No GPU?Anyway, does Spiral

No GPU?

Anyway, does Spiral Knights get far enough along to create a "projectx.log" file in its folder? If it does, could you post it?

Yes. Three Rings keeps moving it for some reason.

It used to be in C:\ ... \Application Data\Roaming\spiral\, then it moved to C:\ ... \Application Data\LocalLow\spiral\, and now it's there. :p

My problem(s)....

My problem is that for the past few days, whenever I go to the "play" page in the browser on my laptop, it gets stuck on the white screen and never loads. I tried downloading the client, but it can never establish a connection to ThreeRings.net. When I play on my desktop, however (where I already downloaded the client), I have no problems. Well, not problems other than when the window randomly closes...

Nefenjo, how much RAM does

Nefenjo, how much RAM does your desktop have?

As for your laptop, you can try running this batch file. If running the batch file doesn't help, could you post your projectx.log file?

Re: Starmandeluxe

I don't know offhand how much RAM my desktop has, but i know it's at least 2 GB. My laptop has 4 GB DDR3. I tried running the batch file, but the game still won't load. I'll post my projectx.log file.... as soon as I can find it. :-/

Edit: Turns out I don't have said projectx.log file. Not that I can find, anyway. I'm running W7, and neither of my "Program Files" folders contain a folder for "Three Ring Design." Also, the built-in "search for files or folders" turned up empty.

That's strange. Spiral Knights closing randomly is usually due to running out of memory, but 2 GB is plenty.

What about Java? Having more than one version of Java installed can cause memory leaks. Do you have only Java 6 Update 31 32-bit installed?

No projectx.log file? That rules out a lot. Can you make sure you only have Java 6 Update 31 32-bit and 64-bit installed and then try the manual installer?

If the game still doesn't run even with a manual install and only Java 6 Update 31 on your laptop, we'll have to start looking into Java's control panel.

Re: Starmandeluxe

I'm at school right now on my laptop - I'll check my desktop for Java issues when I get home tonight.

For my laptop, I checked, and I only have Program Files(x86)/Java/jre6... And when I try to load the game, the Java that lauches in the taskbar indicates that it is the proper version/update.

As for the installer... Any time I click the "If you experience technical difficulties, click here to download the game instead" link, it opens up a new blank tab and says "Waiting for download.threerings.net..." in the corner until the connection times out:
No data received
Unable to load the webpage because the server sent no data.
Here are some suggestions:
Reload this webpage later.
Error 324 (net::ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE): The server closed the connection without sending any data.

I was able to download the Linux installer with Firefox just fine. (I'm unable to test the Windows installer at the moment.) Which browser are you using and could it be your school's network?

Re: Starmandeluxe

I use google chrome... I suppose it could be my school's network.... I thought of that, but it worked fine up until the end of last week. And I don't see why they would block this one game and leave open sites like facebook, youtube, and pretty much everything else. I will try playing it tonight on my laptop at home and see if it works there.... If so, we know what the problem is. :-/

EDIT: I'm home now, and everything is working fine on my laptop. -_- Easy fix, but frustrating nonetheless. I'm going to download/install the client on it now and see if I can play from that at school later.

Desktop:
Approx. total memory is 1273 MB. In the Program Files (x86)/Java folder, I found that there are additional folders than what I found on my laptop (which is much newer), so I will try just uninstalling Java and reinstalling it so that only the latest version is present.

Thanks for all your help!

That may indicate you have more than one version of Java installed, which could cause memory leaks and seemingly random crashes. I hope this is the case as all you would have to do is remove all versions of Java from Add or Remove Programs and reinstall the latest version; an easy fix.

"Thanks for all your help!"

My pleasure. :D
