one-shot/swing, charge-only heavy weaps

I believe this sort of thing has been suggested before (though searching returned no results), but now that we have the new charge mechanic in place, I'm interested to see what suggestions people might have for one-shot/swing, or charge-only heavy weapons. Obviously there are still balance issues to address with the dmg output of the existing 'heavies' relative to their faster counterparts--maybe in the coming rebalance?--but that doesn't mean we can't muse a bit as to what a one-swinger/shooter might look like.
Just to get the discussion started: ever since the release of the flourish lines, I've been thinking about the proper companion to the rose sets, the musket--more specifically, I've been thinking about the musket's predecessor, the arquebus (because, let's face it, arquebus is just fun to say):

Arquebus

This generation of firearms had a fairly limited effective range (no rifled barrels yet), but were extremely powerful up-close. In terms of in-game mechanics, one way to look at this might be as an opposite to the polaris: the highest dmg output being right next to the player, and fizzling out over a shorter-than-average range.
Another obvious example of a one-swing/charge-only heavy for swordies would be the classic claymore--'nuff said, yeah?

At any rate, any other ideas for one-swing or charge only weaps? Thoughts on how they might function?

Sounds like a long shot. Not

Sounds like a long shot. Not sure if heavier weapons would be effective. Well at least heavy swords wouldnt.
Or perhaps they would be if they had a short charge time like the catalyzer.

agreed

I don't think heavier heavy swords would immediately work--again, we're all aware of the need for a rebalance to make the risk of using heavies beyond the DA/GF worthwhile--but that's the question: how might they be implemented, and what would they look like?
The parallel with the catalyzer's charge time is a good point.

Ahh!!!

I already have a similar idea somewhere around here!!!

Anyway, what my idea uses is a "half-charge" system, creatively plagiarized from Bastion (that indie game).
This way it doesn't get quite as boring since you actually have multiple degrees of power for your weapon; otherwise you're better off with just bombs.

That being said, this doesn't necessarily have to be limited to heavy weapons, but it'd be an interesting mechanic for a change.

Hm...

Dat Arquebus.

On topic:
I use a Khorovod, and I know the Troika line is already really niche. I personally would probably use an even heavier weapon set if it existed, but I don't know if very many others would adopt it as well.

I think for heavy guns and swords like what you're suggesting, the appropriate balance might actually be to have not very much knockback (in comparison to a Troika-style charge attack, say). I feel like if they knocked back too much, it would take an extremely long time to get through any level. I say this because I'm not expecting these things' areas of effect to be very large, and it can be tough to sort of gather up enemies to make each charge worth the time on existing heavy lines.

Off to class~
I hope what I said makes sense, because I'm kind of rushing >_>

EDIT: Kentard beat me to the Arquebus. Merp.

heavy swords (2 handed)

sounds good

they would be half the swing time than one handed swords, they would do a ton of dmg charged but it would take longer to charge ( 1/2 or more than one handed swords)
