Umm.. I'm a bit confuse about this.. Piercing armor resist pierce, Shadow armor resist shadow, Elemental armor resist elemental. So, Normal armor resist?
What does Normal Defense armor do?
Sorry.. It seems I doesn't get what Xplad was saying just now. Can you tell me a details?
I do it for the fame.
/smiles for the camera.
In case you still don't get it:
Elemental defense-resists Elemental damage
Shadow defense -resists Shadow Damage
Piercing defense -resists Piercing Damage
Normal defense -Connect the dots
Normal Defence resist normal attacks.
Normal attack is one of most common attack that clockwork monsters deal thats why its always helpful to keep normal defense and not only full elemental/piercing/shadow.
You can read about it here:
http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Damage
Also if you will check any monster that you meet in game on Spiral Knights wikipedia you can check what kind of attacks they have. Monster attacks may deal full normal damage, split normal/special (pierce, shadow, elemental) and also they may inflict status (such as schock, fire, freeze, poison, curse).
Asukalan, thanks for your answer but.. Did tier 3 monster deal pure piercing/shadow/elemental damage? So, the normal is just useless in tier 3?
Xplads, Sorry i still doesn't get it! What is the mean by connect the dots?
"Did tier 3 monster deal pure piercing/shadow/elemental damage? So, the normal is just useless in tier 3?"
Lots of monsters still do split normal & specialized damage, so normal defense is still vital in T3. Heck, Vanaduke's mace is full Normal/Fire.
"Xplads, Sorry i still doesn't get it! What is the mean by connect the dots?"
It's following a very simple pattern... All the items follow this format:
X defense - resists X Damage.
Therefore, Normal defense resists Normal damage.
No, normal is usable in all tiers. Even in T3 monsters deal split normal/special damage, for example:
http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Zombie
Zombies, all zombie attacks contain part of normal damage. Same with Slag Guards, even if they are in T3 in FSC they deal pure normal damage:

Even all wolvers deal split normal/pierce damage:

+1 @Xplad I LOL'ed over that one. Carry on. :D
Ok i just got it! Thank you!
@Xplads /sigh.. It is hard to say that normal damage resist normal? =.=
@ Halandin That's not funny >:-(
It's kind of (completely) off-topic (I mean, the question's already been answered here 50 times anyway, so why bother?), but @Asukalan, this is amazing! It's really nice to see you helping people out without being condescending or rude! Keep it up! =D
@Aplauses: Sorry, it was funny, as it did seem rather obvious. Don't worry, I'm not saying that you are the only one who misses obvious stuff or anything... I think I was 12 when I realized that the names of the Winnie-the-Pooh characters "Kanga" and "Roo" together make the type of animal they are, kangaroos. >_>
@Ubernerd
Its new recruits forum, the even the unholy codex of rage do not allow me to use my powers in here.
Also, it makes you cooler when you're just jaunting around in Pure Normal Heavy armor. You'll gain the admiration of many...or at least be as slow as a camel, but Heavy swords don't need speed. Some geniuses rolling ASI UV's because they can't use such a fine piece of weaponry...or at least don't know how to yet.
@Mygmar
Heavy swords don't need speed?
Silly, Heavy Swords NEED speed to be at their functional peak.

Normal Armor resists the ability to make conclusions based on patterns.
