Right now I'm getting to higher leveled missions in tier 3, and I'm having a lot of trouble getting through 8-2 missions. What's the best armor setup for tier 3 missions. Right now, I have Vog Cub Cap, Vog Cub Suit, and barbarous thorn shield. I have Elite Strike modules for my trinkets, and have ASI medium on my Divine Avenger. My other 2 weapons are Sentenza (with bonus vs. slimes UV) and BTB (no useful UV as of right now). Should I switch my Barb thorn shield for a 5* skelly shield? Would it be worth switching over to that?
Tier 3
Yeah, my shield is breaking quite often, just because of all the ranged enemies. I can never dodge all their attacks, because they all attack simultaneously and it sucks. After my shield breaks, I end up getting poisoned, and from there it's downhill. The ones that give me the most trouble in terms of breaking my shield are the devilite series. And since the problem is that I have no shadow defense, and the monsters in the tier 3 missions don't do piercing damage, but rather shadow damage, should I start making a tier 5 skelly shield? Would it be worth it? Thanks.
A shadow shield will help you the most, since that seems to be what's troubling you.
I'll get flamed for this, but go ahead and get a skelly shield. You don't have access to crest of almire. A 4* shield will break less often your bts.
Practice more with dodging, it will help you more than any shield.
Your situation is quite common. Many players optimize their equipment for FSC, because it is the "endgame", and then find that fiend levels are actually harder. A shadow shield would hold up much longer than your BTS. Dread Skelly is fine. Some shadow armor would help.
As Demonicsothe said, you can make up for poor equipment with great skill. Practice until you know the devilite AI intimately. Make single slashes with the BTB, to interrupt attacks, and then dodge.
To be honest, if I were you I'd do this: Run FSC to get Crest of Almire. Get at least one piece of Skolver armor. Run SGWW (Rabid Snarbolax) to get Snarbolax armor. Then fiends will be much easier. Of course, this takes a while. By then, your skill may be enough to beat fiends. Sorry I can't give a better answer.
Thank you for the help guys. I was already planning on Getting snarbolax armor at some point (just because I want to have interchangeable sets for different scenarios). Also, what's FSC? I can't figure out what that would stand for, but I'm assuming it's the vanaduke boss since you said to do it to get Crest of Almire. Is Crest of Almire really worth the effort though? Just wondering. I've heard people take both sides, saying either it's really good for PvE, or saying that it's more of a WANT for PvE rather than a need.
fsc is firestorm citadel, where the boss vanaduke does reside.
Crest of almire differs from skelly in its status resist. Coa protects from shock and fire, which is considered by many the 2 most dangerous status. Skelly protects from poison, and something else I don't recall.
What this means is that a coa will take less damage from attacks with shock/fire, while skelly will take more attacks with poison.
So if you already have one, the other becomes a luxury piece. Or you can take a skelly to 4*, then farm fsc for a blackened crest into crest of almire.
"So if you already have one, the other becomes a luxury piece. Or you can take a skelly to 4*, then farm fsc for a blackened crest into crest of almire."
That should work.
Why would you get flamed for suggesting dread skelly shield? It protects against poison and freeze and gives better shadow defense than crest. Its a very decent shield.
The dread skelly shield's freeze defense is also useful for 2nd arena in the gauntlet with the undead, fiend & freeze theme.
The poison would be good for snarby SL if you prefer it over a pierce shield.
*note* Skelly also has Freeze protection
*edit* ^ was beat. Also, Dread Skelly Shield is excellent for SL GWW.
Better than the advice I give 90% of the time.
I did respect your opinion....just so that you know.
Thanks for the help, everyone! I'm going to get started on my Dread Skelly Shield when I next get the chance to play. All your information and feedback was very helpful :D
Your equipment is good, although you lack shadow protection, and your only piercing protection is your shield. We could use more information:
Which monsters, in particular, are giving you trouble? See the wiki page "Damage" (or read those filler missions carefully) to learn each monster family's preferred damage type (e.g., slimes inflict piercing damage), and get armor to protect against the monsters that are giving you trouble.
The 8-2 missions seem poison-heavy. Are you getting poisoned a lot?
Does your shield break a lot? From which kinds of monsters?
Most Tier-3 missions are identical to ordinary Tier-3 levels. Do you also have trouble playing in ordinary Tier-3 levels in the Clockworks?
