The claymore by definition is a large two handed sword, now I was thinking one day "How awesome would it be to have one of these"

Now being the sucker for big swords and such, I decided to find out what you guys think.

The basics are this: Takes 2 weapon slots (Due to two handed), Acts like a slightly faster, and wider slashing troika, and comes in many shapes.

Now obviously most people will say "This is essentially a troika upgrade" at this point, but there is more!

These are dropped by enemies who use them, depending on the tier, the stars on it will be different

EXAMPLE:
Tier 1: 1 Star
Tier 2: 2-3 star
Tier 3: 4-5 star

As for power options, I'm unsure on what to pick for the strengths, I do know however, that it will be normal damage, non-elemental if you prefer.

Thank you for taking some time to read this, and if you don't like this idea, please be easy on the criticism, as this is my first post/suggestion ever on this forum.

Uh, slots and hands aren't the same thing. Will the knight actually be WIELDING the sword with two hands? If so, will he be able to use a shield anyway?

Since you are new you should

Since you are new you should pick a picture. Go to forum preferences and hit edit.

Now as for two handed weapons most of the ideas have been shut down for good reasons. I'm too lazy to find links or type them in but if you search it they will come.

Although the concept of it using two weapons slots instead of weapon+shield slots is new as far as I'm concerned. That may make a difference.

I also suggest adding more details. If you have time find kentard's equipment thread. He is pretty thorough with his posts and you might get some thoughts on how to expand on your ideas

More details. and fixes

Alright so, I'm going to fix up a few things, but the 2 slot take up is still there, but instead it takes up 1 weapon and 1 sheild slot, to be realistic a shield cannot really be used with a 2 handed sword.

As for the shut down on the 2-handed idea, I can guess why

"This is just a slow sword with added things"

And it sort of is, but, instead of buying or making these, you find them off certain boss-type enemies, makes sense right?

As for the confusion on the "Would he be wielding it?" Yes the knight would, and even in town (It's not easy to just put one away) But as usual attacking will be disabled, and a new animation could be put, I.E: dragging the sword, or holding it on the shoulder.

Stats, I'd want to keep balanced on speed, and damage output.

The combo would be a 3-hitter, like normal swords, but much slower, the charges would be a great lunge, no extra effects/attacks, but it has a high damage output on it. The use of a gun would be almost none with one of these types equipped, because, where would the knight put said gun, unless this is Legend of zelda where it all fits in a convenient pocket? I kid on that on.

Anyways, that's about all the details I could think of, and I personally think this would be really cool just to see in game, and to use.

Thanks for taking time to read this, and remember, go easy on me when it comes to criticising.

Taking up two weapon slots was a better idea than taking up a weapon and a shield slot. Once you get to tier 3 and running Vanaduke you pretty much NEED a shield to survive. Also, I'm not a big fan on the idea that it would be dropped by enemies.

@ the two above

I see, well, I barely use mine.

So, only 2 weapon slots, that should be enough to keep people happy.

As for the enemy drops, it would make it so you'd have to find it instead of taking the easy way out of buying it.

Atleast, that's a good thing in my eyes, just saying.

Could be changed, could not be, just have to see how others react.

"Acts like a slightly faster, and wider slashing troika, and comes in many shapes."

If you want a faster troika, get a swifstrike shield. That way you swing faster and you maintain at least some sort of shield.
Besides it doesnt take extra slots and the swiftstrike buffs ALL your equipped weapons.

See, the idea may sound cool, but there are already better options in the game.

Well before this I had no idea about the "Swift strike" so you must put that into account.

As for the sheild, it'll be there, maybe have a new animation, and swords can be crafted from other large-slow swords?

This is all a work in progress idea at the time, but as I learn a bit more of this games newer or older items, I'm probably going to have a universally acceptable idea for the claymores.

I like it!

I like the idea of it, but i have a few questions. Would you be able to still block with it? If you could, would it be just a frontal block, or an all around like a normal shield? I think it should be really high damage and slow, but thats just my opinion. It could be a cool new addition.

not at OP but at others

Maybe the claymore could like as a shield and a sword.

So it would:
-take up the shield spot
-take up to weapon slots

I know this is complicated but it's the only thing i can think of.

If you had played a Monster Hunter series and used a great sword then you should know what i mean.

Dual wielding/two-handed swords again

This subject outdates the dinosaurs.

Every thread about dual wielding, healing weapons, pets, overpowered items, and removal of the energy system always sound like this.

Until you can introduce revolutionary new mechanics for the claymore so that it can be a viable substitute for the Troika/Calibur without recycling their mechanics, this is going to be a very hard idea to advocate.
That being said there's very little you can do with a claymore, and 2h wielding without a shield is out of the question.

You could have it as a 2-handed weapon with a shield; I believe Hexzyle has a thread for that.

Just my opinion. About weapon suggestions generally.

BTW, claymore is very uncreative name. It looks like copy/pasted from all those D&D rip-offs. Swords in SK aren't named after generic fantasy/real life swords. There's Cutter instead or sabre, Flourish instead of rapier, Brandish instead of long sword, Troika instead of... well I guess instead of claymore. So we already got it.

When suggesting new weapon don't think about real world or other games - stick closely to in-game mechanic and SK setting. For example once there was an idea to make a sword that increase a chance of coin/heart drop when used on bushes and other props. I'm not saying idea was actually good or really thought out, but at least it shows the way of thinking - you don't have swords that increase coin drops in real world, do you?
You don't start with name/look and then try to invent a function and mechanic. You start with function and mechanic and then, if you really have to, you can suggest its look and name. Unless, of course, you're suggesting spiffy reskins - in that case it's all about cool look and witty theme.

T2: Knight's Lance
T3: Warlord's Lance
