right now I'm using silent nightblade, ascended calibur, and a flamberge. I was wondering if it is worth it to pursue the cutter line for the vile striker.
Quick question about the cutter line.
Definitely doesn't answer my question.
It is definitely not worth pursuing that Cutter. Yes, Cutters are fun, but they are hard to use safely in Tier 3, and they excel in very few situations (e.g. Vanaduke's mask). Also, as soon as you have multiple swords, there is not really any reason for any of them to be normal damage. As Metagenic suggested, get an elemental sword, so that you have piercing, elemental, and shadow. For more detail, see my sword guide.
It does : not worth it. You already have a normal weapon (calibur), which outperform cutter line. There is no point in having Vile Striker for the poison, since the damage you gain from poison (even in a party) does not offset the damage you loose by having a bad weapon.
Really, you should only use a cutter line weapon because you love the attack pattern and for the fun, not for its performance, which is subpar.
Also, you should consider dropping the calibur for an elemental Brandish, as Metagenic said, because having a normal weapon with 2 specialized weapons is useless : you could have 3 specialized weapons and deal critical damage to ALL families.
Please note: for everything I have seen, Fradow and Meta are severely Predisposed to bashing Normal damage weapons and the like for simply not being good enough. Or whatever. Optimization for damage only, without taking into effect situational hazards.
If you want the uses, strengths and short comings of normal damage and the like, Bopp's thread is good. I'll also give you advice from my experience.
First off, it is VERY fast, and if you had to click for every swing of the blade, you would probably have hand problems by the end of the day. >u< It can get a nice bonus to wolvers, (And look mighty cool) or have a decent chance of getting that same bonus on any creature not immune to poison. Also, keep in mind that it is quite hard to safely use a cutter without a sizable chunk of ASI, Especially if you want to use the charge attack.... which can be useful. Just insanely hard to use ;3
I have some strategy and hard to use against monsters for you...
Monsters:
Jelly cubes are hard to use a cutter on, due to moving at a decent speed, and having a fast attack speed with a spin. Hard to dodge or block with out taking damage. Beware of them.
Mecha Knights are fairly easy to take down, but they should not be attacked in large groups, like you can with other monsters.
Surprisingly, cutters don't have too difficult a time with fiends... getting close is the only problem.
Be wary of thwackers, they can be taken care of, but the groups and shields can make it hard. As well as their fast attack speeds.
ALL other monsters are free game for a cutter, as it will shred them to bits.
If you have any problems with monsters, or feel that you are taking too much damage, please let me know, and I'll give you some stratagies... but right now I'm VERY tired... so I'm going to sleep ^-^

It pretty much only useful for small groups which effectively eliminates it from use in some of the most profitable stratums.
I love my Striker. I can weave around groups, hitting them over and over, cancel-bumping, then moving to a new spot. Also, it absolutely destroys slow enemies: Lumbers, Trojans, etc... (Turret Canceling Goodnes...Just Remember To Block.) I even take my Ascended Calibur off to use this sometimes. (4* Sword with everything else 3*)
Also, did you know completing combos ISN'T always smart with this weapon? Yeah...try not to. You'll have less,"Thrown into the meatgrinder." problems this way.
Plus, it's being buffed to help you nitpickers use this exceptional weapon better.
Know what? I'm taking this into FSC now.
Oh, and lastly, don't charge attack opponents facing you. Not even a single enemy. Just turrets and stuff...

With other swords (Brandishes, piercing swords), you can also weave through groups, hitting them over and over, shield-cancelling and shield-bumping to move the monsters around. Other swords absolutely destroy slow enemies. Other swords cancel turrets. (Doesn't the last combo hit of every sword cancel pretty strongly?)
The difference between DVS/WHB and these other swords is that these other swords do more damage. So, for example, they absolutely destroy slow enemies faster.
DVS was my first 5-star sword, so I still have warm feelings for it. It's more fun than medium-speed swords, although not quite as much fun as slow swords.
@Tsubasa-No-Me I respect you for trying to not stick with popular choices. But on the arsenal forum, people generally want to know what is optimal. If you decide to get at least 2 swords or guns, it is simply not optimal to get a normal one.
Also note that I DO recommend normal weapons when they fit the planned loadout (for example : beginner with 1 sword and 1 gun, I'll advise a normal sword, bomber with 1 side-arm, I'll recommend a normal side-arm too). Or for Vana mask, but it's somewhat of a niche case.
+1 to what Bopp said, as always.
Trust me, if there were elemental, shadow or piercing cutters, I would probably be the first to jump on it. The low dps (because of normal damage) prevents me to do that because i am a perfectionist.
Thanks for clearing that up! ^_^

I'm currently making a Dread Venom Striker to compare with the CIV I have. I really only plan to use the DVS on Vana mask and JK; TBH it does seem like a niche weapon to me (though to be fair I feel that most normal weapons are niche weapons with specific uses).
Cutter's main problem is that you're going to have to use shield bumping and dodging to replace knockback and interrupting enemies. So it's a lot of work.
On the other hand, if you get enough ASI on a a cutter, the delay between a swing and shield cancelling is pretty much 0. In other words, the a cutter with enough ASI can pretty much work for any enemy as long as your shield isn't broken.
One nice thing about Cutters is that since most enemies have a delay between aim and attack, a lot of enemies will end up attacking behind you (because the combo moved you forward). (That's also why you shouldn't charge straight at an enemy and turn off autoaim)
It's more of a generalist weapon for me.

I do respect good normal damage weapons. Like the Leviathan, Cold Iron Vanquisher, Sudaruska (post-buff), Nitronome, Supernova, etc. These weapons might not have optimized damage but they do have amazing aspects: knockback on Levi and Nitro, 3-swing charge on CIV, Sudaruska for that BOOM charge attack. But the Cutter line actually puts you into more situational hazards than any elemental sword (which I recommended).
Get an elemental Brandish instead
