What control set-up do you use?

Personally i do all my moving with the asdw. I have attack mapped to the right mouse click, and F. Sometimes i find it more responsive to press F for the 2nd/3rd hits of combos, especially if i've been playing a while (also my mouse is cheap, lol). And then guard mapped to J, and the mouse left click.

I don't have any desire to use the mouse left click to run, so i found it very useful to make it my guard. Also, using X to guard when using asdw to move is awkward for me.

Lastly, the other reason i have attack and defend mapped additionally to f and g is because i play on a laptop, so sometimes it's nice to not use the mouse at all, or when i go back to haven to lean back on my couch and not use the map (so F will also talk to people).

I need to map my potion/vial spots to something more useful than 1 2 3 4.

Or....i need to use an xbox controller so i can move like a gazelle, destroying everything in my path like the beast that i am
:D :D :D

Like you, I find it a lot

Like you, I find it a lot easier to move with the ASDW combo that's become the standard for most 3D games (on desktop computers, at least). I found it cumbersome to keep using the right-click to attack with, so I moved attack to the left mouse-click (allowing me to spam a much-more-natural-feeling flurry of strikes by left-clicking). I swapped the move-forward button over to the right-click on the mouse.

Aside from that, I haven't changed much. I do have a game controller, but as it's one of those SNES retro things refitted for USB (intended for emulators), it doesn't translate well to 3D. I tried it, and the response isn't great, so I never use it.

I do think that if anyone is honestly still controlling their characters the way the in-game tutorial instructs you, I'd like to give them a bow of respect. Moving with left-click and attacking with right-click becomes a recipe for "OWIE finger syndrome" right-quick. But, yeah .... the tutorial should make it clear that ASDW is an option from the get-go. Maybe even show some preference for it. It's much easier.

hi im different

I use the mouse when I move. Using the keys in different directions makes the head look weird and awkward. Plus, I have a free hand to block.

Okay, no offense, but this is HONESTLY something you see as an equal consideration to ease and efficiency of actual gameplay? :/

And as far as having a "free" hand to block .... nobody has to give up a hand just because they're navigating with the keyboard. The exact reason that the WASD method is so prevalent in computers games is precisely because it positions your left hand in the best spot possible to reach a lot of useful adjacent keys. If I need to block, I simply move with my mouse again, or remap the block key to something more natural to hit. *shrug*

default

i use the default for attack (blame it on playing too much DotA on Warcraft III) and x for shield, but ive moved all my potions to asdf so its right next to my shield and my left click moves me

Note: If you are NOT using

Note: If you are NOT using WASD to move, and your mouse to aim, and your mouse to both block and attack, you are officially playing far worse than you could be and will affect whatever team you are with negatively.

i used to use WASD, mouse

i used to use WASD, mouse attk + block. but then i found how friendly this game is using a controller, and then i've never looked back.

Yea like Magnus said you

Yea like Magnus said you should be using WASD to move and the mouse to block and aim it provides the best way to react to blocking and attacking at the same time... easy to kite too

I can't play this game on my laptop, but I think that's the only situation where you might not use WASD to move and mouse for attack/block. Or maybe if you're left handed, that might change things a bit (but I think the arrow keys work the same way so maybe not)

I use a Wii Classic

I use a Wii Classic Controller Pro plugged into my PC with an Adapter, and I have the gamepad buttons configured in such a way to sort of resemble how one would play an SNES game. I use the Keyboard for chatting and to use the mouse & pointer to access everything else.

WASD to move, Space to block,

WASD to move, Space to block, q/e for weapon switching, right click for attack. Tab is Lock Interface.

Left click is still move, use it rarely.

I tried picking up a game controller for this but the analog sticks are in square boxes so it tends towards moving in straight diagonals rather than being analog. (logitech dual action)

I'd say use whatever you find comfortable. I know one or two people who use the default keyboard layout still and get by alright.

I use arrow keys and z/x

I use arrow keys and z/x unless I'm using a gun, then I use wasd+mouse.

Less uncomfortable I guess.

I use a 360 wireless

I use a 360 wireless controller. Movement and attacks are so smooth and easy.... dodging, kiting, everything is better by miles. This game was made for the controller. Also more comfortable. Also quicker to use your vials (they're mapped to the dpad)

I wonder if anyone uses my control scheme

I use w, a, s, d keys to move
left click to shield
right click to attack
and spacebar to change weapons
number keys/clicking to activate consumables.

Anyone know what the middle mouse button does?

I use WASD to move, and I

I use WASD to move, and I only changed left-click to attack and right-click to shield. This leads to many confusions when others tell me to right-click something when I just started playing =P

I'm considering on using my gamepad to play. Is it really as comfortable as it sounds? I never liked the squares on my Logitech Dual Action.

Dual analog baby! Movement

Dual analog baby! Movement controls on the left stick, facing controls on the right, L1 and R1 to rotate weapons, L2 block, R2 attack, D-pad for vials. Yeah, this game was made for a controller.

Raul
Just use a ps3 or 360

Just use a ps3 or 360 controller as a gamepad, just make sure you get the proper driver for your OS.

Yes having everything be left click as right click is very annoying.

I have not yet encountered a game pad that the Linux kernel doesn't pick up immediately, no driver hunt required.

I use guns very often, about

I use guns very often, about as much as sword-and-shield tactics. The mouse is essential to me, and so is movement. Shield keys on the keyboard slows my response as a consequence of my finger not already being there. And moving forward with the mouse is pointless, as I maneuver with the keyboard.

That being said, and as Magnus noted, WASD to move, left click to attack, right click to block is the best way to go for me. Blocks at the tip of your button, fast response with attack and minimal effort to reach any of the keys, if any at all.

I use a 360 pad. L1 and R1

I use a 360 pad. L1 and R1 are defend and attack respectively, R2 cycles weapons forward, and L2, Y, B and A are for quickslots 1-4. Left analog to move (does not change facing) Right analog changes facing. Start, select and the digital pad are not mapped. My only regret is that it makes aiming a gun very difficult. It makes using a shield one hundred times easier in compensation.

Mouse to move and face SHIFT

Mouse to move and face
SHIFT for alternate target locking
D for attack
S for shield
A for strafe
SPACE or Scroll wheel for changing weapons
Sort of modified Taiwanese controls.

In any case, shouldn't it be up to each player what controls/controllers to use?

I see what you did there...

Appreciate this thread as I was having issues blocking with "x" and I think left mouse might be exactly what I need.

PS3 Controller L1 shield, L2

PS3 Controller

L1 shield, L2 auto target, R1 attack, R2 weapon change, D-pad items. Gives me a very natural animation cancel rhythm with my fingers when fighting. Only thing mouse has better over the setup is gun targeting, in which case I use PS3 Controller + mouse.
