Would the calibur and blaster lines be suitable for everyday missions/clockworks? They only take up two weapon slots, being normal type, plus they both have knockback of some kind(not that I'm looking for knockback or anything). The recipes are free, which is a nice bonus too, and apparently the calibur charge can hit three times, while blaster seems like a handy gun.
I tried to hit three times with the charge today in tier 1, with auto-aim on, I still only saw a single damage number appear above enemies. Same went for turrets, although they had less health(tested with normal hits) and died with only one damage value, so I'm not sure if it did hit thrice. Any advice on this? I've tried doing it close to walls to pin down enemies, but the only enemy it worked on was a monster box that disappeared before I could see the monster inside.
For the blaster line, won't supernova deal higher dps compared to blaster? Or would the higher speed of blaster's shots out-dps supernova's expanded/non-expanded shots? With the higher speed, would it be better to unload all three shots at once for dps? This is just for a normal type all-rounder loadout by the way.
Ye ol' Calibur
You could play the whole game with just Leviathan and Valiance, though only if your playtime is severely limited. After all, they're pretty mediocre compared to specialized weapons - specialized weapons usually have more functions (e.g. Brandish explosions or DA projectile blades vs Leviathan's simple knockback spin, Alchemer bullet ricochet vs Valiance's 3 shots which have no utility/AOE/whatever).
I'm definitely serious, I'm unsure to whether I'm hitting more than once with the calibur charge, and how the calibur line will fare against general monsters. Main concerns will have to be for crowds and fiends, whether I should get speed or damage bonuses for it and the usage of the charge attack, which I assume is for defense, and occasionally dps on stationary targets. For the Calibur charge, would it work if I were to bump an enemy to the side, lure them to the side of the wall while I charge, and release the charge when I'm near the wall? I basically have trouble(I think) getting all three hits to land for the charge.
Seeing how Valiance has knockback too, and that knockback isn't a problem for me in terms of dps(plus its AoE is good for crowds) I'm more concerned as to whether Valiance still does higher dps with its higher speed, or if it's for defense as well, for the all-range slight knockback.
Thanks for the replies, i was hoping that they wouldn't be situational, like how Metagenic had said, with a less functions to take on more situations. Currently, i have three weapon slots(Thanks Perronius!^^), but with two weapon slots, I would kinda prefer just one weapon class to cover the weaknesses of the damage types, e.g. two swords/guns, two bombs too, albeit for covering dps/crowd control.
Idk about blaster vs supernove but:
Polaris beats supernova. The shock can jump between close enemies and wolvers and gremlins are annoying with any gun anyways.
"I don't know Supernova well, but it and Polaris have insane amounts of knockback."
Dwight Shcrute- False: Polaris can Cause Shock, which can Negate the Knockback whole. Supernova has the Best knockback of the two.
I also have a hard time taking this question seriously as you are not actually a Nub...
If you have the skill, yes anything can be don with a Levi & Valiance, but then again that statement is also true for proto weapons (though more skill and even more patience would be needed). I personally did all of my T1 and 99.9% of my T2 playing with a Calibur/Blaster combo. It is sufficient, but most people that get used to dealing Special damage is not going to go back to Normal. For many enemies its not a big deal, but I hate fighting Deviltes or Grievers without a Piercing sword (just not fun).
Calibur Charge. If you are only seeing 1 number on a pined or stationary target in T1 for a Calibur charge attack, it is because the target was killed by the first hit & the 2nd & 3rd just hit air or corpse. Often you will only see 2 hits registered on turrets, because that is all it takes to kill. Once you get into stratum 6 though, in a 4 man party, a Levi with DMG+ Max will still not kill a gun puppy in one charge showing #s for all 3 hits (a single extra regular hit is needed). I used to love combo'n a Shiv with the Levi charge. The Brandish Charge is sooo powerful (especially buffed), that I don't ever really do this anymore.
*edited* (wow brain-fart)
The AP, Sentenza, Polaris, or Alchemers are going to do better then the Val vs turrets. Before the Wolvers got nerfed too death I found the Val handy for dealing with them in low hp clutch moments (unfortunately not an issue anymore).
Calibur is useless, just get an elemental brandish.
Not kidding
Both the Valiance and the Supernova have 3-round clips.
I used the defender shield line along with my blaster/ calibur all the way through FSC. yes there are better weapons and such but they both work rather well style-wise for most any situation.

@Ironskullkid
I am sooooo PROUUUUUD OF YOUUUUUUU!!!!!!!! :D :D :D srsly i m
So they aren't that good for a sidearm? Okay...... :(
On a side note, is the Sentenza range and speed supposed to be the same as Antigua? Because mine is. o.o
Thanks for the comments guys!
@Ironskullkid
I'm assuming the shock doesn't spread easily and that the AoE damage doesn't stop non-shocked monsters, right?
@Bluescreenofdeath
What if the target was still alive? Guess it's probably a matter of practice or a lag-positioning issue then. Piercing sword? If there was a 5* normal type of toothpicks, I wouldn't be using other swords =D (well.....maybe not, but still,)

You mean, that you like the way the piercing swords work, but you wish that they did normal damage? You don't like doing extra damage to the right monsters?
Nubskills, you should really consider the loadout of piercing sword with elemental gun. The gun is great against constructs and undead. The sword is great against fiends and beasts. The sword is also quite good against gremlins --- nearly as good as shadow swords are. The gun is perfectly adequate against slimes. The sword can also be used well against undead. It's just a really solid combination.
My free to play alt uses a troika -> sudaruska. I love it. After going through the game getting all the best gears and whatnots, I have to say using normal damage makes it a bit more fun. But that is just my opinion.
What I am saying is pure preference and NOT what is the best / what you should do. I am just saying that I have had fun with a troika on my f2p guy and I am going to upgrade it to sudaruska and treasure it. If you want to use a calibur / prefer the calibur over the troika, same deal. Just preference.
If you are going to go troika (its charge attack is awesome for crowd control), then I would pair it with a flourish since most piercing weak enemies are easier to pop with the flourish mechanics. Otherwise, when the third weapon slot opens up (hallelujah) and you can afford to keep it up, I suggest an elemental gun.
@Bopp
Of course, I like type damage heaps, but I'm really familiar and fond of the way toothpicks work; it's fast with good damage, has a potentially longer reach and also has a wide arc for a first swing. I've pretty much mastered the style, plus I find it very fun to use for me. Yep, I've tried that loadout on an alt, a 2* elemental alchemer takes a while even with T1 slimes. Definitely having to upgrade that lol. I guess I'll try and master the brandish type swings more for swords next.
@The-Rawrcake
Fun? Ah, I love that stuff! Yeah, heavy swords can be pretty fun lol. i'm not too familiar with its charge, it seems harder to get used to, like dropping a calibur charge in front of you, I'm guessing. Flourish and DA seems nice too, DA has a great crowd control charge =3
I was considering cobalt weapons loadout mainly for my alt only, since it's a cheap option, and I'd want to try out more stuff using it. Ah well, looks like I'm better off with type-gear, thanks for the advice, guys. :P
Eh, correct me if I'm being rude, but why make alts? Nothing is different between knights, except tier access, mission availability, and equipment. All of which is easily duplicated on the main knight. Run some of those profitable floors, buy the brand spanking new equipment of a lower tier, and go run those low tiers.
Yea, some people have alt accounts, but not alt knights on the same account.
I would honestly prefer that you guys use a CIV rather than a levi.
The extra knockback from levi is extremely annoying, and you at least get more shots in with a CIV + a damage bonus in FSC.
The Undead Bonus will not apply vs the Duke though, leaving it way underpowered compared to the Levi. Just lean out to use the charge respectfully & its not an issue. I take a Levi into FSC, but it rarely gets used for anything but the mask.
The CIV is not really a great sword for FSC which is ironic given its item description:
"A powerful cold iron blade forged for the singular purpose of hunting down and destroying the undead."
Why is this thing not pure elemental?
Well it's not like your party needs the extra damage anyway, more than likely you'll be able to make up for it with two other people wailing at his face...
@Demonicsothe
Yeah, you have a good point there. There's two main reasons that I made an alt account, one of them being that I usually do so on other games to re-experience the fun of being a newbie again, which can be kinda pointless, as you pointed out, and to try new gear without influencing the main account, currently being my only main reason. Sure, this only works if one of those accounts is a paid account, so I'll try and see if I can find a way to buy the DLC. Otherwise, I'd just keep it around for when i've got some spare mist to burn on alt's missions.
@Neodasus
I noticed that the calibur charge only works without knockback when enemies are cornered, not including if you pin them to a wall for a charge, since they fly out to the side. Wailing? Damn, I feel like WHB now :/

@Ironskullkid
Nein nein nein nein....
@Demonic :: Eh, correct me if I'm being rude, but why make alts?
On a diff. account w/o an ele pass, ppl make F2P characters cause its harder etc and they get bored. S/he never said s/he makes his/hers on the same account.
If Imma make a hipster alt... I would feel quirky on a guy that has, for example not that I do, like vog + skolv + snarbolax to all of a sudden start wearing radiant silvermail and dragon scale helm and jello shield for everything? nah, that'd just feel wierd. not true hipster.
Haven't you been posting in these forums for a while, Nubskills? So don't you know the answer to these questions? In case you're serious...
Yes. General-purposeness is the point of these weapons. They are normal damage, with medium speed and some knockback for easy defense. In addition, the Calibur charge attack is actually really powerful against stationary enemies (and enemies stuck in corners). Make sure you have auto-aim on, I think.
However, as soon as you're handling two swords, then neither of them should be normal. As soon as you're handling two guns, neither of them should be normal. In fact, even with just one sword and one gun, you should arguably make them two different non-normal damage types. For example, try a piercing sword with an elemental gun, or a shadow sword with an elemental gun. More details are here.
I don't know Supernova well, but it and Polaris have insane amounts of knockback. This is useful for defense, but it's hard to use well in parties, and it can lower DPS by knocking targets out of range. Calibur's charge can also be hard to use in parties.
