The customer is always a sitting duck

Why are you auctioning this? This does not appear to be a unique variant or anything special. Basically, you're "auctioning" the right to purchase one specific pre-made item from you.

Crafting costs:
- 8900 crowns (=< 200 energy at current prices: 5k+2.5k + 1k+400 crowns for the 4 steps)
- 650 energy (300+200+100+50)

Base costs: ~850 energy

- Materials: some vaguely rare stuff; nothing phenomenally unusual, though. A cost of 1k total energy then would seem fine and reasonable.
- Leveling costs: It does indeed take time and work to level an item for crafting. Meanwhile, you get crowns and materials from your adventures
- Recipes: this doesn't really count, because arguably you made the shield for your own use. But let's toss on 10% of the recipe cost just for kicks: that would add 6750 crowns, aka 167 energy

Upper estimate of reasonable costs: 1,200 energy

In conclusion: at a price of 4k crowns per 100 energy, anyone paying >=2.5k energy is actually spending MORE to get this item than if they bought all the recipes, materials, and elevator fees to make it outright. As energy becomes more valuable, the "wow I overpaid" threshold can be expected to drop to 2k or lower (probably soon).

Auctions work best for unique variants, where you're selling something that can't be so easily purchased elsewhere. But the current bidding is way high, so I'd recommend that the people bidding step back and re-evaluate what they're getting.

I'd recommend you to NOT

I'd recommend you to NOT decide to vomit all over someone's attempt at creating business. Why do people sell materials when you can just go into a dungeon and get it yourself?

Because there's something to be said about not having to do ANY of that work. Time is money.

It's also not a pre-made. So you're buying a chance at one, and if you don't get one you've at least got yourself a 5* shield.

It's also an auction. If you look at the starting bid, that's well under the minimal price to make a shield yourself. People don't HAVE to necessarily pay more than base cost, but if they choose to that's their choice. I don't necessarily expect anyone to bid buyout. But hey, that's the genius point about auctions. If someone values something more than you do, and they bid more than you do, you're by no means committed to just HAVING to bid higher. You can just stop there, and let that other person get what they want.

It becomes at that point, a question of how much extra they're willing to pay to have someone else do all the work for them, rather than have to hunt down their own materials, do the levelling themselves, and take the time to do all that. Thus, it should be THEIR opinion whether or not to bid on an item, at any price-- whether it's cheaper, or more expensive than base cost. Not yours. If someone decides that paying buyout on any auction is easily what the item is worth to them, then that's up to them.

But you know what? I apologize for any of the past "anger" that was directed towards you. I understand where you're coming from, and I commend you for "watching your fellow players' backs". But if you can't understand why I would react in this way (and trust me, it's not because you're killing off "potential profit"), then I'm not really the bad guy here.

So if you don't mind, if your only intent is to destroy any attempts at business, you can leave my thread.

@pauling When did the market

@pauling

When did the market place become the place to discuss personal opinions? We don't care how much you think it's worth. So unless you are going to sell one to me for dirt cheap, stop commenting.

I, for one, think the amount of time and effort to obtain the recipes and time to build up all that heat is worth that extra CE.

Pauling is trying to argue

Pauling is trying to argue silliness with pointlessness. Or vice versa.

This is an effective topic, yes.
