Recently, I soloed gloaming wildwoods with two bombs: Fiery Vaporizer and Spine Cone. Gloaming wildwoods is one thing, but I just can't seem to solo a battle arena. I have calibur and blaster, but now it's T2,and I feel like I need a weapon or two for each damage type. I'm already saving up for the snarble barb, but I don' have enough money to craft my Fireburst Brandish. So I still need a shadow and elemental weapon. Any suggestions?
A Bomber's sidearm
Are you planning on being a bomber with a sword backup? or a Swordsmen with bomb support?
The weapons you mentioned crafting are swords, so it looks like you are planning on covering all 3 damage types in swords?
How many Weapon Slots are you going to run? 2, 3, 4?
The main question with swords for me is whether you prefer the Heavy 2 swing swords (DA/GF,Troika line) or medium speed 3 swing swords (Brandish line,Calibur). This is a personal preference question. I would argue that the 3 swingers out DPS 2 swingers, but it really comes down to what you enjoy to use. If you already have a Brandish recipe then you are set, to also craft a Nightblade->Acheron to cover Shadow. I am a big fan of the Brandish line and would highly recommend scoring some CTR UV (and maybe an Elite Sword Focus Module).

What makes you think you need a weapon for each damage type ?
You don't, especially as a side-arm for a beginner. It's going to be costly, and thus delay you from doing higher tier missions, which are more profitable.
Unless you have trouble with one specific family and want a side-arm just for it, it may be a good idea to stick to at most 1 or 2 side-arms, especially if you don't have additional weapon slots.
I'm not very experienced as a full-time bomber (I'm usually hybrid), but Calibur is a very good side-arm sword for bomber : it is normal, so you can use it whenever you want, and the charge attack has a huge knockback, which is very useful to get out of sticky situations. This charge attack can also wreck turrets, which are a blind spot for bombers who don't have a RSS in hand.
If you prefer to have a gun side-arm, blaster is also a very good proposition, especially at 5*, because it gains a small (very useful) directional knockback. Also, normal damage means you can fire to everything without thinking. Contrary to other normal guns, it's very reliable in almost every situation : no huge hard to control knockback (supernova), no slow bullets (that's Neutralizer), no [crappy] dps (Iron Slug).
Edit : Bopp AND Bsod beat me :'(
I'm a bit confused...
The title says Bomber's sidearm and a sidearm is traditionally a Handgun (though in older days was a dagger), but then the OP talked about all of the swords he is working on or wants?
Not really sure what the question is?
I guess the question is what backup weapon should go with bomb? I would think an elemental gun, because turrets are a bomber's biggest problem. When ever I have tried to run as a bomber & brought a backup weapon (usually sword) I ended up just using the bloody sword & wondering why I bothered gearing for bombs... I'm not ragging on bombs they shine vs crowds. I am just too impatient to use them much on normal maps where the monster density is low. Sorry getting sidetracked. Basically we need to know how you plan to do your loadout to give better advise?
Sword, Bomb, Bomb, Bomb
Sword, Gun, Bomb, Bomb
Bomb, Gun, Bomb, Bomb
Bomb, Bomb, Bomb, Bomb
Sword, Sword, Sword, Bomb
???????
*edit* I used to really love my Valiance, but ever since the AP/Sentenza update they are really all I use now (though I opt for Polaris for some maps & Blitz is obvious for Vana). I tend to use the Sentenza on the maps that I would have previously preferred the Val.
i remember when i was choosing a sidearm to compliment the monstrosity of my magnificent bombs.
if you like to keep in tune with the boom, id say supernova or combuster, you'll sure get a kick outta those
but believe it or not, an important sidearm for a bomber is a HEAVY sword.. because it can knockabout at the whim of a CLICK. it can sue find you a way out of sticky situations, esepecially arenas.
but regardiing arenas, a fiery vaporizer should do you very well, and you could easily pass an arena using ONLY that weapon.
i fare thee well , young fellow bomber. if thou needeth any experienced personal assistance, I shall try my best.
in game name: Diamondshreddie
Arena is the best place to spam Polaris..and LD but nobody likes that guy. Get a Faust and Avenger..
@everyone srry for not being specfic. I will rewrite mine here:
So I am a bomber with 3 weapon slots and I need a good sidearm. I use 2 bombs at once. Sice I' in T2,and there are those monster weakness and whatever,I want a weapon or 2 for each damage type(piercing, elemental, etc.) Right now,I wish for u guys to tell me a good elemental and shadow sidearms. They should be 3* too. A gun or a sword works perfectly.
Loadouts:
bomb bomb sword, bomb bomb bomb that didn't work out, bomb bomb gun, and bomb sword gun that I find useful.
I have lots of ce,usually around 1k,and I can, say I' broke with crowns. I ofter find myself throwing up confetti when I'mbored.
Strangely enoough,Ifound myself using a 10 hit sword cutter, and I rely heavily on that speed to get me out of sticky situations. However,I find that extremely annoying and bad against turrets. I' starting to use the snarble barb,a slightly slower weapon, and it has projectiles(I hardly ever use that
So basically:3 weapon slots, sidearm can be sword or gun,but I want an elemental or shadow one.3*. Thats pretty much it
My answer still stand : you'd probably better off with a normal weapon, as you have only one slot for your side-arm.
You should also upgrade all your stuff up to at least 4* before doing more weapons, to be able to go in T3.
Well, anyway since you seem to be focused on those weapons, and you want 3* ones :
- for swords, sealed swords are out since they are elemental/shadow when you upgrade them to 4*. The only ones left are Brandish series. There is only one for shadow, but 3 for elemental. The only difference is the status on the charge attack. Choose whichever status your prefer
- for guns, antigua lines are out since they are elemental/shadow when you upgrade them to 4*. You can either choose alchemer lines, again the only difference for elemental ones is the status, or roarmulus token guns. The shock Polaris is very good against turrets but tend to annoy teammates due to its hard to predict knockback. The Biohazard line have slow bullets and is hard to use in a party. I won't recommend it as a side-arm. It's only good against jellies, but jellies are easy in the first place.
Okay, you've given us lots of information. My next piece of advice is: Even though you're looking at 3-star swords right now, you should be choosing based on which 5-star swords they lead to, because everything ends up at 5-star eventually. Pick your 5-star weapon, and then figure out what 3-star weapon leads to it.
I'm not an expert bomber, but it seems to me that bombers want a sword for escaping from crowds, when things get too tight. The obvious answer is Leviathan Blade. Another idea is Sudaruska/Triglav, because it has big knockback, but it's slow. Fradow is giving you good advice, but I think that you could actually get away with a normal+elemental sword or normal+shadow sword. Even against their weak monster types, they do a nontrivial amount of damage --- about 58% of what they do against neutral monsters. So Divine Avenger and Gran Faust are options, and they have big knockback. I would choose either Leviathan Blade or Divine Avenger.
For guns the logic is a bit different. Normal damage is reliable, but elemental damage is disproportionately useful, because bombs have trouble against turrets. So I'll stick with Valiance or Polaris. Both have good knockback, which can help you or hinder you, depending on how you use it.

Only plan for 5* otherwise you will find yourself wasting time & cr/ce. 3* gear should not be used past heat level 5 unless you are broke.
Thanks for the excellent tips. I wish I was able to give u guise something, but I don't hav anything u want, nlessif u want my monster bones.
I'd totally take that... but srsly? Put them up on the AH... you can make a pretty penny off of those... ;3
I also Suggest A Sudaruska as a Side arm. Its very reliable, and the charge is very bomb like.
Not only am I famous, but I inspire Hipster...ness... Yeah.

I desperately need Monster Bones...but Tsubasa-No-Me is right --- you should sell them for a tidy profit. Cheers.
My IGN is Shotjeer, and I don' even need monster bones as of right now. I don't need crowns either. But if u insist...
LOL,just noticed:I only hav 2. But as I was saying,I don' need it for a pretty long time, ntil I get my vog cub.
How many weapon slots do you use, and what kinds of weapons do you want in them? For example, do you want to carry two bombs and one backup weapon? Do you want the backup to be sword or gun?
For swords, I can't say any more than my sword guide. For guns, consider Valiance (normal damage works equally well on everything, decent knockback) or Polaris (elemental is disproportionately useful against turrets, and decent knockback).
Arenas are tough, when you're starting out. The later waves of the third stage of the level can be nasty. In the big gun puppy wave, try not to aggro all of the gun puppies at once; try to take them out one at a time. In the final wave, learn where the monsters spawn, and kite them accordingly. For example, the gremlin menders always spawn in the northwest and southeast. End the second-to-last wave in the southeast, so that you can kill one mender immediately after it spawns, and kite the rest of the monsters from there.
Edit: Shotjeer beat me.
