I'm new and I remember reading somewhere on the forums that you can actually tell which strata youll be heading to and therefore can plan out a route. Can anyone tell me how exactly you do this? Thanks in advance

I think it's also helpful to note that while you are in the clockworks, under the main gear button in the upper left, there is a "gate map" option that shows you where you will be (hypothetically) going among the available levels for each gate. I certainly didn't know about this feature for a while.

What if...
When I upgrade all my stuff and get to the level 2 , will I all ways start out on level 2 from then on when I get on an elevator in the arcade?

If so, when you are granted acces to Moorcroft Manor (by having all 2* equipment and have talked to the guard outside Moorcroft) you can choose Tier 2 when you stand by an elevator.. So you may if you want still do Tier 1.

Also worth noting that jumping to tier 2 has an overhead cost in crowns unless you've finished tier 1 of that gate at least once. It can be worth it, then, to clear a gate down to tier 2 and run it repeatedly.
Each icon on the gate totem represents a different stratum. Each strata consists of levels between resting points in a dungeon: the towns (Haven, Moorcroft Manor, and Emberlight), the Clockworks Terminals (in the middle of each strata), and the Core (currently sealed).
So if you see Fire-Slime-Beast-Fiend-Poison-Undead, that means you'll encounter Fire until the first Clockworks Terminal. Then from the first Clockworks Terminal to Moorcroft Manor, you'll see Slime levels. After Moorcroft Manor and before the second Clockworks Terminal, you'll see Beast levels; after the second Clockworks Terminal and until Emberlight you'll see Fiends; and so on and so forth.
