Its easier to get the Max
Its easier to get the Max bonuses with bombastic now than with volcanic. General damage bonus isn't a UV, CTR is. I guess the freeze resist could also protect from hail driver. Freeze can get irrigating when it hits, I can imagine especially for a bomber.

Bomb Damage in Lockdown = useless.
Bombastic Demo anywhere = inferior.
Go for volcanic demo or simply your favourite normal armor + a single focus module.

Where do you come from, somewhere where bombers use mist bombs only in LD? Whatever.
RSS, and any other damage bomb you'll be taking will be a ton more dangerous with that vh damage bonus.
That, + Recon and you're set for LD.
What you just said was like "Why use Shadowsun in LD? The helm gives a MEDIUM ctr bonus."

Hmmm..
I do own a RSS, Blast bomb and most other dmg bombs except DR.
But I was just asking as it is a freeze res Demo with DMG only. With recon, it adds CTR medium. With a fully heated bomb (CTR Med) it will make a VH CTR set.
Adding CTR and DMG trinkets= Max.
In the CW, Getting two DMG trinkets will give the same bonus as mad bomber?
But the only reason for bombastic is for LD and freeze res.

Recon adds VH ctr to bombs.

See that, it gives medium charge time reduction to all weapons, and medium ctr to bombs. Medium + Medium = VH ctr.
VH ctr + Fully Heated Bomb = max ctr.

The real question is: does mad bomber make you too weak and turnss the extra damage worthless?
Even if the ctr part is wasted, you could try hybrid mad/bombastic with some UVs at least, or go Guardian isntead of Recon.

If you want to go striker bomber, you really have no choice but to go mad bomber. You need every bit of power you can get to counter that CTI VH and maybe some decent UVs too to free up for a slot for a penta
I do see shiv's occasionally, and full bombastic/skolver won't save you from a freeze.
But I think the allure is recon for the ctr, and bombastic + heart trinkets.
