Prestige Badge Information
/Pats Spectrum
I'd have probably made that mistake too.
You aren't going to get the last badge anytime soon, at 45000 points. Keep throwing your 5* equipment, and in four months maybe you will get it!
Keep throwing your 5* equipment
Only you could think of doing something so foolish for a crest, and expect it even when the prestige system hasn't been fully fleshed out yet.
Me? Hahaha, of course, I would spend money on a virtual free to play MMO. Right. Do you know me? No, keep walking and don't hit anything on your path.
You are making my day, keep it up.
XDDD AHAHAHA THEN WHY ARE YOU WHINING ABOUT SPENDING BAGS OF MONEY FOR PRESTIGE AHAHAHA XDDDD!!!!11!!!1oopsIswallowedmyowntongue!
Right. Do you know me?
This has nothing to do with anything you windbag, and no one cares. I may not know you, but you don't know anything at all.
I know that I am having such a good time right now, but I feel bad for the people who spends money to this game right now.
And you seem to care so much you keep replying to me. : )
but I feel bad for the people who spends money to this game right now.
And just how do you know that the P2Ps are spending money just to get prestige? Oh, the irony:
Right. Do you know me? No, keep walking and don't hit anything on your path.
And you seem to care so much you keep replying to me. : )
Oops! Didn't read again! I said no one cares about who or what you are.
So, you know all P2Ps? My, you are certainly a person who knows a lot of people.
Thanks for caring so much about me to keep replying. : )
Well, then I may be talking to a wall. In fact, I better go talk to one instead.
Yeah why don't you do that? You'll have a lot more in common.
Alumir, please be more reasonable.
If people want to do the prestige missions, why do you laugh at them? Not everyone submits 5* weapons, many buy the supply packs, and many do the other things when they're easy. Getting to 45k prestige points eventually will happen for many without having to submit weapons.
How they spend their ce or mist (because it can all be done with mist) is up to them. You don't need to be so unreasonable.
Calm down. Have some irish cream with chocolate chips. It has whiskey in it.
Also, I think I'm actually going to bother with the Prestige now. Except, I won't ever do the equipment turn-in. It's just not worth the cost.
Oh, sorry Sypsy, I didn't mean that. If you see, Arms apropiation missions give something like 300 points, while the other ones give max 180 points. So, if you wanted to be one of the people who was "most prestigious", you would have to spend a lot of money for it. For an... icon.
You see, this game has much potential, but OOO isn't making, at least in my opinion, what they could for this game and its fanbase in some matters that could be much better, somehow. 1st anniversary? Cake hats. Prestige points? Icons. I know I am not a dev, but really, couldn't anything else be done?
And the question is, too: Will this game be alive, or hold enough population to be relevant, by the time those icons are given to someone? I am just worried about the game, that is all. Sorry for any misunderstanding.
Still, I would like to know how much money did the fanbase throw expecting something other than an icon.
People who do every prestige mission aren't doing it for some unspecified reward--they're doing it so that they can have a lot of prestige. Perhaps you're new to video/computer games, but generally people like to have high scores.
You know that guy who got over 1mil points in Donkey Kong? He wasn't being paid or rewarded for doing that, he just liked being the best and having a high score, like EVERYONE does.
Is it peer pressure? What's wrong with doing prestige missions? Please don't be hypocrites, if you're going to do them then do them lol. We don't need more of these guys playing SK!!
(it's the wallstreet protesters showing that even tho we hate Apple & other big shot companies & will continue to protest & do anti marches to bring them down & out of business, we'll continue/we'll be using their merchandise;ipod, iphone etc while complaining!)
That's right, I'm on my ipad reading the daily herald as i'm holding up signs of how apple should go out of business & that i get my job back.
Ehh, I've only spent around 10k CE on the prestige missions. :\ The shiny emblems are worth it, as they are like steroids for my e-peen. ^o^
I don't mind them. It's only after I give them stuff and they keep asking. Then it starts to get irritating. >.<
Prestige Points currently are nothing more than a CE, crown, material, mineral sink. Excluding the normal missions, the daily missions are just inefficient way to use up your energy while giving you less crowns. The giving materials, minerals, or gear is a way to covert valuable resources to worthless Prestige points.
The Prestige Badges are merely a "sucker" badge, or as Rangerwill puts it a "beggar magnet". If OOO really intended a badge for one to show how experienced one is at the game, you would get points for every run you did. If they wanted a badge to show how good one is in the game, it'd be based on stats for # of win/fail per level or number of deaths/revives, etc.
So the last badge is 45,000 prestige points, lets do some calculations. If I recall correctly, you get 300 points for a 5* item? 45,000 / 300 = 150. So that's 150 5* items needed. 5* items are worth 4,000ce on the supply depot I believe. 150 x 4,000ce = 600,000ce for 45,000 prestige points!
Lets take a look at the daily missions, I believe the average mission gives you 90 prestige points? 45,000 / 90 = 500 but there's two levels so you have to pay 20ce to get 90 points. 500 x 20ce = 10,000ce. So if you did daily missions after 500 days using 10,000ce you'd get the last badge. Also the time playing those levels? Lets say about half an hour to finish two levels.....500 x 0.5hrs = 250hrs.
Summary: 45,000 prestige points = 600,000ce or 10,000ce + 500 days + 250hrs play time.
Yeah of course the regular missions gave you more points, and you do get some crowns, minerals, materials and such along the way. Yes you could be using your daily ME instead of CE, but for rough calculations I think you see what this illustrates, and I think many would agree the amount of rewards doing those levels is not as good as farming FSC the whole time.
I don't think it's worth it, I may reconsider once OOO actually releases the "great bonus" you get for having more prestige. But until then, I'm not going to follow the carrot they're dangling in front of us.
You think it's worth it? Please backup how so if you do.
Prestige out the wazoo, but no new Achievments.
Why aren't I surprised?
It's something to do. Daily. KoA twice a day is boring.
There's a goal. Logical profitability has nothing to do with it.
How is doing anything in this game "worth it"? With the exception of trading CE for other games over Steam, every action in this game can be traced forward to a point where it does nothing beyond "you made some pixels on your screen display a little differently". There's no purpose to any mission beyond improving your resources, no purpose to improving your resources beyond improving your combat power, and no purpose to improving your combat power beyond being better able to do missions. . . .
Or an even better example: Lockdown. Why would anyone play it, following your reasoning?
@Sypsy
Okay, if profitability is put aside and you're argument is the daily missions are there to break up tedium.....having 4 or 5 different rotating daily scenarios doesn't get boring?
Why not have the normal missions repeatable allowing people to repeatedly get prestige points from them? I'm sure with a little re-writing of the mission text they could make all the regular missions seem repeatable. For example "Yet another Knight has fallen and is turning into a Trojan, go see if you can save him!" or "The gremlins have rebuilt their super weapon to take out haven, go stop them again!", etc etc.
This would vastly break up the tedium but they don't do it. Why not? Somehow I figure they don't want you repeating the more profitable missions and get prestige for it too. They could solve that too by making the reoccurring regular mission random each day, but they don't. Why not? Could it be that they only want us doing those 4 or 5 rotating daily scenarios only? Why do you think that is?
Giving up that 5* item or donating some cargo that's worth 4000+ crowns was put in because it's fun, right?
@Derpules
Some things are more worth it than others. It's not a black or white kind of thing, you can't make an argument saying either everything is worth it or nothing is worth it, that's a false dichotomy.
If you're comparing Lockdown with the prestige system, I would say there's much more benefits to lockdown than prestige right now.... unlockable recipes, materials, and such. And clearly people seem to think Lockdown is more "worth it" than the bomberman game.
It doesn't matter what you get when you finish a task, it's about how you benefit from it and how you enjoyed. If you are playing missions (or doing anything else at all) solely just for the rewards, you won't truly enjoy what's in store for you.
P.S. I don't mean to be boring and all by giving this basic moral education, but it's sometimes needed as a reminder to those who have forgotten.
IIRC, at one point the prestige missions were repeatable, kinda like the normal missions. I just don't think you got more prestige. Not sure why they made it so you could only do them once though.
Anyway, that aside, I think you're overthinking things.
Your argument that it could get boring after a few months of doing the same missions over and over is valid, but I'll take that over doing KoA daily. At least these missions rotate levels and are not predictable like the other missions or boss runs. If I do get bored of it in the future, I'll deal with it then. No need to plan ahead or anything.
Then, you can ask "Well why don't you do a normal clockwork run?"
Well personally, I only play ld, interact w/ ppl in haven and do a few runs here and there if I need to heat something. I like the prestige missions because they are bite size levels that are different from boss runs AND do not take up 1 whole hour to do. I can spare the 10 - 30 minutes (depending on whether I want to take it slowly or do a speed run) doing the prestige missions and then go do something else. Add the fact that you get a little number that ticks up as a goal as an incentive, and I'm not complaining.
These are solely my reasons, and I'm not going to impose them on you. There's no argument for me as to why YOU should be doing them.
If you don't see a reason to do them, then fair enough. The opportunity cost of your mist is too high to be spending it on low profitability levels. I just think it's unfair if you assume others who do not follow your logic are somehow playing the game wrong.
---
Oh, and they put in that 5* weapon thing because they want people who REALLY want the prestige to buy a weapon for 3.5K ce and then deposit it for prestige points. This will let them float to the top of the ranks more quickly than others over time. Obviously. For some people, this is okay.
---
And I play ld for enjoyment. Rewards? Psh.
I have no issues with people's playing style, if they rather play something that's fun to them but isn't profitable....that's fine. However my calculations and "is it worth it?" question is focused on the prestige point mechanics.
For example, if somebody finds doing the rescue camp mission over and over again fun, which of course is not profitable at all, I would be fine with that. However if OOO made the prestige mechanics to only award points to the rescue camp mission and nothing else so people would have to run the rescue camp over and over again....then I'd have a big issue with it.
The mechanics is dictating how you should play by only rewarding you for what it wants you to play. And what it currently wants you to play are not profitable missions and wanting you to give up valuable gear and such for points that have no meaning other than the recent prestige badges. The calculations shows that it's not worth it from anywhere remotely profitable....I don't even think you'd break even doing them. You brought up "fun", but the mechanics aren't even designed for that....as I said, if it was you'd get prestige points for re-doing the normal missions or the normal missions would get cycled into the daily rotation. So what conclusion could I possible draw other than they want to "sucker" you?
" I just think it's unfair if you assume others who do not follow your logic are somehow playing the game wrong."
I don't think I ever said people are playing the game wrong, you trying to use a straw-man argument? Anyways, the game definitely tells you you're playing the game wrong when you don't get rewarded prestige points for replaying normal missions. How come you don't find that unfair?
Prestige missions are non-profit? You're forgetting the people that have Elevator passes.
When these were added the amount of people who must have for some reason totally ignored the fact they had mail, or didn't see the section on prestige badges, and were asking 'What do these symbols next to people's names mean!?!' made me want to drown myself in Haven's fountain.
Thank you guys for making this, although if people find it hard to read their mail I doubt they'll come read this, still, I shall point them in this threads direction in future ^^

You do realize that the next ranking after 15k is 25k right? Afterwards it is a long grind to 50,000 for the final ranking (Vanguard symbol).
I know this because I'm around 17k
Don't give up on prestige yet, they said this would be the first prestige reward.
You got me there....I didn't think of the elevator pass. However I doubt they'd have a pass for roughly 500 days for the daily missions nor does the pass help with the give a 5* item or material missions.
But again, is the player doing the prestige missions for profit, fun, or merely to get 45,000 points for the last badge? I can understand that maybe it's a combination of all at the beginning, but I would imagine it wears pretty thin after awhile, say at 20,000 or 30,000 points. I would also think it's pretty insidious if OOO got somebody to pay for a elevator pass for roughly 500 days ONLY just to get the last badge.
For example, I'm sure there's probably a couple of people who gives themselves the arbitrary goal of "Having every craftable and token item at every * level in the game at once". But if OOO ever made that into an achievement, it would probably force people who do not want to have the blemish of not having all the achievements to try and get that. Don't you think there would be something a little lazy and unethical if they did put in an achievement like that? Don't you think Prestige points is kind of similar, "Do the same 4 or 5 missions for 500 days" or "Donate 600,000ce" to unlock achievement which everybody will see on your name.
Sure it's people's own decision if they want to do it, but for the game mechanics to actually encourage/force players to in such a lazy (and possibly unethical) way....doesn't sit well with me.
@Blitzwing: "You got me there....I didn't think of the elevator pass. However I doubt they'd have a pass for roughly 500 days for the daily missions nor does the pass help with the give a 5* item or material missions."
That's all I wanted to reply to just to show how little of a life I have. I have an elevator pass until July 16... 2013. So for me, any prestige mission is an opportunity to gain money and because I have a heat amp for a long while, I could probably just grind FSC to give away 4 and 5 star weapons without buying CE with $$$ and without buying the weapons from the supply depot. As far as statistics are concerned, I'm an idiotic outlier who decided to buy $150 of explorer packs in December (which would cost $750 right now).
As for the rest of your post, I do actually agree with you. The 45,000 prestige points for just a badge is a little ridiculous in my opinion.
I'm surprised no one has corrected the OP to call them "chevrons," which would be their correct term.
Yeah, probably more people than not, even those with the elevator pass, do the prestige missions for the badge instead of fun. I also doubt 99% of the playerbase that is actually doing prestige missions to get the badge will continue doing them after hitting the final badge.
Why are you saying it will take 500 days to get 45k Prestige? The highest-ranked Knights have around 15k now. Missions have been out for two months. Rank Missions and OCH total out to around 4700 Prestige. That means in two months they have gotten 10k Prestige from Prestige Missions ALONE. Even at a rough estimate it will only take them another six months, or ~180 days to get the extra 30k Prestige required to reach the final rank.
My elevator pass expires in November, a little more than six months from now. Where is your maths now?
@Malsvir-Branea
Your situation is a little bit different, you bought the explorer pack which was an extremely good deal at the time and which has been unmatched since so far. You got other benefits from the pack and didn't buy an elevator pass for the purpose of getting the last badge on the prestige system. I was merely illustrating how I doubted someone would get an elevator pass for the sole purpose of the prestige system, no offence intended on you.
@Spectrumized
I'm guessing when enough people reach the final badge, they'll just release more badges at higher points. The people who have already invested to the final badge will be forced to keep going since they've already invested so much before.
@Dirt
My "maths" was in post #24, where I took the average 90 prestige payout and divided 45,000 by it to get a rough amount of 500 days. I even comment it was a rough calculation that did not include the prestige from the normal missions. Maybe you missed that post?
So you're at about 15,000 points now after two months, and it'll take you another six months to get to 45,000. Just because you're already 33% of the way there doesn't mean the total investment of 8 months (243 days) by your calculation ever changes. Another 182 days (6 months) is worth it for a different looking badge? Maybe for you, but for me I want something more meaningful.
You do realize all OOO is trying to do is condition the players because OOO is being lazy, right? Ever hear of the Skinner Box?

Hover over your prestige number on the mission UI. It tells you when you get all the badges as well as what they look like.
