also very useful for gunners.

The reason Wolver is so favored is because the majority are primary sword users, approximately 85% from what I have seen during my entire time on this game. They might use a Pulsar or some gun as a sidearm, but dedicated gunners and bombers are fairly scarce. Gunners used to be more common than bombers, though now it seems to have evened out somewhat; people want area of effect damage, not to hide behind everyone else and flick enemies off them. Since the update with Razwog there have been more short term bombers, though they usually give up very very shortly after coming to Haven. Bombs are more based on delayed gratification when it comes to efficacy, delaying the majority of your advantages until everything is 4*+. Swords are easy to use in general so the majority go with them. Guns are mostly used as sidearms, but from personal experience they can be substantial weapons; not including Blitz. Blitz is already substantial in damage.

Unless Three Rings suddenly changes almost all family bonuses on armor (Chromalisk, etc.) to +3 per part at 5*, weapon specific equipment will be favored. Would you rather have Dragon Scale or Skolver for damage?

I could continue on about rants and discussions in another forum, but that would mean creating a wall of text large enough to divide Russia in half.
