Is the Troika line good?

I've been hearing that the Troika line is too slow and isn't really good, I'm planning to get the Triglav as one of my Tier 5 weapons. I've already got the recipe for the Grintovec.

I've got the Snarble Barb as my second weapon, me and my friends usually go together. One of us is Swordsman, the others a Gunslinger, ect. I'm in the middle of Dusker and have no trinket/extra weapon slots.

Should I continue or stop and choose another line to work with?

stop

You're using a piercing sword and a normal sword? Then stop the normal sword. Replace it with an elemental sword or a shadow sword.

(As soon as you're carrying more than one sword, then you don't really want any normal sword in there; your swords should be of distinct non-normal damage types, to deal huge damage to a wider variety of monsters. For details, see my sword guide.)

mmm

The Troika lines are like having a decent charge Vs. one foe, but gets FAR better with more victims.

But yeah, the combo sucks right now....

Keep in mind that the Troika lines are mostly support/crowd control. Which can be great, you can easily save a gunner or bomber from encroaching doom... ;D

You might like to have that snarble barb as an alternative to the slowness that is a Troika, so that may help...

Keep in mind... when the troika hits 4*, its dash on the charge attack gains distance, and you really can tactically nuke a group. Its awesome. :D

Not only am I famous, but I inspire Hipster...ness... Yeah.

Compared to other normal

Compared to other normal swords, the troika line isn't bad anymore, but still, there's rarely a reason you'll want to use it. If you just use Polaris and Barbarous Thorn Blade, you'll be able to take care of ANY enemy type.

while Batabii isn't wrong

he isn't right, either.

Yes, you would be able to perform passably well, spamming a Polaris is a great way to annoy your party, knock enemies all over the place and generally make life harder for yourself. Also, while RJP would certainly be possilbe using just a Polaris (because lets face it, I know of one person who did JK with BTB) it is making life needlessly complicated. If you follow Batabii's advice, you are essentially doing neutral damage to 2 types of enemies (slime/gremlin) with Polaris, and strong against construct/undead. Now, should you have to get up close and personal with either type of elemental weak enemy, you are a dead knight. Trapped in a corner? Forget it. You are food. That BTB will save you against wolvers, gremlins and devilites, but as for the other three types, there isnt enough knockback to help out.

Bopp says it pretty well: get a sword of each type, and a gun of your choice. I'd say polaris for swordie sidearm for the convenience of puppy killing.

Versus neutral enemies, the

Versus neutral enemies, the Troika line's FIRST slash is stronger than the Sealed Sword lines'. Its second slash isn't too much stronger and also puts you in vulnerable ending lag (made worse by it being slower than the Sealed Swords). Due to this, the Troika playstyle is more of Slash1-shieldcancel. The Sealed Swords can more safely use both attacks.

There isn't really much reason to NEED a Troika (or any Normal weapon), but it IS a fun alternative if you prefer heavy swords and are pressed for a weapon slot.

In its earlier form, Khorovod (the then-max-level Troika) was the most fun/useful when spamming charge attacks. After a long time being 'nerfed', they made the charge attack stronger again, so IMO it's more fun with its charge being spammed as a 'boom stick', as one of my friends called it way back when.

ok fine instead of polaris

ok fine instead of polaris say nova driver. My point is all it takes is two different typed weapons to cover everything.

Sounds like a solid plan

For most of my time before I was able to do tier 3, I used a Dark Thorn Blade and a Troika variant (Kamarin/Khorovod for a while, then Grinto/Jalovec later.)

It will take some getting used to if you haven't used a Troika before, but it's not a bad plan.

Having a reasonably quick piercing sword that will work on all of the fast enemies at least passably well, and a heavy slow one that's decent against everything should do fine for you, and be good support for your teammates.

Just don't forget that your goal with the troika is to support and don't get too aggressive with it and you should be fine.
The biggest weakness to the troika line right now is pretty much how vulnerable it makes you if you get greedy with the main attack combo.

That being said, a Combuster will probably go farther for simply doing well in levels than the Suda/Triglav. You'll still have every enemy type covered at least for neutral damage, and you'll have a strong weapon for 4/6 enemies, and a pretty powerful elemental attack to boot.
You can always get a shadow weapon later if you're just looking at having two swords to start out for tier 3.

Judging from my experiences...

I have been using Troikas for a long time now (I even had Sudaruska as my main sword), so I dare say; it IS a good series. Although it struggles to be a knight's primary weapon, it is best suited as an side-arm for most Gunslingers and Bombers (at least).

If you plan to use only one sword and other weapons of choice, you'd want to go for Normal-damage swords for versatility (such as Leviathan Blade). If you plan to use more than 2 swords however, you might want to get Specialized-damage swords instead, to cover specific damage types (regarding Bopp's opinion).

To me, perhaps the strongest aspects of a Troika is its charged attacks (powerful knockbacks; decent reach; ability to damage multiple enemies). Even then, it is still outclassed by the Sealed series, most specifically Divine Avenger, which is basically triple the carnage (otherwise known as the three-penetrating-sword-like-projectiles-of-doom)... Although it had its faults, such as the "projectiles-behind-the-weapon" gimmick, which is also seen in the Blaster series.

Overall, I believe the Troika series is a good one, although it is outclassed by the other series (Sealed; Brandish; etc.), in terms of general usage. If you felt that the Sealed series is out-of-reach for you, perhaps the Troika series will serve as an alternative.
