Okay I want to complain about something.
No, it's not Energy. Put your torches and pitchforks down.
But seriously, if you say "WTB" something, be prepared to make an offer.
Especially if you don't like my offer.
It really, REALLY ticks me off when people just say "no thanks" or "nvm" or "lol" when they have no counter-offer prepared-- I'm sorry but if you can't even prepare that, what business do you have conducting business?
Get the hell out of my economy.
*puts down his angry old man walker*

I assume unless they include "or best offer" or something about "negotiation", they're probably not willing to step down on it. Unless I really need it, then I'm not that worried about pursuing it further.
Well to be honest I don't even bother to barter if the price is not within the range. A lot of us already have a price in mind and if it's too high. A nvm or no thanks is kind enough. This is a game, and that's what you get for rejected offers. Quit asking for more. :O
and there have been times when i'm buying and people refuse to give their offer and when i say mine. they REFUSE to barter and do the same. So...what can I do? Deal with it.
again, there has been time when I ask for a price check but no one replies. So to know the price, I resort to either asking someone whom is selling/buying or I'll shout out WTB xxxxx.
Anyway,
Have fun, if not. Go do something else that's fun.
You don't have to barter Syor, just mention the price you were looking for would suffice. That is courtesy rather than a "no thanks" which is just plain rude. Keep that in mind.

Pretty much same with me.
If it's at or below what I have in mind, I'll say 'OK' and buy it.
If it's slightly above, ill haggle to come down to a price I'm willing to pay.
If it's much higher than my price range I'll say 'no thanks' and not even bother.

I think you need to understand, I used to do what you said. And nearly every single time I try to haggle someone who starts off at an unreasonable price, I get either insults or I get a 'no thanks' (yes ISN'T THAT RUDE!) back.
So, what has this taught me? Not worth the effort really.
Someone explain to me how "No thanks" is rude? I must be missing the rudeness in refusing a terrible offer, such a terrible offer it isn't worth trading with the guy who is clearly trying to rip you off.
A lot of people just don't know what the price of an item is worth and are trying to figure it out. Not to mention they want to hear all kinds of deals and pick the best one. Which is how the business world does work. You won't just settle for the first offer you see. You look around.
Also sometimes the offer will end up being more than they can afford or were considering. Players then learn how much they really need to spend and end up saying 'no thanks' to the offer.
However, I do agree that it would help if both buyers and sellers just listed their prices instead of saying 'offer'. (I can't tell you how many times i get upset when a seller says offer and gets pissed off at me for not meeting a more outrageous price and THEN tell me how much they will sell it for. But again, this can be avoided if I just list the price I'm willing to buy it at from now on.)
Because they waste your time by getting your hopes up on a sale rather than telling you the price they would like to buy it for and potentially getting it cheaper.
If they say, "No thanks," and you're not happy about it: offer it up cheaper. But the act of saying "No thanks" is very much not rude. You'd have a point, albeit a pretty bad one, if they didn't even bother responding. That isn't the case, however. In all actuality, the only rude people in this schabang are those who are demanding a counter offers and prices in your Haven spam.
What do you mean you don't want to haggle?! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xm7K4VM_7Rg
Well from personal experience I do tend to reply with a "No thank you, I was looking for x price.". Especially in this game, where the community is by far, superior to other MMORPGs, I put effort into being nice to people. A straight out "No thanks" just leaves people wondering what kind of price you wanted y'know.
To each his own though, so your points are equally valid.
Edit: I rephrased it, had a talk with Syor. Very enlightening since my statement could offend people. I always thought it was courtesy to tell them what I was looking for instead of outright rejecting. The basis was on another similar argument in another game.
"No thank you, I was looking for x price. Good luck on your sale though!".
Thats a seriously rude sarcastic reply, you shouldn't say so if you don't want to offend someone accidentally.
Only if you interpret it as being rude. As I said, to each his own.
The only time I say "Pass" or "Thanks but no thanks" is when people start off with an outrageous offer. I'm looking for a 3 star recipe and they open with 25k or more for instance. Cya buddy, hope you find your golden goose, because this nest egg is stayin' with me.
In retrospect I didn't mention the context in which it was rude. I just assumed that people were naturally courteous here. By all means go ahead with "no thanks" if the guy is being rude :|

yeah i dislike when people dont want to haggle, whether its people im offering things to or people i'm buying from. materials are hard for me because the value seems to have gone down a lot lately, or people are just selling at crazy low prices to get buyers since so many people are selling, so i usually go too high on what i ask because im used to prices from two or three weeks ago. generally i dont buy materials from others unless i see a baragin toogood to pass up.
at least with recipes I know what a reasonable profit expectation is, and when someones ripping me off, so i haggle appropriately. when i sell them i usually dont even care to profit, i just want to get my money back.
Huh.
When I say "Buying X, tell me your price!"... I typically get five or six responses.
I then talk to the best offer.
Me announcing that I want to buy = Me holding a blind auction, in reverse.
Kids don't know bartering. They are used to games where there are auction houses. The last time I had to barter like I do here is back in 1999/2000, Everquest 1. It brings back memories and makes me happy.
