I have tried to create a custom texture in spiral-spy, but it crashes when it attempts to load any texture that has been altered at all!
I have literally made 1 pixel red on a helmet, loaded it, crash. Is there anyway to load custom textures?
Spiral spy help?
This is what happens when you support a five year old who puts little to no thought into his posts thinking he's a troll.
This ISN'T for in-game use
This is for spiral-spy use. Fanfic/comic/general scenes stuff. Trust me, I've already gotten in trouble with GM's before; I don't want to do it again.
I only ask this cause I have seen PLENTY of custom textures used in spiral-spy before, yet I cannot get it to work.
Also, @Canned-Bread, Is this about Pow?
Yes because he is obviously an idiot, not a troll, and real trolls make smart ass comments designed to piss people off while he is just pissing people off with pure stupidity.
And regarding the topic, try GIMP. It edits textures pretty well. And it's free.
Yet again, missing the point of my question
I already HAVE several custom textures. But attempting to load them in spiral-spy causes it to crash. I want to know if there is a way to load a custom texture without crashing spiral-spy.
No, customize them within spiral spy
From my experience, textures I edited with GIMP do not crash spiral spy. Many well known spiral spyers use GIMP for retexturing. There you go.
Is everyone missing the point? If the texture goes into spiral-spy AT ALL it crashes! it isn't bloody possible to make custom textures in spiral-spy!
Here, I will tell you what I wish to do.
I want to make a Fanfic with a few spiral-spy pictures. I found Cherub's (Ian, created alot of spiral-spy artwork) Helmet in the files. It appears to be broken (as it is supposed to) and I wanted to fix it. I did via custom texture, But now I cannot view it in spiral spy, because, as I have mentioned before, Attempting to load a custom texture in spiral-spy causes a crash. I have seen the use of custom textures several times in Spiral-spy, so I know it is possible, I just want to figure out how.
MOST LIKELY the SK textures are in a specific format, and whatever application you used (like Bread said, try GIMP -- it has a horrendous interface but good format support) to edit them didn't re-save them with the exactly correct details.
OR on the other hand, spiral-spy is just a wrapper for code in the SK distribution. there's the possibility ooo has updated and broken it
OR there could be some CRC checking going on or something, i really don't know
the community seems too terrified to give any straight answers about this sort of thing, the devs sure aren't going to tell you, and good luck tracking down the spiral-spy guy -- you're probably on your own, buddy
For chrissake just give it a try with GIMP and come back and we'll see what went down.
Just try!
Just try, do you understand?
You haven't tried using a GIMP edited texture and you still wont?

Jim Dale had this problem.
Jim Dale fixed this problem.
Jim Dale forgets how.
Also Photoshop.
The community here isn't exactly mod-friendly (to this extent, as you have seen). Sorry.
I remember there's another fan forum somewhere...
And to answer your question: Maybe paint the original texture red instead of replacing it with a 1px texture. Reading on how Minecraft HD texture mods work, I think the texture size cannot be messed with without some recoding of the game (which is an absolute no-no here!)
Perhaps it is a very specific on how it must be saved. I will try GIMP. I have not edited the size of the texture.
EDIT: GIMP didn't work either.
Retexturing is not hard at all. Just remember to back up your game files and copy the original texture. Then you edit the texture in the SK game files. Simple as that. Here's an example of my retexturing work. You just overwrite the modified texture with an original one when you're done. By the way: I use Gimp.
And no, Treasure Vault is keen for Spiral Spy modders like Happyapathy or me. Don't hesitate to visit us. If you need any more help just PM me at olaf240@vp.pl.
I have no trouble re-texturing. what I do have trouble with is loading them in spiral-spy. It crashes every time i load a custom texture!
Hold on...
Here is my retexture (with original) and everytime I load it into spiral-spy, it crashes. any custom texture loaded crashes spiral-spy. I REALLY hope I don't have to say that again.
I'm guess that its because the texture didn't fit the model.
@Awesomesock, I did, and now it crashes when it attempts to load the model. I fixed it by reverting back to original texture
@Dukeplatypus, It is the exact same borders as the original.
Just idly browsing, not an authority on the matter; but I notice that the original has a bit depth of 8 where your version is 32-bit. Prior experience with RPG makers suggests this could cause issues, so maybe save your edited version with 8-bit color depth and give it a go.
The 8-bit thing was the problem!
Now that the problem is solved, I can make cool scenes.
Here's one using my custom texture: The white knight.
Doubt it. Just uninstall and reinstall. You get all the original textures back and you can stop tempting the wrath of the GMs
