Is there a way to tell what all these mission crests look like? Obviously I could go put them on... I know how to do that. What I'm wondering is if there is a way to preview them?
Am I wrong in thinking that once it is attached to an armor, it can't be removed without destroying the crest?

No you are not wrong in thinking that you cannot remove the crest without destroying it.
A crest is an accessory, and just like all accessories, they cannot be removed without destroying them.
So always think wisely before accessorizing.
For preview, it's better to use bechamel, since he blocks your whole arsenal but armors and accesiores tabs. Easier browsing.
Go to a vendor and hit preview and click on your crest/accessory
