As of yesterday, I now have every gunner armor and every 5* guns. That was pretty much my only motivation to keep playing SK, gameplay-wise anyway. I'm heating the last few to level 10 passively over this week, but after that I've kinda run dry of ideas.
I was thinking of collecting shields, but I already have APS, Dread, grey, crest, and aegis and I've had enough of mindless crafting of mediocre items. I guess I could play more LD, but that tende to get irritating pretty quickly.
so, what do you guys think I should do? I guess I could take some requests to do runs with fraps or something. I'm asking for some advice.
I'm bored, help me set a new goal.
You're missing over 2/3 of the items of the game...
As amazing as it sounds, those dogs you see all the time in Haven use these things called "Swords" that let you smack someone point-blank. There are also these little things called "bombs" that explode in bright lights.
You should try some of them!
I have my warhammer and I have my shiver and DR, and I'm perfectly satisfied with that. Obviously I prefer guns and that's my expertise. If I can get by more than fine with just guns, I don't see a reason to pick up an entirely different skillset, complete with new sets of specialized armor, and weapons, just yet. I'm looking for advice that I can do with the (rather extensive, if I may say) equipment that I have, not just more mindless FSC runs to heat 3 more copies of the same set and do more tedious crafting.
Edit: made less precocious. Sorry, it's late and latency in grinding for coins in LD gave me a headache
So what you are saying is... You are bored of SK gameplay wise, but you don't want to start a new playing style?
I'm not saying buy a full Skolver, Vog, Volcanic Demo, and Mad Bomber set, followed by 4+ 5* Swords and bombs. You seem to think that there are only extremes, pure sword, pure bomber, or pure gun. IMO, restricting yourself to just one weapon type is one of the worst ideas possible. I was more suggesting (in a probably unnecessarily rude way) to try some hybrid builds, because gunning is only a portion of SK gameplay.
I picked up bombing by making a Lightning Capacitor and a CTR low bomb trinket. I didn't make a full demo set in an afternoon (in fact, I still haven't made one...).
I'm a gunner, and to me, this bomb was like discovering a brand new gun. It's a little tricky to get used to, but once you get comfortable with it, it has a longer range than any gun and short-burst capabilities like an autogun. Obviously it's best with bomber gear, but it works just fine without. Plus, it's only 4*, so it's easy to make!
I'd also suggest building a party to go do a Shadow Lair. The cost of admission is very steep, but the edge is taken down a little with four people paying... and the gameplay is AMAZING. They live up to their reputation.
Aaand of course there's always charity. You can meet all kinds of interesting people hanging out in Haven, offering help with missions. I've met some of my best friends on SK that way.
Well. Not much in terms of equipment. You don't want gear from other styles, and I'm assuming you don't want family or defence only armour. So all you got left is chaos set, if you don't already.
And you make f2p sound dirt poor or something. If resource is a limiting factor for someone who does buy ce, you might as well play the 3* versions in T2 for the fun of it.
Except that I have tried other playstyles though, hence why I even made a shiver in the first place (doesn't help that I'm pretty subpar with it, though). I've integrated the hammer into most of my loadouts now because I enjoy the change of pace by smashing and dashing around recklessly instead of the typically more careful gunning tactics and I'd like to say that I've gotten quite good with it. Hell, I'll even pick up DR every now and then to do some offensive bombing. If I was going to make myself another sword, I'd probably get myself a btb because I need a better source of fast piercing damage.
This isn't exactly new, exciting territory for me anymore, hence why I'm asking for some help.
And, erm, sorry f2pers if I sound a bit precocious, I just feel like I've put my share of money into the game and I'm reluctant to put any more in when the best reward I can get right now is a party hat or a barely visible aura.
Meh. So make some gameplay vids. Or run some depths with static flash/firecracker/cold snap. Or someother various useless weapons.
Or dive into the madness we call auction house and learn to make a profit off of it.
Really though. Bombs are extremely diverse. You won't play a vortex the same way as a haze, nor a rss the same way as a vortex.
Edit: Yea, that note about limited funds irks me. It's almost a given for every player that some amount of grinding is required to make equipment. You putting it out there is like complaining in mcd about not being able to afford a meal set while the kid behind you only has enough for fries.
Alright, I guess I'll try some more bombs, then. What's the closest mob in this game to a dodongo? Should I try rss, nitro, or a vortex first? And when will they make bombastic less ugly?
An electron vortex first. It lets you combo with your guns, setting up clumped enemies.
I would go rss next, rushing it to 4*. Rather cheap, as equipments go.
Bombastic... is fine as is. Unless you speak of its aesthetics. A vh damage set gives bombers more options and variety.
It's a little... phenomenon, that I personally muse about as a spiral's depression.
From what I've observed in most fellow players (and have experienced myself):
Once one completes their 'endgame,' whether by defeating x with factors y and z or collecting all of n, the player feels lost as to what to do, and thus begins a decline of interest in the game for a fairly long downtime; or until an applicable content update rolls by.
It's not unusual to begin finding yourself casually logging on for small things or to just chat with guildies, for awhile.
If I get to the point, which bombing gear would you recommend? I was thinking chaos stuff would work pretty well with what I've got planned.
Chaos would be fun; if not, Merc Demo is sort of fun [despite it not doing anything].
Chaos would be a good bridge gear, as it benefits your guns as well. But if you really want to get into bombing, you'll go with the demo suits. Chaos doesn't give the ctr before 5*, and that's a lot of investment.
As for a full bomber set, a volc/mad hybrid works very well. You'll get max ctr on heated bombs, and 2 damage trinket boost your damage to max. Or you can be a daredevil, use full mad, and just one damage trinket with a penta. I don't think the +6hp will save you from the extra weakness, but I really havn't paid attention to it. So volc/mad is most likely better, as you will have positive fire resist, without adding more weakness as a 2nd mad bomber piece would have.
@espy of course I'll stay around to be social with the great friends and guildmates I've got here! You guys are awesome and I'd get never get bored of y'all :P
@demonic I think I'll stick with chaos for the hybrid right now. Wont be too much of an investment since I've had my eye on it for a while, searching for an excuse to make it. I'm not all that confidant in my bombing just yet, but I'll consider demo suits later down the road (probably wont be anytime soon when I try full bomber, though). I'm experimenting here to try find a new niche, not starting from scratch.
in the mean time, I guess I'll be grinding some more LD for the 300 coins I'll need for electron vortex. Hell, might as well get a voltedge while I'm at it; complete the shock set and get a 3-swing sword. Fortunately, I seem to be playing much better now that I've switched out magma for storm. Shock is such a fun troll XD
Chaos set is a good transition, but beware of ANY statuses.
The RSS is good for going from Guns to bombs, so put that in there... and its cheap. :D good for us F2Pers.
Most bombing is in a group, or at least, I love my bombers to be in a group with me. Why? Because poison and stun just feel so right. Because that shiver can save your life on occasion. Because that Vortex maxes out my Suda's DPS. Because that BAB throws that jelly hoard FAR away. Bombers are mostly crowd control and debuff, which is AMAZING in a team. Good teams will thank you for bombing.
You can DPS as a bomber, but they are MEANT for crowds. Its damage is like this... 200*HowEverManySuckersAreInSideTheLine, which gets pretty big.
After you get that transition to bombing, the last step... is swords... But lets not go from guns to winmillion... its not the best. Instead, lets go from bombs, to the bomb sword: the Troika line. The charge is essentially a Slightly smaller, more damaging, surprise, insta-bomb. With controllable Knockback. Neato huh? From there you can go fro that faster Sealed sword lines, and then a brandish for even faster speeds. After that all that's left is the Flourish to slaughter fiends, and the DVS for breakneck speeds.
Anyways, thats what I'd suggest... I'm a gunner/swordy hybrid, and using the Suda since forever helps me slip right into the bomber role. (Go stagger storm... once i Get CE!!!)
Not only am I famous, but I inspire Hipster...ness... Yeah.

@Tsubasa-No-Me
- if you poison everywhere, I'll look at you as an almost dead weight. There are only few instances where poison is actually useful : against healers, against Duke if you pair it with a Shiver, and on a Shock/Fire arena paired with Shock or Fire bomb
- if you freeze, I'll hate you for preventing the knockback of my sword and preventing shield bumps (tho this one is up to preference, some people actually like freeze, mainly beginners)
- if you stun, I'll totally hate you for screwing up my dodging timing and causing some instant attacks from mobs (I don't think this bug as been fixed)
- if you use BAB, I'll ragequit for using an imprevisible highknockback weapon.
All that to say, I don't agree with your statement "Bombers are mostly crowd control and debuff". I see bombers as very effective against crowds. The Shock+Fire combo decimates crowds. Vortex (I like this one) let's you clear things in cooperation with swordies like no other. DBB tears through beasts levels. RSS can OS zombies.
@frakow stagger storm and stun in general are much more useful in their benefits than to be totally discredited by one bug. unless you're fighting mecha knights or vana, which would probably be the only exceptions, you should have no problems dodging any mob's close range melee attack since they don't home anymore. also, you have a shield. use that.
although I do agree about venom veiler. poison is a bit underwhelming outside of fights with menders and such. Its annoying on you, but mobs dont really seem to mind and there are other sources of poison (DVS, Bio, Plague).
@Tsu I've been using the hammer as my smashy smashy slow weapon, quite fun. I like the charge's damage, but it's generally much more fun to troll people by pushing them across the level. I am... not the best person as a support role. i'm pretty bad as mist bombers go, so i think i'll stick with transitional weapons like RSS and then get a vortex (maybe the other way around). I'm going for a BTB in particular because i quite like my snarble barb.
Aww, but then I don't keep all the fancy effects that the 5*s have :-/
try grabbing the best UVs as you can, on EVERYTHING (maximum and very high in perfect matches like undead on elemental weapons).
