Prologue
Yes, it was time again. Time for war. Yet, this was no ordinary war. This war was one of Heaven and Hell, Life and Death, the Forces of Good and Evil. This was the kind of war that would go on for eternity, never stopping. This was the kind of war where lives were not lost, but only went to Hell and back to fight. Where no one was given mercy; where no one could hide; where entire populations were wiped out. Yes. This was war between Vog and Skolver.
Before the Clockworks, before the Swarm, before Cradle, were Vog, and Skolver. The two of them were Life and Death, Skolver being the light side, Vog, the dark side. Vog represented the fiery depths of Hell, while Skolver stood for Life, crisp and refreshing. Without the one another, neither could exist. Without life, there was no death. Without death, life was meaningless. The two of them fed off of each other, making sure that their own side of the Universe was intact.
The two of them made Cradle, Skolver creating the crystal clean rivers, the snow-capped mountains, and the forests teeming with life. Vog went below the surface, and created horrible monsters that fed on your fears. Skolver did not allow them to reach the surface, so Vog made a home for them underground, which he called the Clockworks. No one could ever explore the entire Clockworks; Vog made it so that it repeatedly rotated, and made it big enough to house the creatures he had created. He created the Core, whom no one knew its secret except the Great King Tinkinzar, Lord of the Gremlins, whom he made the natives of the Clockworks. The gremlins, which lived in the Great Colony, had skill with machinery, and created machines to guard every corridor and hallway in the Clockworks. He also created fiends, and the undead, which rose from their graves and roamed the Clockworks for eternity. He also created beasts, and created wolvers, who were modeled after himself and Skolver. His specialty, though, was the Swarm. It wasn’t a creature or anything; more like a plague. It dwelled in the deepest corners of the Clockworks, and whoever or whatever came in contact with it was never heard of again.
Skolver strived to create more peaceful things. While the gremlins were natives of the Clockworks, she made others who were native to the surface. She created three different species; the Almirians, Aurorans, and the Novarians, each complete with their own cultures, technology, and secrets. The Aurorans and the Novarians obeyed Skolver, and made her their patron god, while Almire, a bit darker, reached out towards Vog, embracing fire and death.
Life was good, and the three kingdoms lived together in harmony, settling their arguments in peaceful and diplomatic matters. This went on for centuries, the Aurorans advancing in technology, the Novarians, their knowledge of the universe. Only the Almirians remained the same.
This continued to be so, until Vog grew bored. It had been centuries since any real activity, so he thought of something, something that could strike war against the three nations for centuries. And so, he made a plan, codenamed Operation WAR.
Each month, priests from the three nations would travel through the wilderness on a several day journey to the Temple, without any assistance. This was very dangerous. The priests depended on Vog and Skolver to complete their journey. If they had committed wrong, then Vog would make sure they wouldn’t be coming back. If they showed goodwill and kindness, Skolver showed the way. Many a time, priests did not make the journey. At the next gathering, Vog slaughtered the Almirian priests on during the journey, telling Skolver that they had committed many sins. He made sure that only the Novarian and Aurorans made it. There, he whispered to them that the reason that the Almirians did not come was because they were secretly plotting against them, and planned to take over the other 2 kingdoms. Terrified, the two groups of priests returned to their own kingdoms to spread the rumor. Almire was well known for their military combat training, and their dreaded Almirian Crusaders were known to lop off their enemies’ heads and drink the blood from it.
News of this spread throughout the two kingdoms, Almire unaware. The two lords decided to meet, to discuss the news. In the end, they decided to combine their two kingdoms together into the Spiral Empire, and invade Almire.
Skolver saw this, and told the two lords to stop, but it was too late. The next day, the new kingdom stormed Almire, and it fell. And the whole while, no one knew that Vog was watching them, his eyes glinting with amusement.
Skolver knew that Vog was behind this. No one else was possible of such evil. To bring war between the two empires, just for amusement, was pure insanity. Of course, nothing short of Vog.
Skolver accused Vog, and Vog denied. But the evidence was pointing at him. Skolver found the bodies of the Almirian group of priests some months ago. Their heads had been ripped off, something only a savage beast would do, and the symbol of Vog was branded on their foreheads, a black paw print burned into their heads.
Meanwhile, the Almiran kingdom had been defeated, with no mercy. Lord Vanaduke had managed to flee to the mysterious mountains, where the Temple was. Skolver, enraged, decided to curse the Spiral Empire for 100 centuries because of their ignorance.
But Skolver wasn’t done yet. She turned to Vog, and declared war on him. The Spiral Empire was terrified, and decided to take no part, fearing to make another mistake. The creatures under Cradle had to decide which side they would belong. Most went with Vog, for he was their creator, but some were also loyal to Skolver.
And so, war began. The first one was to be nothing compared to this one; and in a way, Operation WAR had never really begun; it was only just beginning.
