So right now I have a heavy plate shield, and I was planning to upgrade it to a 5* plate shield some time this week, however, I would like to know which shield is a better shield for general use. Also, would it be better to just get an Ancient Plate Shield for 30 tokens instead of upgrading my current plate shield?
Plate Shields
Volcanic Plate Shield is my favorite shield in my arsenal. I chance-crafted it with a Pierce UV Max so for me it works everywhere! It is a tank when it comes to withstanding trojan hits and with vana too.... The fire resist on it is a lifesaver in certain situations as well. I would definitely recommend it!
Well, since Ccrusader stated his opinion, I'm going to state mine : VPS is my least favorite 5* shield in my arsenal. I have 4 other 5* shields and will always choose another one, especially since we have arsenal stations everywhere.
Why ? Because a specialized shield is always going to perform better than a generic shield (and by better, I mean A LOT better, enough to notice it). VPS feels squishy in constrast. And even against the situation it seems to be tailored for, Vanaduke mace, it does not perform better than other shields.
But hey, specialized shields require you to have at least 3 shields (one for each damage type), and switch the right one for the situation, so it's definitely going to be more expensive than a jack of all trade shield.
i heard APS can take 2 mace hits.
but thats a rare event. (him double mace-hitting)
what? ancient can take more hits than VPS? sounds sketchy
has anyone confirmed this?
APS completely sucks. It can't take even 1 Vana(i didnt have any UV) mace hit. The only thing it outperforms other shields maybe just trojan hits, In all other areas it sucks completely. Once i tried APS vs VPS(shadow low) in Hazard(piercing/shadow/poison) near gloaming wildwoods door, and VPS completely outperformed APS.
Upgrade your current shield, the Ancient set sucks..earn tokens and buy the Ancient set then sell it for 30k.
For general use, Volcanic Plate Shield is better because it have more normal defense, meaning it will perform equally well against everything.
Ironmight is a piercing shield. It's great if you are not a swordsman against piercing enemies (beasts and jellies), which is not "general use".
As for Ancient Plate Shield, i would call it inferior to VPS since it lacks the fire resist VPS has. The damage it can take may be just slightly higher (I don't know for sure) but you aren't going to see the difference. But you are definitely going to see the difference when attacked by fire enemies (especially Vanaduke).
