I am in need of some sage advice xD
Polaris vs. Supernova

I need a excellent gun for any any sitiuation.

If you want a gun for EVERYTHING you would use a valiance

I'm the original Rangerwill.. why steal my forum account name?

You havent been keeping up with the forums have you...

I'd very much appreciate it if you stopped. I'm kind of sore on the OOO devs for letting deleted names be taken, as well.

dig a couple pages back in the general discussions

It's fairly easy to see who's real when you see his grammar is extremely poor, while mine is decent.

Rangerwillx is the real one.
Also, Supernova and polaris, well it depends. Supernova for all situations and polaris for Vana and the twins.

C'mon Trying, give the real Rangerwill a break. :P

Waitonesecondthere. That's Trying? Last person I'd expect to do that, lol.
Thanks Isis.

k im gonna actually give some advice to this guy. :P
Polaris is elemental, making it good on constructs and undeads, and decent on fiends and slimes. and the only one of those which dodge are .. fiends
supernova is normal and does less damage and neutral damage, which means that opposed to polaris, it is better on beast and gremlin. .. but wait ... those types of enemies ALWAYS dodge.. not to mention that the bullets move very slow, making it most always miss dodgers.
so pick polaris if available, it also does shock which is useful too

Supernova is worse only for Constructs and Undead and even that, not that much. If you want reliable (reliable because duh, shock ticks prevent knockback) knockback and something that can get menders to fall on their backs, go for Supernova. And don't listen to anyone saying that Pulsars will always miss dodgers, as its basically not true. You just need to practice with it and in no time you will hit all but Wolvers. No joke. Also, Polaris is only good for FSC itself, for Vanaduke Supernova is much, much better. With maxed damage Polaris i did like 130 to Vana iirc, Supernova with maxed damage does like 200 so as you see its also a really nice gun for Vanaduke when your party doesn't have shiv or you want to solo Vanaduke but don't have the ASI+CTR for Blitz Needle. Just because it deals normal damage doesn't mean its awful.
Only go for Polaris if you want to spam it in Lockdown or only use a gun for turrets.

It depends on whether you want elemental or normal damage. Normal damage works on everything (including gremlins and wolvers. Yes, you can easily hit gremlins and wolvers, even with the supernova's slow bullets.) So, if you want a reliable weapon, go with the supernova. If you want a weapon that's better on constructs and undead but sacrifices damage on wolvers and gremlins, go with the polaris.
If you want it for PvP, then get the polaris. Spirals are resistant to normal damage, so polaris is clearly superior in PvP.
-edit-
However, if you really want a gun for wolvers and gremlins, you should take the valiance instead. It has much faster moving bullets.

To add to the post before mine, in PvP Polaris can still shock people even though they have shock-resistant gear, or at least the Skolvers with shock resist. I'd like to see someone test Mercurial with shock UV's or something similar in PvP.

A lot of people don't get the point in PvE, and are very misleading.
Polaris shock cancels the knockback, which can make it a frustrating, sometimes hugely inferior weapon compared to the Supernova in terms of survivability.
Second, Polaris is extremely useful against Devilites, though both Super and Polaris are great at taking out giant packs of overtimers safely. Just because "fiends dodge" doesn't make it is automatically useless on them, only someone who has never used either enough to comment on both would say that. Polaris takes out giant packs of overtimers much quicker than a Callahan, and is ridiculously more safer than a Blitz.
When it comes down to it, you look at only two main things. Are you using Polaris as an elemental dps weapon a lot of the time, or are you using its knockback for survivability? Are you using Polaris for killing turrets?
If you have a problem with turrets, go Polaris. If you would like to have a more DPS-oriented elemental gun, go Polaris. If you are just looking for a gun that is still great on gun puppies but not as good on them, as well as the best for survivability with the most stable knockback, then use a Supernova. If you are a swordsman / bomber after a sidearm, think which one of these scenarios you will have the most trouble with. For a sidearm, your best choice tends to be Polaris. As a gunner, get both.
>>>>The following information below is for GUNNERS (NOT swordsman / bombers!)<<<<
A Polaris CAN be used as a DPS-oriented gun, due to its specialty damage type. But you SHOULD NOT use it as a DPS-oriented gun because it is just absolutely silly to spam it on things. You will look like you are new, and your group will hate you (assuming you are using it wrong. There are ways to utilize it in a party to where it is useful, but these situations are not 24/7)
If you are a gunner, use Supernova only if you have other elemental, shadow, and piercing DPS guns with you, depending on the strata of course. You CAN (but SHOULD NOT) use Polaris without another elemental gun (Argent or an alchemer).
My preference? Every single one of my loadouts include a Polaris, but I NEVER use it for DPS. Only utility (which is turrets and survivability).
What does this mean for Polaris vs. Supernova for gunners if you are not willing to get both? Do you have a problem with turrets, or a problem with survivability on packs of kitable things. Decide between those two.
I think no Rangerwill is the real since he created a big attention thread where he wrote he had left the game. But I don't know, just my opinion, if I'm wrong or I missed something, sorry.
To the gun question, normal damage is good if you want to use it everywhere. But I recommend several guns with different damage.
Move this to the arsenal, please. Edit your post and move it to the arsenal.
Also, give us more information. What will you be using it for? Will it be all around, or only in certain situations?
