Spiral Knights existed long

Spiral Knights existed long before OOO was acquired by SEGA. They should be fine.

To be honest I believe all

To be honest I believe all the ce promos we've had this year are precisely because SEGA are in such a desperate position financially. 7.1 billion yen loss is nothing to scoff at.

I hope SEGA dies.

Hoping any of the older industry giants die is a sad thing really.

I don't care if they die or

I don't care if they die or not. I hope they make an innovative game to save them, rather than another rehash of sanic hedgehog. But if they die, it will be because they did not make an innovative game that sells, and it will be because they're being greedy. Times are changing, and they'd better hope to change with them. But thats just my opinion. I'm certain that a charmy the bee promotion would be welcomed by someone.

.....

As long as they don't revert to FPS games (I highly doubt this would happen) I will continue to buy their games.
Although I doubt I make much of a difference by myself xD

Sega is far from going out of business

To be honest, looking at the recent financial statements from the Sega-Sammy holding group online, Sega hasn't been doing that poorly. Remember, Sega does more than just video games, they also make electronic equipment, operate theme parks, and other things of that nature. They are fairly large, and it would take a lot for them to go under. Their current situation is no worse off than the late 1990's with the failure of the Dreamcast (many predicted Sega would tank back then).

Lets be honest though, if Sega goes under, OOO goes with it, as a subsidiary. As I suspect OOO is probably profitable as heck for Sega, they would most likely be sold off to another group as I'm sure OOO would be worth a very hefty sum to any other company.

However, none of this is likely at this time. Sega is a pretty flipping huge company, they can bide their time for some time till the consumer market improves, as it has already been doing over the past year for them. Yes their operating loss looks bad, but taken in quarterly financial statements, their loss has been shrinking.

Most likely, you will see a consolidated consumer game development list, and less risky new IPs. Aka, get ready for more "Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games", because they sell like hotcakes, and are fairly safe bets.

Finally, all the sales recently cannot be directly attributed to Sega having lost revenue recently. Holding Spiral Knights sales could not possibly generate enough income to cover all of Sega's costs. Most likely, the increased offers have been in response to our demand. We keep buying the neat accessories, they keep making them. I for one flipping love the wings and birthday stuff recently. It's not like they are charging us more for them, they are just added incentive to buy CE, which many would anyway.

Finally, the video game market as a whole is going through a rough period. There has been tons of consolidation recently, and many small studios going under. Unfortunately, this is the effect of a long term slowdown in world markets and is to be expected. When things start looking better, new start ups will come along and replace the failed groups. Welcome to the natural cycle of business. Death and Rebirth are as true in the video game business as it is with plants in spring and fall.

I would imagine if Sega dies,

I would imagine if Sega dies, it would sell off it's assets. Spiral Knights being an asset would probably be sold off to somebody else.

I agree with Fehzor, if Sega continues to make bad games and be greedy....then good if they die. If they make better games and become less greedy...then good if they survive.

Don't throw money blindly at companies hoping they'll make a better game.....they'll just take the easy lazy path of making a BIGGER Net to catch the money. What you want is for them to take the harder path of making a BETTER Net to catch the money, in other words a better game.

@ Coatl That is provided PSO2

@ Coatl

That is provided PSO2 doesn't suck, and they actually implement a GOOD F2P business model (Most companies that utilize a F2P business model do it rather poorly, and treat their customers like the tobacco industry treats theirs - expendable.)

That being said, I have high hopes for PSO2, I'm a big PSO fan, and I really wish them luck in bringing us a quality game we can all enjoy. Let's hope Sega of Japan and Sega of America don't drop the ball on localization like they did with Phantasy Star Universe and completely ignore their western subscribers.

Reversal?

Then, the question would be: what would happen if Sega stopped supporting this game to support their own product? Also, I can't wait for PSO2, wish the wait was shorter.

@ Aumir Sega does not need to

@ Aumir

Sega does not need to support this game at all, it is completely self-sufficient. They don't need to give them funds or anything. They own OOO, which simply means that profits get siphoned up into Sega, rather than the CEO of OOO, or stockholders, or whoever was the benefactor of profits before OOO was purchased by Sega.

I'd imagine that if SEGA goes

I'd imagine that if SEGA goes under, they'd probably sell OOO to someone like Square-Enix. Square has a mostly good taste in MMOs (bar FFXIV).

Nooo not Square-Enix. I would

Nooo not Square-Enix. I would quit . The failure that was FFXIV was precisely because Square-Enix was directly involved. As sad as it was at the time to have FFXI handled by play online and am ever shrinking list of developers Square-Enix somehow fudged their next mmo 10X worse by assuming direct control.

I Miss Squaresoft

Since you brought them up, I absolutely loved Squaresoft -- but since they became Square-Enix, I haven't really liked any of their games.

EA? Hell no!

If sega bites the dust and sells OOO, maybe EA will buy it.

I'd rather clone myself into oblivion and sell all my (and my and also my) kidneys to save OOO before EA gets its dirty fingers on them.

KH2 was made by Square-Enix, and a few other decent singles, not much in the way of MMOs, though.

I know, such a fun game. I

I know, such a fun game. I dusted off my PS2 a few days ago and played it for a bit. I like being incredibly OP and just blowing through everything in Final Form :)
Unfortunately, you still need a tad bit of skill to completely obliterate everything and I seem to have lost some of that over the years heh.
They're going to make KH3 after they make YET ANOTHER game in the FFXIII universe, but at least this one looks pretty good since it and KH share a (very good) director.
