Connection-Delay Issue

Hi fellow knights

I started playing SK not long ago, and I've been enjoying it so far.

but I noticed a little problem when I'm playing missions and such...there's a certain connection-delay...something like a lag

example: a monster attacks me, but I get hit before the actual attack animation happens on my screen...so I actually have to forsee the enemy pattern if I intend on blocking/dodging attacks

after noticing this, I also noticed that on the top right corner of my SK play screen, next to the mini-map, there's an Icon that ressembles those connectivity icons on cellphones...I'm not sure if it's a connection Icon really...but I believe it is

mine has only 2 sticks/bars filled...instead of 4, which would be the ideal, I believe.

I'd like to know if there's a way to improve my connection in SK (to make the icon have 4 full bars) and therefore avoid this delay I have at missons which messes up the gameplay by quite a bit >:

My Region is set to "From IP" before anyone asks...and I live in Brazil.

Sorry if I'm mistaken about the icon meaning connectivity...I'm not really sure about it.

Thanks in Advance~

Sorry to say

Nothing you can do about your connection/lag problem. Brazil is far from the US servers therefore you would definitly get animation delays. Until, Three Rings or Sega puts up a South American server, all players playing far from it would still have to suffer connection issues.

You can try updating your network card through tcp/ip optimizer but I don't think it helps much. You can also try to lower your graphics settings: such as resolution, click/check compatibility mode, anti-aliasing to 1.

If this is computer hardware lag, try cleaning your desktop pc's or laptop's fan/heatsink. Let more air through so your cpu workload won't reach 100%.

It's doable

Yep, I play at the same speed (two bar, orange connection.) Your latency makes it happen. Most of the game can be played at two bars. It makes devilites somewhat broken, but other than that, the game can be played at two bars.

As for your connection woes, the only thing I can think of is to get a high speed connection. If you already have a high speed connection, then there's not much you can do aside from move closer to the servers.

Nyan nyan nyan nyan....

I'm currently in a rush(again), so I'll try and tell you some of the key tips I found:
1. Shield/Dodge early, don't leave things to the last second. If all else fails, spam charge attacks from a distance(especially if swordie).
2. Close other programs and pages, reducing quality to low, etc., search for a thread "Tips on reducing lag collection" in the search bar.
3. Try to kite and dodge more, run through traps earlier, etc. to reduce those cheap moments when a monster ignores your shield/dodging.
Really gotta go now, I'll see if I have the time to add more tomorrow. Oh, and like you said, it'll help a lot if you try to predict enemy movements. :L

Some tips to tide you over your connection:

- Shield early

- Don't shield and walk if you want to run.

- Use shield-cancel attacks. i.e. shield immediately after attacking and let go. This will cancel out all after-attack cooldown animations.

- Don't ever combo (swing all the way) in rage. You can't move for a moment after your finishing swing, which gives monsters more time to attack you.
Not saying NEVER combo, but only combo if you have a clear direction on where the monsters are going to attack.

- Favour running/shielding from charging. Always move yourself to a safe place before charging.

- It's okay to take damage. Unless you are in a place full of monsters you don't have defence for (e.g. you brought piercing armor but entered a gremlin level), one hit is enough.

- (only for brandish-line swords) You can try to squeeze an attack in after unleashing your charge. The server will recognise a hit if you manage to hit it before the monster gets blown across the room.

- Try to dodge bullets more than using your shield to block them. You can shield to make sure you don't dodge a bullet and run into another (this WILL happen) Shielding can slow you down for that.

- It's best that you can kill the monsters in two hits in a solo run (just a benchmark).
This is important, because you can disable turret-based monsters (gun puppies, jelly polyps, howlizers, kats, devilites) quickly before they overwhelm you with bullets.

- Find the farthest reach of your weapon. That way, you can start your attack early.

- Shield early, but learn to let go of your shield early. You will have the fear of getting hit after unshielding, but if your connection is bad enough the server will still think your shield is still up when you let go on your side.

- Kill healers first (or whenever you find that the healers are doing too good a job.)

Here's video of me before the mecha knights fixbug. Sorry for slightly faster play speed; This was before I used bandicam. Regretted it a lot.

call your isp

call your internet service provider, he can trace u to better route.

thanks for the responses

Thanks for all the responses everyone~

about the graphics/PC suggestions...it's not really PC lag, it's just latency, like someone stated...so I guess changing the graphics/my PC wouldn't change much

my internet isn't bad also too...though yeah, it's far from the servers...so it's sorta natural there's latency...I sorta expected this, but was hoping there was something I could do about it

btw, the icon on the top right really is latency then, right?...and the ideal would be 4 bars?...just wondering

@Quandasim
I'd be traced to a better route for an US server and such?...problem is, I'm not the only internet user in the house, so it's unlikely I could ask for such a modification...I'm curious though, how would this work exactly? is it possible to lessen latency from farway servers without living close to them?

@Everyone
Thanks for the tips, some of these things you said, I was already doing...the bad thing about dodging projectiles, is that the latency shows me them, not exactly where they are, so I have to be standing out of their line asap (if they're fast projectiles, like those tridents from that pink devil-ish monster)

but I'll do my best still...thanks everyone~

Well... I've been trying to

Well...

I've been trying to play with the latency all this time...it's doable...in PvE at least...though PvP is absolutely impossible

So

I'd like to know...what "trace you to a better route" means...or any other solution

am I bound to always play with a latency handicap because of where I live? ;/

SK is a great game, I really have fun playing it...but it would be much more fun / less stressful if I could play it latency-free
