I've noticed some weeping and gnashing of teeth in response to the new emoticon commands added. If the strings parsed for just have slashes prepended, we can again be able to say things we now cannot and still be able to use them fancy new emoticon thingies. More importantly, IMO at least, everything that is parsed for and handled abnormally would begin with a slash- principle of least surprise and all that.
