I had the same problem
I had the same problem earlier, but I found a solution.
Wait until it gives you the server error message, then hit the log in button once it lights up again. It should work.

You guys need to fix this... and I don't believe for a second that you cannot. There is something software related happening, and you have not fixed it. And I'm not JUST talking about the steam issue, I'm talking about the entire client-based favoritism. Had I found the game through miniclip.com I'd be playing right now. I'd also probably be begging in haven at the age of 12, but that's beside the point. Things like DLC being available and being able to connect shouldn't be like this.
But I'd still rather see a new enemy available for F2Pers than have that fixed. Or even the tortodrone back.

Open up SK through Steam. Log in with steam account: doesnt do anything
Log in with mist crafting account(non steam), it works.

Anyways, the exact reason for the Steam problems is the Team Fortress 2 update released just a few minutes ago. The Steam servers receive heavy strain from the 40,000+ Steam users updating the game at the time.

Long story short, they did "some" server updates, which was only supposed to take only 10 minutes. This always results in everything breaking for most of the day after whatever maintenance, upgrades, or other tinkering. Recall "Valve Time," if you've ever heard of it.
Then they had the bright idea to update TF2 in the same day, short after. Everything dies, and players were also getting kicked from TF2 because the Auth Servers thought that they didn't legitimately own a FTP game. Which is similar to the situation here...
